Hawaiian Salt Farm Tour in Kona

Description
Hawai‘i Island’s only working salt farm, featured on Guy Fieri’s “Guy Hawaiian Style,” is located on a scenic 7-acre oceanfront site in the Hawai‘i Ocean Science & Technology Park (HOST Park)—a community dedicated to ocean innovation. Our salt is hand-harvested by our Chief Salt Maker from deep ocean water drawn from 2,200 feet below the surface. On tour, you’ll learn about the cultural significance of Hawaiian salt (paʻakai), the journey of our ultra-pure water, and our solar-evaporation process. Enjoy a guided salt tasting, with pure, flavored, and smoked varieties. Optional cold deep ocean water foot soaks are available. If you're short on time, visit our retail store—just minutes from the airport. Through our Give Back program, 1% of revenue supports marine debris cleanup and coral restoration. The tour is partially wheelchair accessible—please contact us for details.

Such a fabulous history, science and culinary experience! The guides were knowledgeable, kind and patient. The tasting was delicious. We bought several items that we are still using after arriving home. Our multi-generational group really enjoyed this visit.
This tour exceeded all our expectations. We have driven past this area many times visiting this island and had no idea about all the research and development as well as production of natural products that occurs here. It was so educational and Candee was a wonderful guide. We came away with so much more knowledge and appreciation for what they do at this farm.
This was an interesting tour to learn about how they extract deep ocean seawater and extract the sea salt from it. Our guide was very friendly and knowledgeable. It was cool to see the facilities they use to extract the salt and the different stages the salt goes through before it’s ready to be sold. At the end of the tour we got to sample the various salt types and flavors they offer paired with some small bites of tomato, cucumber, and pineapple we could try the salt on. Every single sample I tried paired with their salts was delicious. I recommend this tour
This a wonderful, informative tour. Our guide was very knowledgeable about the salt and gave us a brief Hawaiian heritage lesson as well. She was delightful and really made the tour interesting. So glad we did it!
Our guide was fabulous! She remembered everyone’s name and was so knowledgeable! Would highly recommend!
Lovely setting. The fruit stand next door is an easy walk. Interesting fruits and beverages as well as animals. The younger of our granddaughters (age 9) decided not to ride, so she and stayed behind and enjoyed coconut water still in the shell and we enjoyed fruit back at the starting point.
Great experience, learned a lot and a fun, different type of tour. Plus a great way to support a local business!
The Kona salt farm is a unique experience and an inspiring journey to hear about. Its 60 min with just the right amount of storytelling, tasting and Q&A. Not to mention its right on the ocean, a beautiful setting.
Relaxing and informative experience. Next time in Kona ill do tue foot soak right off the plane.
Go, if you have couple hours to spare. You will gain a wealth of knowledge about deep sea. Salt tasting is also fun.
