Our experience was with a car and driver, and it was great. The driver was very personable and a pleasure to spend time with. The Batu caves were all that was promised, and the weather was good to us. The Genting highlands were a bit clouded in, but the cable car ride was pretty good. This part of the trip would suit families with kids into themed activities, or those who liked a gamble, but for us (elderly-ish couple) it was a bit ho-hum. A nice day out though.
