Holy Mount Athos Private 5-Day Hiking Tour From Ouranoupoli

Description
Agion Oros (Holy Mountain), also known as Mount Athos, is located on the easternmost peninsula of Halkidiki in Northern Greece. It is a unique spiritual center dedicated entirely to prayer and worship. An Orthodox monastic state since 1054, has been self-governed since Byzantine times and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1988. It features 20 "sovereign" monasteries, along with sketae, huts, cells, and hermitages. All monasteries follow a coenobitic lifestyle, with shared liturgy, housing, meals and work. Governed by the "Holy Community" under the Ecumenical Patriarch of Constantinople, Mount Athos is accessible only to men, as the “AVATON” rule prohibits entry to women. The towering 2,033-meter peak of Mount Athos offers breathtaking views, while the lush slopes, ancient forests, and flowing waters create an enchanting natural setting. Its monasteries, with castle-like architecture, intricate woodwork, murals and psalmodies, embody centuries of art, history, and devotion.
