Avoid Viator, go on your own!

We booked this tour specifically because it included the Temple of Literature, however we were not taken there and not mentioned by the guide. When we contacted Viator they didn’t comment on why this was excluded and blatantly accused us of asking for a partial refund just to get money back for no reason. They would not even reply to our comment why this temple visit had not been on the trip. They were very difficult to deal with , slightly aggressive and a complete lack of customer service. We ended up visiting the Temple of Literature on our own the next day with an audio guide, probably a lot cheaper and more enjoyable. I absolutely cannot recommend Viator in anyway.

Operator response

I am so sorry to hear that but I followed Viator's booking confirmation as I never published the Temple of Literature in my tour. You can see below is the inclusion part of my tour without temple of literature. A Wonderful Hanoi Experience

This was an excellent tour in every respect. I was doing a S-E Asia cruise by myself. When I saw that the ship would be docked for two nights in Halong Bay, I wanted to see Hanoi, but the ship did not offer a one- day excursion in/ out of Hanoi that appealed to me. I had some ideas of what I wanted to see but no idea of where in Hanoi those sites were, how to get to them, or the amount of time it would all take. My travel agent found Anh ( Cao Thien) , an independent Tour Guide / Operator in Hanoi, to provide me with what I was looking for and I could not have been more satisfied. Anh connected directly with me by email to ascertain what I wanted to see and planned our route and schedule accordingly, to customize and maximize my experience in the time available. He picked me up right at the ship and ensured that I returned to it well in time for sailing, without any stress. He took me to see everything that I wanted to see and more! In addition, he managed to work in two wonderful Vietnamese meals at local establishments that I would never have found on my own, all in an efficient but relaxed and friendly ambiance that made me feel totally comfortable. Anh was ( and is) organized, reliable, friendly, knowledgeable about Vietnamese history and culture and enjoys sharing that knowledge with his customers, whether individuals or groups and I highly recommend him! Good tour if short on time

Mr. Hoang was our guide for the half-day tour. He was a super lovely guy who was very knowledgeable about all things in Hanoi. Brought us around in a car to various temples and to the Ho Chi Minh mausoleum, where we managed to just arrive in time before the queue was closed. Great tour if you’re in town for a short time. Super friendly too, so no hesitation in recommending.

Good cultural tour

The tour was good, but it can be shorter. One may not need a guided tour for the places we visited with a guide. Our guide was fine.

Private City Tour

We booked the half day city tour in Hanoi. Our guide, Anh, was very informative and knowledgeable of the sights we visited. We were also given a choice of sights to visit. I would highly recommend this tour in Hanoi, especially if you only have a short stay in the city. Well worth the money.

Excellent Half day city and evening walking food tour

We had a great one day visit of Hanoi with Anh. He was very quick to respond to my email inquiries and tailor a private tour for us. We had limited time as our vacation was cut short by a week unexpectedly and had to make some changes to our original two day tour with him. He was very accommodating. His english is excellent. We had originally planned a day inside and outside the city. Due to our shortened stay, we decided to focus our tour in Hanoi only. We stared with a half day city tour of the main attractions (including an early morning stop at Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum). Anh arrived promptly at our hotel in the Old Quarter district for 8:30 am and handled the taxi transfers to the main sites while providing us with the historical information we needed. We finished off our morning city tour with lunch and a delicious bowl of Bun Cha and he returned us to our hotel around 1:30. That afternoon we took a few hours on our own to relax and make a quick visit Hoa Lo Prison and a coffee stop along Hoan Kiem Lake located near the Old Quarter. He met up with us again for an evening walking food tour through the old quarter where we made about six food stops. Come hungry and pace yourself with just a taste of everything. The food tour provided us with a good sampling of a variety of speciality dishes was about 3 hours and we finished at Giang 39 for their famous egg coffee. We parted ways and we went up to the Twilight Sky Bar at the top of The Siesta Hotel and Spa for a drink overlooking the lake. Managed to squeeze in the most we could with only a day instead of the three originally planned for Hanoi - so just a taste of Hanoi. :) We would definitely recommend Anh’s service for a private tour. A group tour may be a little less expensive if budget is tight. He does tours outside the city too which would be worth discussing with him. Don’t hesitate.

We had a fantastic tour guide, Nam...

We had a fantastic tour guide, Nam. He was knowledgable, excellent English, friendly and professional with a great personality. Our hotel was located in the Old Quarter, so we opted out of that part of the tour, but the rest of the tour was fascinating, educational and beautiful.

Fantastic Introduction to Hanoi and to Vietnam

Anh was fantastic and very accommodating. We did one half day tour the day we arrived in Vietnam and a full day tour which consisted of a half day city tour plus a half day food tour. Anh was excellent to deal with while booking and made the process so easy. He was very flexible and tailored the tours to suit us even taking us to organise our phone sims and taking us to our dinner reservation. It was such a pleasure to spend time with Anh and to learn about the Vietnamese culture and history and to talk about his way of life. We saw everything we wanted to and it was all at a very comfortable pace and nothing was rushed. Anh made our time in Hanoi extra memorable and we would recommend him to everyone.
