Lots of fun. Expect some sections to be bumpy but all sections offering exceptional scenery. Good knowledge from our guide Graham and expert 4 wheel driving.
Thanks Leonard John for taking the time to leave us a great review, we really appreciate it. Great to hear you enjoyed the adventure through the dunes and forest. Some sections can definitely be a little bumpy out there, but the scenery usually makes up for it! I appreciate the kind words about the guiding and driving as well. Thanks again for joining us and we hope to see you back in Pemberton another time. Graeme & Toni
This tour is an absolute must to do when visiting Pemberton. My husband and I joined this very enjoyable 4 wheel drive tour today, seeing the forest, sand dunes and ocean. All along the journey we were provided with a very informative commentary by Graeme who was inclusive of all on board answering our questions with professionalism. The tour was well paced and at no time did we feel rushed. Our group was small and well catered for with a lovely lunch. Thank you Graeme
Hi Jennifer & Ian, Thanks for taking the time to leave such a beautiful review, we are really glad you and your husband came out with us. Great to hear you enjoyed the mix of forest, dunes and ocean, and that the pace of the day felt right. Graeme will appreciate your kind words. Thanks again for joining us and we hope to see you back in Pemberton sometime. Graeme & Toni
An excellent tour of the forest and beach. Graeme was friendly, informative and an outstanding driver over the tricky sand dunes. Lunch was great. I recommend this tour to anyone
Hi John, Thanks for taking the time to leave us a lovely review, we really appreciate it. We’re glad you enjoyed the forest and beach, and that the dunes added a bit to the day. I look forward to sharing with my team. Thanks again for joining us and for recommending us to fellow travellers. Graeme & Toni
Fantastic trip through diverse environments from forest to dunes to sea. Graeme shared his knowledge of the area and was the perfect guide. The trip in the van was good as was the food and the company friendly. Would thoroughly recommend this trip - a great way to see something of the country off the beaten track.
Thanks so much for your review — we’re really glad you joined us. It’s great to hear the adventure lived up to (and hopefully exceeded) your expectations. That mix of forest, dunes and coastline is what makes this part of the world so unique, and we love being able to share it. Thanks again for travelling with us and for your recommendation — we hope to welcome you back to Pemberton another time. Many thanks! Toni & Team
We were a small group, so we were in the smaller vehicle. It was great to see the scenery and views. The information given throughout the trip was very informative and interesting. Lunch was included, a big sandwich roll, fruit and a coffee. Very tasty. There is also a toilet stop for those who need it. The only thing to improve it for me would have been a little portable step, to help me get into, and out of the truck! As I’m quite short in statue! ( I did mention this to Graeme, our guide.) though I did manage with a bit of help from my husband. As others have mentioned the view you get once over the large sand dune is stunning. All in all, it was quite an adventure going off road, riding through forest and on sand dunes.
Hi, Thank you for your great review — we have worked hard over the years tweaking the adventure, based on guest feedback, so really appreciate you taking the time to share your experience. We love that you enjoyed the journey through the forest, dunes and coastline, and that it felt like a true off-road adventure. We’re also pleased the commentary and lunch added to the day — it all helps bring the experience together. Thanks as well for your note about the step — we’ll keep working on that, finding one that works (and does not collapse) on sand has been our greatest challenge. Thanks again for travelling with us and for your feedback— we hope to welcome you back to Pemberton another time. Warm regards, Toni & Team PS Graeme has been playing with step prototypes - your comment has just made him return to this project. :)
What a fantastic tour. Graeme was a superb host with great knowledge and clearly passionate about the environment. We thoroughly enjoyed being with him. Highly recommend.
Thank you for your kind review — we’re so glad you joined us. It’s great to hear you enjoyed the tour and your time with Graeme. His passion for the environment and this part of the world is something we’re very proud of, and it’s always nice to see that come through in the experience. Thanks again for travelling with us and for your recommendation — we hope to welcome you back to Pemberton another time. Many thanks Toni & Team
I did Pemberton Discovery Tour's Beach and Forest Eco Adventure a few days ago with a friend from Canada who was visiting the region. I have done this tour previously on my own in different seasons and once as a private charter with a group of photography friends and was very keen to go again. A wonderful way to show my friend the diverse, rugged and very beautiful landscape that surrounds Pemberton in a safe but exciting way. Graeme, our tour guide and driver has a wealth of knowledge and does an awesome job of sharing his observations over many years in an informative and considered way, answering questions as the tour progressed. Very interesting information on a broad range of topics including history, land use, forestry, geology, botany, bush tucker and wildlife. Graeme goes out of his way to make sure everyone is comfortable, feels safe and gets the most from their experience. The tour is a great mix of quiet contemplation, high exhilaration and fun!! A lovely walk winding past massive old growth Karri Trees, hundreds of years old was extremely thought provoking. The lacy canopy filtered the light and birds flitted about. We saw Spotted Pardalotes, Fantails, Weebills, Scrub Wrens, Golden Whistlers, Rosellas, Purple Crowned Lorikeets and Red-cap Parrots. We also saw emus, kangaroos, a stunning flock of Red-tailed Black Cockatoos and a very handsome goanna. As we entered the Yeagarup sand dunes the landscape changed abruptly. Pure white sand with fascinating ripples and curves that is literally eating the forest. Stark, beautiful and quite fascinating. We climbed the first dune into another world and then pure excitement as Graeme turned the vehicle toward the ocean and navigated the winding 4WD track and rolling dunes, driving with sheer brilliance! So much fun bouncing along, then over a final dune to magnificent views of the Southern Ocean. The beach is windswept and beautiful and feels very remote. We drove to the mouth of the Warren River where we saw a big flock of Crested Terns. The light was perfect and I was able to photograph a few of them having a bath in the river water and then shaking off as they flew back to the main flock along the shoreline. We ate crunchy home grown apples from Graeme and Toni's garden and then drove back through the dunes to a gorgeous picnic spot. Graeme produced a delicious selection of freshly made rolls and a pot of hot gourmet coffee. We were all hungry. The coffee was amazing and so were the rolls!! Truly awesome experience. Myself and my friend are both nature photographers and came away very happy with our images. This tour presents a wonderful range of photographic subjects and is a really lovely way to spend a day! I have been onboard four times now and each time it has been an awesome experience. Absolutely recommend! Once again, huge thankyou to Toni and Graeme!!
