Itinerary
Travelers will watch a video and visit the Ananases greenhouses, to understand the entire process from its plantation. The history of Pineapple began in the 19th century, on the Island of São Miguel. The Portuguese discovered the fruit during the colonization of Brazil and brought it to the Azores, being cultivated in a greenhouse and treated as an ornamental plant for cultural experiment and botanical curiosity. Only later did they learn that pineapple was a tasty fruit with strong commercial value. In 1864, the first industrial greenhouse was built, with capacity for 800 plants. The evolution was such that shortly after, São Miguel Island already had 4,300 production greenhouses. At the beginning of the 20th century, Pineapple from the Azores, internationally known, began to be exported to countries such as England, Germany and Russia. After more than a century of commercialization in Europe, Ananás dos Açores was given the Designation of Origin Ananás dos Açores/S in 1996. Miguel was registered

First, the order to go on this adventure was marred by a representative who was not pleasant when trying to find our location. We were tourists unable to speak Portuguese and asked someone familiar with the area to order the tour. Unfortunately, we misunderstood the pickup location, but when trying to get clarification, the tour coordinator, not the guide, hung up on us. I find that not appropriate as a customer service representative should help, not be rude.
Very nice guide and beautiful experiences.
Our tour was great fun, mainly due to Carla who is a fantastic tour guide. Our kids loved her, she was super informative and helpful and we all really enjoyed it.
The Azores are beautiful and our guide Rui was truly great. Very knowledgeable and answered all of our questions. We saw areas that were just out of this world.
This was an excellent 4 hour tour of the NW of St Miguel Island. We were in a party of 8 in a very comfortable and well-driven Mercedes people carrier. Our guide and driver was Carla; she was wonderful and provided ongoing informative and interesting commentary throughout the tour, giving clear insights to the history and development of the Azores and it's people. Her local knowledge was first rate and my partner and I found her to be first rate in every regard. We would definitely recommend her as our first choice if ever we were to return. Thank you Carla.
This booking was an absolute 5 Star with a 10 rating. Carla Met us with a sign showing our name and quickly introduced herself. The beginning of one of the best days. She was native to the Island and had excellent English to tell us about the area as well as giving us a personal experience. Two other couples from the ship were able to join us and her van was more than roomy enough. Seeing the depth of Greens and flowing hillsides just beginning to bloom With Azalia's and also seeing the Hydrangea plants and visiting Canary Lake with some of the birds greeting us and showing off. First impression of the Azores was this in not a One Day Island! Definitely, adding a longer stay on the island and Carla was sure to give us information for future contacts to help us plan the next visit. Carla now feels like family and she treated us as such. Thank you
Good experience, weather didn’t cooperate but the tour operator did her best to get us the best views by changing routes.
Absolutely wonderful half day tour to Sete Cidades! Picked us up from cruise port and returned us promptly. Thoroughly enjoyed it and our tour guide Carla was an absolute gem! I highly recommend the tour and especially Carla!
The pickup process is easy. The driver met us at the right place and the right time with our names displayed. There were 8 people at this tour. We fit into a BMW van. It is better than a big bus with over 30-40 people. It is a more intimate experience
Dennis was a very good guide. He went out of his way to show us what we wanted to see. He is very knowledgeable about the island!
