On a rocky hill that is difficult to access, on the banks of the River Darro, protected by mountains and surrounded by woods, among the oldest quarters in the city, the Alhambra rises up like an imposing castle with reddish tones in its ramparts that prevent the outside world from seeing the delicate beauty they enclose. Originally designed as a military area, the Alhambra became the residence of royalty and of the court of Granada in the middle of the thirteenth century, after the establishment of the Nasrid kingdom and the construction of the first palace, by the founder king Mohammed ibn Yusuf ben Nasr, better known as Alhamar. The fortress became a citadel with high ramparts and defensive towers, which house two main areas: the military area, or Alcazaba, the barracks of the royal guard, and the medina or court city, the location of the famous Nasrid Palaces and the remains of the houses of noblemen and plebeians who lived there.

Admission included30 min

The Generalife is composed of a series of large gardens, where every corner holds a novelty and a pleasant surprise for the eyes, with a minimum of obtrusive buildings.

Admission included30 min

The Alcazaba plainly served a military function. The entrance to the Alcazaba was at the foot of the Tower of Homage . At the base of the tower is a slight slope. A simple L-shaped walkway keeps the main gate from being seen from the outside.

Admission included40 min

The habitual residence of the kings of Granada, their construction began at the beginning of the 14th century. The Nasrid Palaces are a palatial complex formed by three buildings: - The Mexuar is the oldest hall. It was employed for meetings between the ministers of the king and as a courtroom. - Next, we come to the Palace of Comares, which dates back to the era of Yusuf I. This dwelling was erected around the Patio de los Arrayanes (Courtyard of the Myrtles), and its side exits lead to the Sala de los Embajadores (Hall of Ambassadors) and the Sala de la Barca (Hall of the Boat). - The Palace of the Lions, dating back to the era of Muhammed V, is also a royal residence. It is composed of a central courtyard, the Courtyard of the Lions, and halls along each side, the Hall of the Mocarabes, the Hall of the Kings, the Hall of the Two Sisters, the Hall of the Ajimeces, leading on to the mirador Daraxa viewpoint, and the Hall of the Abencerrajes, along with the Harem

A day full of charm and a lot of history at the Alhambra with Carlos Fuente.

Our guide Carlos Fuente was excellent. Knowledgeable, friendly, and with his passion, he conveyed his knowledge about the history of the Alhambra to us. I recommend him. He deserves a 10 and praise.

A must visit when in Granada

A must to visit, take on good shoes and be careful to meet on time if you have booked the visit on time, they are very accurate. Picking up tickets purchased on TripAdvisor was easy with very good help and tips. Calculate good time and bring water. Easy food is available at the Alhambra.

Operator response

Mange tak for dine venlige ord! Tak!

Never again.

I have booked the Alhambra for you today at 10 AM. We were here shortly after 9:00 AM; one should arrive early. After receiving the ticket, we were informed that we can only enter the Nasrid Palace at 6:30 PM. I did not open the email from unknown senders on Sunday. It was not from you. Walking around the Alhambra for 9 hours for 2 people around 70 years old is no picnic. 6:30 PM, I could have gotten that cheaper. We will definitely never book with you again and will not recommend you either.

Operator response

Hallo.

Extra step

The audio guide was difficult to hear and we had to return it outside the gate by 1230. Vendor ticket got us in at appointed time.

Operator response

Hello. You booked tickets and an audio guide. You collected the tickets and, as you mentioned, were able to use them for the visit. However, we had no problems listening to the audio guide (as it works with or without headphones). We don't know what might have happened to you. In any case, we hope you enjoyed your visit to the Alhambra.

Alhambra Tickets - Tutorial with Viator

Very good experience despite some of the other reviews I read. I think those are people who did not read the instructions clearly and did not spend the proper time researching how this type of ticket works so here it is the full explanation: - The Alhambra is a set of monuments all located in the same area but the whole complex is extremely big (3/4 hours to visit everything). - The Nasrid Palaces (Palacios Nazaries) are the key piece you need to see where the coolest stuff is. Because they are somewhat fragile they don't want too many people inside at the same time so they schedule visitors to enter at different times during the day. - Basically you book your voucher online ticket with Viator for a certain hour (let's say 9am), at 9am you go to the ticket office that is registered with Viator (Granavision as of May 2026) at the Alhambra, there someone will give you your physical printed ticket that you scan at the gates to enter and will explain to you the structure and map of the Alhambra but most importantly they will give you your scheduled time to enter the Nasrid Palaces (mine was at 10am). So no matter what at 10am you have to be at the Nasrid Palaces entrance with your ID card (the same you used to book the tickets), this is very important because personnel will check your ID card at every gate of the Alhambra (once you enter the first gate there are other ones) - Before 10am you can still see other sections of the Alhambra (usually the ticket office will tell you which ones are best to see in order for you to be at the Nasrid Palaces on time) - After you get out of the Nasrid palaces you can basically go in an out of the other Alhambra sections whenever you want throughout the day (Generalife, Medina, Alcazaba). - Check your e-mail regularly 24 hours before the day of the visit because if you booked with Viator at 2pm they might send you an e-mail saying that your entrance at the Nasrid Palaces is at 1pm so you need to be at the ticket office at 12:45pm to pick up your tickets and not miss your entrance at the Nasrid palaces. - Of course Viator will try to give you an entrance of the Nasrid Palaces at a time after the one on your voucher.

Operator response

We are extremely grateful for your feedback (and for your comments regarding the Alhambra visit and everything one needs to know to make the most of it). It's true that sometimes the booking voucher isn't read clearly. However, if you do read it carefully, you can have free rein on the day of your visit to focus on what's truly important: the Alhambra. We are delighted that you have such a positive impression of our company and the service we provide, and that you also enjoyed the monument. We hope to see you again soon (we'll be waiting with open arms)!

ABSOLUTELY AVOID

I booked on this linked site With Tripadvisor, a guided tour to see the Alhambra in Granada. They first sent me an acknowledgment of the request and later confirmed the tour. Unfortunately, the day before the visit, they canceled it due to a lack of entries to the site. Despite my long phone call with an assistant who was like a "rubber wall," because I wanted to see the Alhambra since they had confirmed it to me, there was no way to receive assistance, and probably to end the call, they told me they would make me talk to a manager who clearly never called me back. I wanted to speak with a manager who clearly never called me back. The next morning, I tried again, but nothing; even the second assistant told me that I needed to book in advance to see it. Despite my complaints, I ended up not seeing the Alhambra, the site for which I came to visit Andalusia. They did issue a refund. Flee from this site, as it is not serious at all, and several people I met during this vacation told me they had the same problems with different destinations. It's better to spend a little more and take tours with the official sites.

Overexpensive price for a supposed "guided tour"

It's a scam. An entry to the Alhambra costs 22€. They sell you this ticket for 50€ for a supposed "guided tour" which is a pre-registered audio. It is absolutly not worth the almost 30€ extra. The alhambra remains gorgeous.

Operator response

Hello. We're glad to hear you enjoyed the Alhambra, but you didn't book a guided tour; you booked tickets plus an audio guide (the price of this second option is significantly lower than the first). We regret that you assumed, upon arriving at the meeting point, that you would be accompanied by a guide. That wasn't your booking. Regards.
