Pom Phet was the most important fortress, protecting the harbour where foreign ships were forced to anchor for inspection and unloading. No foreign ships travelling up the Chao Phraya River before were allowed beyond this point. In 1767, the Burmese were unable to penetrate Ayutthaya from this fort. The city walls were finally breached on the northeast side of the main island at the Maha Chai fortress to be exact. Pom Phet is one of the two remnants of old fortresses and now a public park.
Wat Lokaya Sutha is a massive temple ruin. It is aligned toward an east/west axis. The monastery has been heavily restored, including floor tiles and brick floors throughout. Most of the temple exists only at the basic foundation level. This includes some stubs of pillars and basic walls. At the eastern entrance are the remnants of three vihans. Behind these sermon halls is a large 30 meters high, Late Ayutthaya period, Khmer-style prang. This prang-tower has a hollow entrance on its eastern side. The remains of an ubsot can be seen behind the prang. Only the basic foundation layer has survived, but there are many sema stones and the detritus of Buddha images. A large bell tower stands on the southwestern corner of this ubosot. The highlight of this temple is its enormous reclining Buddha image (37 meters long and 8 meter high), which is located behind the ubosot.
The Ayutthaya Historical Park comprises of the ruins of temples and palaces of the capital of the ancient Ayutthaya Kingdom. The park is located on an island surrounded by three rivers where the old capital used to be. The Ayutthaya Kingdom, which existed from 1351 until 1767 was one of the largest and most prosperous empires of its time. The ruins of many impressive temples and palaces give an impression of the wealth of the ancient Kingdom.
Wat Phra Si Sanphet (Thai: วัดพระศรีสรรเพชญ์; "Temple of the Holy, Splendid Omniscient") was the holiest temple on the site of the old Royal Palace in Thailand's ancient capital of Ayutthaya until the city was completely destroyed by the Burmese in 1767. It was the grandest and most beautiful temple in the capital and it served as a model for Wat Phra Kaew in Bangkok.
Wat Mahathat, “the temple of the Great Relic” was one of the most important temples in the Ayutthaya Kingdom. Located on the historical island the large monastery features a huge central prang, a very large principal viharn and ubosot and a great number of subsidiary chedis and viharns. The upper part of its once massive central prang has collapsed. Today only the base remains. One of the temple’s most photographed objects is the head of a stone Buddha image entwined in the roots of a tree.

Beam was an amazing guide and the bike ride was the perfect length to see all the sights of Ayutthaya. We especially enjoyed trying the local delicacy and preparing our offering to Buddha. Beam even recommended a brilliant place for lunch afterwards. Would highly recommend this tour.
Thank you so much for the wonderful review! We are thrilled to hear that you had such a great time exploring the historic sights of Ayutthaya with us. It’s fantastic that Beam made such an impression—he really takes pride in sharing those local delicacies and the meaningful traditions, like preparing the offering to Buddha. We’re also glad the lunch recommendation hit the mark! We’ll be sure to pass your kind words along to Beam and the rest of the team at our Ayutthaya shop. It was a pleasure having you with us, and we hope to see you again for another ride in the future! Best regards, The Team at ThailandBiking
We did the full day tour it was great. Our guide Min was very kind and explained us lots of interesting information about Buddhism and the history of the city. Thank you very much Min!
We carved out half a day to explore Ayutthaya during our trip to Thailand and wanted to make the most of the short time we had. This bike tour was absolutely perfect to get a full city experience in a tight package. Our guide was very knowledgeable and friendly. She spoke English fluently and was familiar with several other languages. Her insights at each of the stops gave us the background we never would have gotten if we explored ourselves. The stops are well thought out and cover several of the most notable sights in the city, including a stop at a local market we otherwise never would've found. Our ticket purchase included some tasty local treats from the market. The biking route was mostly flat and easy to navigate. Some moments involved riding alongside local traffic which can be a little intimidating, but the guide rides up front while another employee ride behind to keep us safe watch our backs. We couldn't have been happier with our relatively short tour. Afterwards we wished we had planned more time for Ayutthaya, but this was the perfect introduction to such a historical city. We couldn't recommend it enough.