Thank you so much for taking the time to share this — and for coming out with us again. It really means a lot when someone returns in different seasons and still finds something new each time. We’re so glad you and your friend enjoyed the mix of forest, dunes and coastline — and what a day for wildlife and photography! It sounds like you timed it perfectly. Graeme will love reading this. He’s very passionate about sharing what he’s learnt over the years, and it’s always nice to hear that comes through. Thanks again for your continued support — we hope to see you return to do it all again in Pemberton. Many thanks Toni
The tour did offer magnificent scenery, including old forest, sand dunes and beaches as advertised. We met Graeme our guide at Crossings Bakery at 9am. The tour left some 20mins later than scheduled, as Graeme met friends he hadnt seen in 20years, and we waited until they got reacquainted. No probs, but we had a long drive that afternoon to visit The Giants Treetop walk then onto Denmark. Graeme then collected a personal friend who joined us for the tour, why the guest couldn't join us at the meeting point as we, the paying guests had to, I'm not sure. More time wasted before tour got underway. No info regarding the history of Pemberton, the forest apart from the trees stressing from lower rainfall or how Pemberton Tours was established was offered. The guest however had Graeme's undivided attention with non stop narration, about personal professional development, possible business ventures and attributes on 4WD. I spotted 2 emus which would have made a great photo, but there was no offer to stop, and the discussion with Graeme n friend continued. Guest with us from overseas may been disappointed on missing a photo opportunity. Shortfall on professionalism. Tip: wear long pants due to ever present Marsh flies.
Hi N&I, Thanks for taking the time to leave a review. We’re really glad you enjoyed the scenery — the karri forest, dunes and coastline are a pretty special part of Western Australia and we feel lucky to spend time in such a special place. Sorry the tour didn’t start quite as smoothly as it should have. On that day we decided (last minute) to add the additional person so we could run the larger vehicle, which gave everyone a bit more room and space for you and the other couple travelling with us. Thanks for pointing out the long clothing - Marsh flies can be around seasonally where the marri trees are flowering, this year we have enjoyed heavy flowering (which the cockatoos enjoy!) Wearing forest coloured clothing certainly helps as they are less attracted to it. We hope you enjoyed discovering this beautiful part of the Southern Forests and the rest of the South West corner of WA.
What a great way to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary! Four wheel driving through the forest and on the beach with an experienced driver and knowledgeable environmentalist was a terrific first time experience for our daughter and granddaughter. It was our third time touring with Pemberton Discovery Tours.
Thanks so much for your lovely review, and what a way to celebrate 50 years — that’s pretty special. It really means a lot to have you back with us for a third tour, and even more so to share it with your daughter and granddaughter. Seeing families enjoy the forest, dunes and coastline together is exactly why we do what we do. We really appreciate your support and hope we see you again in Pemberton.
A must do tour in the south west of Western Australia. We had a fantastic morning out with Graeme from Pemberton Discovery Tours. Booking with Toni was nice and easy. We were picked up at the Crossings Bakery which is a very short walk from the caravan park. The morning included a drive through the Karri Forest where Graeme explained the history of Pemberton and gave a very interesting commentary of the vegetation within the forest and how it changes along the drive to the coast. There was a short walk through the forest where you can really experience the enormity of the trees. The next stop was at the spectacular Yeagarup Dunes where Graeme gave us an explanation of how the dunes originated and how they are moving slowly into the forest. There was a brief stop at the Yeagarup Hut before the final stop on the beach where the Warren River opens into the Southern Ocean. After all of the recent rain the river was in full flow making a spectacular sight.
Thanks so much for your thoughtful review — we’re really glad you enjoyed your morning out with us. It’s great to hear you enjoyed the journey from the karri forest through to the dunes and coastline — it’s a pretty special part of the South West and always changing with the seasons. The Warren River flowing out to the Southern Ocean after good rain really is something else. Thanks again for joining us, and for your kind words about the booking process as well — we really appreciate it.
