Itinerary
Drive along while we discover the history of this beautiful seaside Town
Stop and view on of New Zealand's best beaches talk about the history and how James cook called this area the Bay of Plenty
If time allows, we deviate to the Minden Rd. elevated lookout providing spectacular views and photo opportunities of the Bay of Plenty coastline including your own ship far in the distance- stunning
We travel up to the top of Minden Road, which is at an elevation of 300 m, where we capture a fantastic 270 degree view of the Pacific Ocean, Western Bay of Plenty coastline, Mt Maunganui, and of course your ship in the distance (afternoons are best for photos)
We pass by this popular swimming spot for youngsters during the summer, but do not stop. A few kms before this, we drive down Crawford and PoriPori Rd, traversing some picturesque and typical NZ farmland, many of which are in sheep farms and a few that grow the iconic and quite economically important fruit of this region, the Kiwifruit. We stop at one Orchard. You’ll be amazed at how they grow!!
On the route to Hobbiton we stop just past the highest point (1700 feet) of the drive at a fresh natural springs where you may quench your thirst from cool water gushing up from inside the mountain range. We also stop at a lookout of the vast Waikato region where many of the farms that make up the mainstay of New Zealand's economy-dairy farming, are located.
Discover The famous Lord of the Rings movie Set. The most popular singular attraction in the North Island of New Zealand. We transport you to this venue via a pretty customised scenic tour from the Port of Tauranga. Once we are at Hobbiton, we hand you over the trustworthy hands of their onsite guides who will escort you through this iconic destination set on a piece of gorgeous New Zealand farmland. I have never met anyone who hasn’t come away from Hobbiton suitably impressed in, of course, a positive way.
Drive through this beautiful natural park , see the large cascade. Then we will take a short and 20 minute easy walk through New Zealand native forest to another smaller but very photogenic waterfall - serene, gorgeous, mesmerising, you won’t regret.

We had an amazing experience on our Hobbiton tour, thanks to Terrie and Toby! Terrie was an incredibly friendly and knowledgeable guide who made us feel welcome from the moment we stepped on board. He was a safe and smooth driver, kept us entertained with funny jokes, and taught us so much about New Zealand, Matamata, and even local fruits along the way. He was also very accommodating with our last-minute requests for coffee stops and photo opportunities. On the booking side, Toby was fantastic. When only five Hobbiton tickets were left but our group had six people, he was incredibly diligent and helped us secure the last ticket at a similar time slot, making the trip possible for us.
Fantastic - and I'm not a massive Lord of the Rings fan! So well organised and so well informed. Great to see inside the houses and have a drink at the green Dragon. Do it - you won't be disappointed!
I would 100% recommend this tour. Pick-up was at a set location. Easy to find. Another group was added to our bus. I had thought it was just to be my group, but it still worked. The driver was very knowledgeable and kept a commentary going to Hobbiton. He drove us through some beautiful country side and pointed out locations of interest. We were dropped off to join the Hobbiton bus. This was a large bus and we stayed together as a group while doing the Hobbiton site. We then meet up again with our driver at the Cafe. As part of the tour we went to a waterfall, on our way back to the ship. Unfortunately the other group with us decided to take their time on this walk. This made us short on time to get back. The driver did a Fantastic job in getting us through the heavy traffic to make the ship, just in time.
Thank you Wendy, yes I cut it a bit fine trying to squeeze in the NZ native forest walk, so it was more my responsibility , but thank you for bearing with me or your positive review. All the best. Toby
Didn't get to go on the tour because the ship could not dock in Tauranga due to weather. Viator gave us a partial refund but we still lost almost $600.
Toby, our driver and guide, other than at Hobbiton, was great - very personable and knowledgeable. Hobbiton was fabulous! The attention detail was amazing and the landscaping wonderful!
Thank you Rebecca, you and your family were a pleasure to host. Best Regards, Toby
We had a great small group experience with Toby as our guide. There were several scenic stops along the way, a very entertaining experience at Hobbiton, a yummy lunch at a nearby pub and cafe at Toby’s suggestion, and a few quick stops on the way back to the ship. Our party of six considered it a very successful day.
Hi Linda….glad you enjoyed yourself, and the others. You guys were a treat…the dentists correct. I dried out a dozen seashells for your uplift on your next visit to NZ. Regards and all the best, Toby
It was a great trip. Hobbiton is so magical. Toby was excellent - showed us Kiwi fruit farm, stopped for pictures, and much more. Highly recommend this trip
The journeys to and from the port and Hobbiton were great as Grant, the Arrow Tours driver/guide, was interesting and knowledgeable so we learned so much about the Bay of Plenty. The actual Hobbiton tour was also great as our set guide had a great sense of humour as well as in depth knowledge of the films and their production techniques! The set is well preserved and managed and it was just so great to see, touch and drink so many scenes and props. A great day all round and I would definitely recommend Arrow Tours for this excursion.
We had an amazing time with Toby from Arrow Tours as our guide! Hobbiton is a magical place and Toby made the experience even better. My family had a wonderful time and were all glowing afterwards! Strongly recommend this experience!
Toby was a great guide. He was helpful, knowledgeable and entertaining. We had a wonderful experience. Thanks again Toby.