Thank you, Alex, for sharing such a thoughtful review! We’re thrilled you had a great experience exploring Ayutthaya with us and felt safe and well-guided throughout. Wishing you many more enriching travels! ThailandBiking - Operations Team
Great tour of several of the Ayutthaya attractions. Bung was very knowledgeable and provided insights that were meaningful to the experience. The tour time ran much longer than expected (I booked the 3-hour tour which took well over 4 hours). Although I understand they are made to appeal to a broad audience, I would have enjoyed more historical detail, given the significance of the site. The bike was good quality; I felt safe and well-attended to (the cold beverage timing was spot on).
Thank you, Corey, for your thoughtful feedback! We're glad you enjoyed the tour and appreciated Bung’s expertise. We'll consider your suggestion for more historical detail to enhance future experiences. ThailandBiking - Operations Team
Great way to tour the sights. We were able to get around easily with our bikes. Guide was very knowledgeable.
Thank you so much for the 5-star review! We are thrilled to hear that you enjoyed exploring the sights of Ayutthaya on two wheels. Our team takes great pride in our guides' knowledge of the city's history, so we’ll be sure to pass your kind words along to them. We hope to see you on another adventure soon!
The tour was great. Loved cycling around seeing the sights of Ayutthaya. We had two excellent guides who got us around the roads safely. Our main guide was extremely friendly and made us feel very welcome. She took us to various rest stops and let us get drinks and try some foods at her cost without any pressure at all on us to purchase anything. Made my daughter feel special on her birthday. Bikes were good quality and well maintained. Would definitely recommend.
Thank you, Journey821220, for sharing your lovely experience! We're thrilled you enjoyed Ayutthaya and that our guide made your daughter's birthday special. Your recommendation means a lot to us. We hope to see you again! ThailandBiking - Operations Team
The prices are almost the same as in France, and we had booked four bicycles, two for adults, and two for children aged five and nine. When we arrived, the smallest bike was too big for my daughter, so we finally rented three bikes, but the owner, a Dutchman, who has this business, just to do business, he does not care about tourists and customers, asked us to pay the same rate for three bikes as for four. According to him we resonate per person and not by rented bike, and as my daughter climbed behind me We paid almost 5500 baht, which corresponds in euros to 125 €! Not very nice, not a merchant, and the worst part is that he insisted that we pay in cash and absolutely did not want us to pay by credit card. As a matter of principle, we paid by credit card...
Cordialement,
Nice half-day (3.5hr) tour through the inner city tempels. Child Seats available and good quality bikes. Guide takes good care and speaks good english. Despite the nice tour we found it heavily overpriced.
Thank you for your feedback! We’re glad to hear you enjoyed the tour, the quality of the bikes, and our guide’s attentiveness. We strive to provide a memorable and insightful experience through Ayutthaya’s historic sites. We appreciate your input on pricing and will take it into consideration. Our goal is to offer a high-quality experience with knowledgeable guides, well-maintained equipment, and a carefully planned route. That said, we understand that value is subjective, and we truly appreciate your honest perspective. Thanks again for joining us—we hope to see you on another adventure in the future!
Bella was an excellent guide. I felt safe cycling the streets. She took us to the best sights and kept us hydrated in the heat.

The bike tour was surprisingly refreshing, as the light breeze made it cooler than if we had to walk around. I think the best way to visit Ayutthaya should be on a bicycle! The tour guide was also very instructive, both in navigating us on the bicycle ride as well as telling us about the historical facts and cultural-religious narratives concerning the site visits.
Thank you for your wonderful review! We’re so glad to hear that you enjoyed the refreshing breeze while cycling—it’s definitely one of the best ways to explore Ayutthaya comfortably. It’s also great to know that our guide provided both safe navigation and insightful historical and cultural stories. We truly believe that biking allows for a more immersive and enjoyable experience, and we’re happy you felt the same way! Hope to see you on another ride soon!
