Hamburg hop on / hop off

We had one day in the Hamburg cruise port. Looking at our available time that day, we decided the best way to see a lot of Hamburg was taking this hop-on / hop-off bus. One of the stops along its route was very close to our cruise ship, so it was a no brainer to pick this experience. We saw many Hamburg's highlights and enjoyed listening to the narration (given in 11 different languages) that described the areas where the bus traveled. We were very happy with this experience.

Mostly great

The sites were great. The audio on the bus was difficult to use and hear over the German being played. The stops and the signs are a bit hard to discern. One driver skipped a stop we wanted to get off on.

Not too good

Bad! Asked for an English tour, got ears but the band was never started. We stopped somewhere, 1 passenger stayed behind. There was no response; no announcement that he would leave again. Very poor hostliness. I would choose another airline!

Acceptable

The route is quite comprehensive. There is not much bus traffic, and you have to wait quite a while for one to come. The city is not very beautiful.

Good way to see many...

Good way to see many attractions from the outside. Very reasonably priced for a hop on hop off tour in a European city.

Economical

Save time and money to see entire Hamburg in a day. A lot of stops and audio while enjoying the ride explains sights along the way.

Very good service

Overall a great experience with v Clean buses. The only enhancement I would have appreciated would have been a working APP and clearly labeled bus stops along with time frames. This would have taken some stress from the service

Loud German commentary drowns out ear plugs.

My husband and I had a terrible time on the hop on hop off bus. The loud live German commentary drowned out the English commentary through the ear plugs. We asked if it could be turned down and the driver was so rude with a blunt ‘no!’ He said maybe we should get on another bus so we did but it was the same. Why is there a need for continuous German commentary over the loud speaker when there is a German commentary through the ear plugs? This is the first town that we’ve ever been in that does this. There was certainly a narcissistic attitude with the German drivers, as if other countries didn’t matter. I would strongly urge non-German tourists to avoid the buses. You won’t be able to hear anything anyway so you may as well do a cruise or spend more money to do a private tour.
