Great for a half-day in the Sierra Nevada

Cool hike, Julio was a great guide! Was good to go in the morning when it was cool and before the area got crowded.

Fun hike with beautiful views

We had a great time with Marcello and the rest of the hiking group. We had researched and considered doing the hike on our own but wanted a mental break from navigating and figuring things out after a week of travel in Spain, and we are glad we joined this hike. Marcello was easygoing and took good care of the group, even providing hiking sticks, bottled water, and granola bars. The hike was pretty short and easy, though there are some tricky areas to maneuver around the river and in the canyon. Before those sections, he’d talk us through what to expect and how to traverse safely. It was nothing crazy but just having that explained to us instead of figuring it out on our own made the hike more relaxing and enjoyable. I especially enjoyed him showing us the indigenous herbs, like lemon thyme and rosemary. Marcello showed us the scenic viewpoints and took great photos for us. Highly recommend this hike!

Great experience! Highly recommend.

Our family had an amazing time hiking the Canyon of the Monachil Cubs! If you’re looking to get out of the city and experience the incredible natural beauty surrounding Granada, this excursion is absolutely worth it. Our guide, Julio, was fantastic. He was friendly, knowledgeable, and made the entire experience enjoyable from start to finish. The drive to the trailhead was only about 20 minutes from Granada, making it an easy half-day adventure. The hike itself lasted around two hours, and we loved every minute. The terrain was varied enough to keep things interesting, with suspension bridges, rocky paths, and beautiful scenery, but it never felt intimidating. Julio shared interesting information about the trail and the surrounding landmarks, which made the experience even more enjoyable. At the end of the tour, Julio even kindly dropped us off closer to our hotel, which was a thoughtful touch and greatly appreciated. Our entire family—two adults and our children (ages 12 and 15)—absolutely loved this trip. It was one of our favorite experiences in Granada, and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a fun, scenic, and memorable outdoor adventure.

Scenic Hike with Room for Improvement

The Cahorros de Monachil hike offers beautiful scenery and some very enjoyable sections along the river and suspension bridges near Granada. Our guide, Marcello, was extremely kind, helpful, and clearly put a lot of effort into making everyone feel comfortable and safe throughout the tour. That said, the overall pacing was much slower than expected for an experienced and relatively fit group like ours, with many long stops and explanations that were sometimes difficult to follow due to the language barrier. Because of this, we unfortunately could not complete some of the viewpoints and parts of the route originally proposed by our guide. Overall, still a pleasant experience thanks to the stunning landscape and the guide’s warm personality, but the tour organization and pacing could have been improved.

Operator response

Thank you so much for your feedback and for participating in our hike in Los Cahorros de Monachil. We are very happy to know that you enjoyed the beautiful scenery and Marcello's kindness and dedication throughout the experience. We also appreciate your comments about the pace of the hike. Our hikes are planned not as a sporting activity or a fitness challenge, but rather as a relaxing and enjoyable experience, focused on appreciating the landscapes, nature, local details, and the unique atmosphere of the region. For this reason, we generally maintain a relaxed pace, with regular stops to appreciate viewpoints, explain interesting aspects of the surroundings, and ensure that all participants feel comfortable and safe during the activity. We would also like to clarify that the planned distance for the experience—approximately 6 km—was covered according to schedule. Some optional viewpoints or additional sections may vary depending on the group's pace, weather conditions, available time, and the overall dynamics of the activity. That being said, we fully understand that different travelers may have different expectations regarding the pace and intensity of the hikes, and your feedback is very valuable to us as it helps us to continue improving the experience and communication about the style of the tour. Thank you again for your kind words about Marcello and for sharing your experience with future travelers.

Wonderful hike. Awesome tour guide. Marcello. The Canyon

As a hiking tour, there is the opportunity to see the typical village life in the valley, the trees that bear berry fruits, flowers that are in bloom as well the wild rosemary, lemon thyme, lavender reeds etc. The narrow pathways, the series of bridges leading to the canyon ranges from shortest to longest. The sound of the streams and brooks, and the heavy outpour of a big dam alongside another natural waterfalls, is just music to the ears. The cold breeze calms all the senses. There were rock climbers that scaled the canyon. En route were series of very narrow paths that required us to crawl and duck to get trough. My companions were very friendly. The most beautiful part - we had Marcello our tour guide who was one of a kind. He was caring and always ensured we were always safe.

Excellent Hiking Excursion

Our hike with Julio was a highlight of our trip to Spain. It was nice to get out in the countryside, and the views are very picturesque. The hike has a lot of varied terrain—riverside (including crawling and hanging onto handholds in the side of the cliff at times), canyon, hanging bridges, meadow, mountain, and village. The hike is challenging, but not overly brutal. Julio is an excellent photographer and took amazing pictures of the group. Highly recommended for those who like to hike and want something different.
