Gastro and History Jewels Experience in Split

Description
Treat yourself the way Roman emperors did, with amazing dishes served at their elaborate feasts. Join our Food and History tour and where we take you to three different places within a 1700-year old imperial palace to taste the most exquisite local food. Explore the palace of Diocletian and pair each new place you otherwise might've missed with a unique Dalmatian flavor! We start our adventure with a short walk through the center of the palace, on our way to a restaurant known for its handmade makaruni. This delicacy pairs all too well with the local wines of southern Croatia. You will also be presented with the Dalmatian plate of carefully selected prosciutto and cheese, followed up by the authentic UNESCO-recognized soparnik pie. Did you know that the Mediterranean diet has been part of the UNESCO heritage list since 2013? Vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free and nut-free options are also available.

“Ted” was amazing!! He was so knowledgeable about the history of Split and kept it very interesting. Our first stop served a small plate of meats and cheeses, served with bread and wine. Delicious. Our second stop was filled with so many delicious dishes and the locals were wonderful. While I did indicate we had a vegetarian in our group, and validated with Ted, there seemed to be a disconnect with the two restaurants who were unaware of the situation leaving them to scramble to provide for that person. Truly, the restaurants want to look prepared but there’s definitely a breakdown in communication somewhere.
Lucas was a sensational tour guide. He spoke very clearly for my wife who is hard of hearing. His pace was excellent my wife was in scooter and I found the tour very accessible with just a couple steps for bathrooms. The food was outstanding especially squid ink seafood risotto with octopus. Lived Split highly recommended
Memorable…I signed up as a vegan taking a food tour based on the online description, which include specialty diets, including gluten-free, and vegan. The guide didn’t know I was vegan, and the restaurants were not prepared. The worst experience of my life, and I think I am due a refund. I paid good money for a terrible experience. Oh, and the tour guide left us at the restaurant so he could go look for something he lost.
Excellent evening (we did the 5pm tour) and Ivan our guide was very knowledgable and informative. This was more than an ‘old city’ tour, and the gastronomic experiences along the way were excellent, especially the Adriatic fish and meat platters at Muma’s Food and Wine and the traditional tuna and monkfish dishes at Skalinada Seafood & Steak.
Ivan was great. He worked with us on our very tight timeline to ensure we saw as much as possible and ate as much as possible. Great experience and would highly recommend Ivan!
Ivana was wonderful! She gave us a history lesson on Split as she walked us around the city center, and took us to some great places to experience Croatian food! We enjoyed the tour very much!
Jelena is such a fun and informative guide! My wife and I had a great time exploring Split with her. We highly recommend her for a private tour.
Dear Michael, We're thrilled to hear you two had such a lovely time on our gastro tour, and that you enjoyed exploring our wonderful city. Kind regards Splitlicious team

Dear Kathy, we're so happy to hear you had a lovely time exploring our wonderful city of Split! Kind regards from everyone at Splitlicious
We had such a fun day exploring Split with our wonderful guide Jelena. We loved walking and eating our way through this charming city. We brought our 4 children ages 12-22 and everyone loved this tour. We all quickly became friends with our guide and truly enjoyed our day with her. Would highly recommend! Come hungry, there is so much delicious food!!!
Dear Becky, thank you so much for sharing your impressions with us! We're always happy to share our beautiful city with those who wish to learn more - and, of course, to eat their way through the place! :) Kind regards Splitlicious team
Jelena was a very enthusiastic and knowledgeable guide in Split at the Diocletian castle. It is clear she enjoys telling stories about history and she knows lots of people in the shops and restaurants. I would 100% recommend her. It is also notable that this is a private tour although not advertised that way. She can accommodate start time changes and customize the tour. Viator should reflect this in the website listing.
