Ricky was great - good knowledge of all the vendors, very polite and good at getting the conversations started.
Ricky was a wonderful guide and went above and beyond to answer questions of all the dishes we tried. We also tried stuff we’d never had tried otherwise. Highly recommended
Ricky, our tour guide, took us through the streets of Hanoi Old Quarter to try different foods at different places. From street vendors and restaurants to a coffee house. Explaining what the Vietnamese names is, what it means/translates to, how to order, how to eat, and often a little bit of information about the vendor/shop history as well as other general information. It was easy going - never felt rushed, and as a solo traveller I joined a shared group with two other parties. It was about 2 to 3 hours in total - I think length does depend on the group. The area was quite busy as I went on a weekend, but I believe during the week it would be a lot quieter if that is your preference. Great introduction to Vietnamese food if you’ve not tried, but also great if you’ve have as you learn more about it.
We had a great time w our tour guide Minh! I’m usually a little wary of food tours because I feel like they often cater to foreign tourists by taking them to “famous” spots, which can be kind of hit or miss. But Minh brought us to some truly off-the-beaten path places and they were all delicious!! The tour company seems to contract local foodies, who bring you to their favorite places, so some of the dishes I tried were not my personal best/favorite, but everything was still really flavorful and tasty (for example, the bun cha we tried was a bit sweeter than I usually like it, but I’d still give it a 9.5/10!!). He was also super funny and showed us a little what it’s like to live as a local in Hanoi, and shared with us a list of all the places we had went along with the names of the dishes, PLUS a list of recommendations for other dishes in hanoi, Hoi an, and other destinations across Vietnam, AND some travel/itinerary advice coordinating with the food recommendations. Truly above and beyond! We had been glad to end our trip with Hanoi since the food here has been the best in Vietnam, but now we’re kind of disappointed we didn’t get this advice earlier, lol. Logistics—ran from 6-9 pm almost exactly, there were 4 guests including us, and the food is included in the price of the tour. He also offered to buy us ponchos when it started sprinkling, but the weather stayed decent. Most of the places he brought us weren’t very crowded and offered AC, so we ate comfortably. Although, other reviews advised us to come hungry, so I was pretty hungry when we started, and I wasn’t hungry by the end but I also wasn’t completely satisfied. I have a pretty big appetite but I’m still a 5’2” asian woman, so people with large appetites like teenagers or athletes might still be hungry lol. Everyone else on the tour seemed pretty full though, so the majority of people should be ok. Lastly, because of the freestyle nature of the tour, the first stop isn’t “fixed”, so Minh met us at our hotel and then we walked to pick up the other group, then to the first stop. But people with mobility issues or things like that might prefer to just meet at/near the first stop so they can take a grab, since it was a bit of a walk (maybe 15-20 minutes total, which isn’t a ton but in hanoi summer feels like forever lol). I think the company should probably communicate that better.
Delicious and interesting street food. Ricky was gentle and informative. He made the introduction to Vietnamese food enjoyable for our whole family.
We had a perfect food tour with an interesting and very tasty variety of typical Vietnamese food. Our tourguide Ricky was really great! He was very helpful, explaining all the food in detail. And it was great to go on this tour with him as we would have never dared to eat at the places he took us. Thanks a lot for this great experience!
Exactly what I was hoping for! Such a good variety of foods, and the right amount so I didn't get too full. Ricky was an excellent guide with a lot of information, very friendly. He took good care of our group and we did not feel rush at all so we can enjoy our time. Would definitely recommend him!
Ricky was so friendly and gave so much information throughout the tour. Plus he knows all of the best local spots AMAZING!
Minh was amazing! We had so much fun & the food was delicious!😍
Our tour was incredible! All of the places we went to were authentic, Hanoi Vietnamese food and we definitely couldn't have found any of the restaurants by ourselves. The food was phenomenal, and our tour guide, Bob (who's Vietnamese name is Meen), catered to all of our needs without a problem. He was incredibly knowledgeable about the area, and even gave us additional recommendations of where to go once the tour concluded. 10/5 stars!
