They are experts at their craft and Daisy was an excellent guide and translator. The whole experience was very fun!
5 out of 5. After just one day of making a knife I am now a professional and created a one of a kind masterpiece that will elevate my cooking to the next level. Daisy and Hang were great hosts that complimented even as I failed to make a simple cut making the handle. Highly recommend.
I would highly recommend this class to any chef, home cook, knife enthusiast, or anyone seeking to experience a deeply rooted aspect of Vietnamese culture. Would also be a great thing for anyone interested in metal/wood work. Our guide, Nick, was very kind and knowledgable, and creates a safe environment. This is my favorite thing we have done in Ha Noi so far!
This was such a cool experience! I would highly recommend this to any chef, home cook, knife enthusiast, or someone interested in exploring a deeply rooted aspect of Vietnamese culture. Would also be a great thing to do if you are interested in wood/metal work in any capacity. Our guide, Nick, was very kind and knowledgable. The atmosphere felt safe and comfortable. This is my favorite thing we have done so far in Ha Noi!
We’re so grateful for your amazing review 🥰 We’re delighted to hear this became your favourite experience in Hanoi 🔥✨ It means a lot that you enjoyed discovering this traditional craft and felt comfortable throughout the workshop. Nick will be very happy to know you appreciated his guidance and support. Thank you so much for your recommendation, and we hope your handmade experience stays with you for a long time 😊
It was about 2.5-hours long. We had the opportunity to not only learn about the history of knife making here in this village, but also actually choose the style of knife we wanted to make. You literally make each part of it! If you wear glasses, I would recommend wearing contacts :) you’ll need to out on protective glasses and they don’t fit over normal everyday glasses. Overall amazing experience!
I just finished making a knife with Damien & Do Thanh Chien and loved every step of this process. Both of them gave great insight & support throughout. Definitely one of the best experiences I’ve had so far in Vietnam.
Very enjoyable experience. The artisan was very helpful and the guide Damien was excellent
This bladesmithing workshop was hands down the best experience I had in Vietnam!!! I was involved in every step of the process: from the design decisions to the forging and finishing, I had the opportunity to learn, participate, and create something that truly felt my own :) Tuyen is incredibly talented and a fantastic teacher. She guided us through each stage with patience and expertise, making the whole experience both educational and enjoyable. Nick was equally amazing, translating and explaining everything clearly, which made it easy to understand not only what we were doing but also why we were doing it, and making the experience funny and accommodating. I left with a beautiful finished blade, but more importantly, I left with an unforgettable experience and a much deeper appreciation for the craft. If you’re considering this workshop, I can’t recommend it highly enough. It was worth every minute and is a highlight of my time in Vietnam.
It was a really great experience not only for us adults but also for our son (just 6 years old). First, we were allowed to see which knife and handle suited us best; all wishes were taken into account, and then we got started. Everything was explained to us, and all of our son's questions were answered. Ms. Tuyen is truly a very loving, considerate, and outstanding master blacksmith. Our guide Nick also took great care of us, explained everything excellently in English, and translated for Ms. Tuyen 🙂.
We’re so grateful for your wonderful review 🥰 We’re delighted to hear that the workshop was a special experience for both you and your son 🔥 It means a lot to know he enjoyed learning, asking questions, and being part of the process. Ms. Tuyen and Nick will be very happy to receive your kind words. Thank you for sharing this lovely memory with us, and we hope your handmade knife always reminds you of this special day 😊
What a cool experience! You learn the art of knife making in a totally hands-on immersive lesson given by the only female blacksmith in the blacksmith village on the outskirts of Hanoi. You get to choose the knife design you want to make, and the blacksmith guides you through all the steps, including making your knife’s handle. My guide, Daisy, was wonderful — fun, enthusiastic, and a joy to talk with. I highly recommend this activity!
