Itinerary
Guided Village Walk: The Meru tribe have called the lush foothills of Mount Meru home for over 300 years. We provide exclusive access into the daily life of our picturesque community just 20 minutes outside of Arusha. Stroll through fruit groves and bubbling streams as your private local host shares stories about medicinal plants, ancient farming practices, and the traditions passed down through generations. You will also visit a family compound and see how simple biogas systems transform farm waste into clean cooking energy.
Private Bean-to-Cup Coffee Experience: Visit a small family coffee farm planted over 100 years ago, now producing the region's best heirloom Meru Mountain coffee. An artisan guides you through each step of the process... harvesting, roasting over an open fire, grinding, and brewing. Then, enjoy the coffee you make together. The experience is interactive, personal, and unrushed, accompanied by local songs and laughter.
Local Spices, Banana Wine & Farm-to-Table Lunch: Continue with a tasting of traditional spiced drinks and local banana wine, followed by a generous farm-to-table lunch prepared by women from the community. Dishes highlight Meru cuisine, including banana stew, fresh vegetables, and seasonal sides, served in a relaxed village setting.
Hidden Waterfall Swim: Travel to a secluded waterfall tucked within a pristine forest on the slopes of Mount Meru. After 5-minute walk, enjoy time to swim, relax, or simply take in the peaceful surroundings. Unlike other popular waterfalls (like Materuni), this location is quiet and rarely crowded, making it ideal for a refreshing and unhurried stop.
BONUS Scenic Viewpoint Over Arusha & the Savannah: End the day at a panoramic viewpoint overlooking Arusha, the surrounding plains, and, on clear days, Mount Kilimanjaro in the distance. Guests enjoy a forest swing, relax in hammocks , and breathe the healing mountain air before returning to their accommodation.

This was a fantastic way to spend the day! The Meru village was lovely and fascinating-- we loved learning about their agricultural practices and medicinal plants. The coffee ceremony was a real highlight!! A bunch of people from the village came to participate, and the music was so much fun. Spice tasting and lunch were great. There were beautiful handmade crafts, but absolutely no pressure to buy anything. We appreciated the natural beauty of the waterfall and view. But the best part of the experience was the people-- our guides were so warm, welcoming and helpful (especially with "Bibi", our elderly mother with limited mobility)-- Asante sana to Humphrey, Pomela, Praylord, Prosper, and all!
The guides were warm and welcoming, and took very good care of us for the whole day. We got an amazing lunch, and one of the best cups of coffees we have ever had! Our group of three were all very happy with the tour and would absolutely recommend this tour to others! Thank you <3
What a joy to read this, thank you! There is something special about sharing freshly brewed coffee, and hearing that it was one of the best cups you've ever had brings a big smile to our faces. We welcome you back anytime. Asante sana for your kind words and for taking the time to share them!
We had an extra day in Arusha before our safari. We made the right decision when we selected this tour. As described it was an authentic experience. The coffee tour and hidden waterfall were very enjoyable,
It makes us so happy to hear that we could make your extra day in Arusha so special! Thank you for choosing to spend your day with us, and we hope your safari was just as amazing! Karibu sana (welcome again) anytime.
The guides are very friendly and welcoming. They explained throughout the tour about the plants, society, and food/drink. Total time about 5.5 hours. Bring good walking shoes. You will be going up and down hills and if the weather is like we experienced your shoes will get a bit muddy. No sandals! The lunch was fantastic. All local food. We were the only ones on the tour and had 2 guides who were with us the entire time, a driver, and several people joined us to show us coffee roasting, spice tasting etc. Highly recommended for couples or those looking for a *real* experience. It’s not a mass-tourist in-and-out but truly curated by locals.
We’re so grateful for your detailed feedback, Karl! It means the world to us that you appreciated the local food and the deep dive into our plants and society. Thank you for the great tip about the shoes. We love that you felt the "real" experience we aim to share. Safe travels on your journey!
Great day. Really great way to spend the day in Arusha. We learned about the culture and differences in Meru and Masai tribes. Our guides and driver were really friendly and knowledgeable. We had a beautiful walk through the village learning about the plants and the medicinal purposes. We then learned about and participated in coffee picking, roasting making. The village kids joined in and it was a lot of fun! We taste some teas made with local plants and spices and are a fantastic meal, then did a walk to a waterfall (beautiful) and wandered through the village. It was a really lovely day leaning about the local life. Wear good shoes for walking on slick mud/rock surfaces.
What a wonderful review to read, Elizabeth! We are thrilled that you enjoyed learning about the Meru and Maasai cultures, and it’s great to hear the children made your coffee experience even more fun. We appreciate you taking the time to share your beautiful day with us, and we hope the rest of your travels are filled with joy!
Very informative and everyone was so friendly.

This was the perfect experience, engaging all the senses and the mind. It was a day full of fun, engaging, and memorable activities. Prosper and Joel were knowledgeable guides, making the day great. Praylord was a great driver, also giving us some good insight on culture in the area. 10/10 recommend 🌟

The most immersive tour we found in Arusha, abd with a nice guide. With a really complete tasting and a tasty lunch.
Asante sana (thank you), Amelia! It’s wonderful to hear you enjoyed the spice tasting and the lunch. We really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience, and we hope you left with wonderful memories!
This experience is worth the time if you want to learn about local Meru culture. Freddie was a fun and friendly guide who was knowledgeable with culture and history. He led us on a walk through the village, to a local family home, to the river, and then back to the family farm. We brewed coffee while singing and dancing, and then were given a scrumptious lunch! Definitely try the banana beer, swim in the waterfall, and ride the swing above Arusha! We were a group of 8, and while we have been to Arusha before, we have never experienced it like this. If you want to spend the day outside learning about history and culture, book this experience.
Thank you for such a thorough and lovely review, Stephanie! We are so happy that Freddie could make the culture come alive for your group. It’s always exciting to hear that even returning visitors to Arusha find something new and special with us. I agree, the banana beer and the swing over the views are must-dos! Thank you for choosing to spend your day learning with us.
Freddy and Praylord were amazing hosts. We got a taste of the culture, felt relaxed, and enjoyed the scenery. After 24 hours of flying from new york and only having one day in arusha before heading into the Serengeti.... This was definitely time well spent. So much information to absorb and wonderful memories. And one amazing cup of coffee roasted fresh with song and dance.... Truly special.
We are so honored you chose to spend your one day in Arusha with us, Mark! We’re so happy we could send you off into the Serengeti with wonderful memories. Safe travels!
