Lady Buddha, Marble Mountains, and Am Phu Cave Tour – we were picked up by our guide Lee (Bruce Lee – not his real name) and driver who informed us that this was only a half day tour and that we would be back at the hotel by 2:30pm latest – this was a relief and a nice break from the previous full day tours we had experienced during our stay. We were first taken to visit the Lady Buddha which can be seen across the bay from the beach and Lee guided us around this area with good knowledge and well-spoken English, stopping to pay his respect at the temples along the way. We were then driven for about 20 minutes to visit the Marble Mountains and Caves, stopping at a marble workshop to see how the stones are carved into all shapes and sizes – this did of course include a walk through their shop. From there Lee took us to where we visited a large and very impressive cave then we were taken to the lifts to get to the top of the Marble Mountain where the tour continued. Lee was very attentive and made sure that the tour was at a pace that the whole group could keep up with as there were points where there were steps to climb and descend. After this we were taken to a local noodle shop for a very good traditional lunch before being returned to our hotel. The driver for this trip was also exceptional and knew where to take short cuts when the traffic on the main roads was heavy.
Opportunity to take some great pics of temples and in the caves. Hi our guide was lovely and gave some good tips about where to take pictures and an insight to the Buddhist religion which was really interesting. Definitely worth doing.
Disappointing. Poor guide who provided minimalist information - then left us to guide ourselves. Thank goodness for google. There were two young (noisy) children and the guide's ability to interact with the kids was zero.
It's all kind of new. Seems to have been built as tourist attractions. Said noon on ticket. Picked up after 2:00. Elevator at Marble Mountain closed by the time we got there. Sherlock, our guide, was great.
The steps were my favourite part like a staircase to the sky. Also bonus we saw monkeys. Our guide Queen was positive and friendly
We saw a lot on this city tour, including the Chu Ong Pagoda, a stunning chinese-style structure in 1653 to honour the chinese general Quan Cong. We also saw the Phuc Kien Assembly Hall, famous for the Jinshang Temple dedicated to the goddess of the sea. The city's culture is closely linked to the sea and the safety of the merchant sailors that frequented its shores and so the temple is famous for its history and significance. We thoroughly enjoyed Hoi An, particularly around the market area and the adjoining river area which becomes alive in the night when the lights are on along the river bank. There is a 200-year old ancestral Tan Ky house and an iconic Japanese Covered Bridge which doubles as a temple and considered a major landmark.
Visited Hoi An recently on a private tour and Mr Thao was my guide on a walking tour of Hoi An town. It was amazing and I am like walking on street back to 19th century. The architect was so beautifully maintained. This place is worth a visit and Mr Thao is a nice and reliable guide.
