Chocolate, waffles, fries, beer... Belgian food is a real treat! Enjoy the delicious tastes of Belgium on this free food tour, where an expert local guide will take you around Ghent to try local specialties and tell you the story behind their taste. The numerous samples are included and the tour is tip-based, so don't forget to bring cash to reward the guide if you enjoyed it! As for beer, you will either receive a voucher for a free beer at GRUUT Brewery, which you can enjoy at your leisure after the tour, or we will take you to the brewery itself. Itinerary

10 min

We meet at Hostel Upperlink for a short introduction of our food culture, followed by a taste of the best fries in town at Frituur Tartaar. Once our guide tells you the story of the fries, you'll never call them French fries again!

10 min

Next stop is Ooost, the regional center for local products, to tell you about the famous Ganda ham and give you a taste of a delicious local candy that we try to keep hidden from the rest of the world.

10 min

Next on the menu is a chocolate treat, handmade in Gent. Our guide will tell you the story of chocolate and offer you a praline in the shape of Jan van Eyck's holy lamb.

10 min

Next on the menu are waffles, a popular treat since medieval times. We'll tell you the origins of the food and offer you a taste.

10 min

We end the tour with a ticket for a free glass of the famous local Gruut beer, which you can enjoy straight after the tour when the brewery opens in the afternoon.

Enjoyment and history

It was a wonderful excursion with six stops. There we learned a lot about local history and Belgian quirks. Spoiled at every stop with culinary delicacies. A big thank you to Jerke our guide.

Just okay

Yes we did get to taste local foods but I didn’t feel it was organized very well. It was just okay not what I had hoped it would be.

Great tour, great tastes

The tour itself was great, Sophia was a wonderful guide. It doesn't seem like booking through the legends website actually registers you for the tour. The last couple we've been on we weren't on the list of people who registered even though we received confirmation emails.

Stories behind Belgian food

Very interesting tour with possibility to test some Belgian food and sweets while walking around Gent's historical centre. Our guide Sophia told a lot of stories behind of each of it. At the end of tour you will get recommended places to eat or drink a really good Belgian beer.

A Great Taste of Ghent!

This tour was 100% worth it for the price! There were only four people on our tour, which might have been why but the portion of fries was so big we couldn’t finish it! Everything else was as expected, two pieces of chocolate, a candy, a quarter of a waffle, a little stew, a cube of meat with mustard, and a small glass of beer. For the price we paid this tour was definitely worth it! Our guide Hans was also very informative, he gave us a few quick points of history about the city as we walked, and also had a very long talk with my friend who was interested in the churches of the city. The tour definitely doesn’t have a history focus but you do get the sparknotes. I would highly recommend to anyone who wants a small taste of Belgian cuisine!
