Great introduction to Sri Lankan cooking, we enjoyed the visit to the vegetable and spice market, the food was probably the best we ate in Sri Lanka
Wonderful experience with Machu. Went to Dutch markets to select foods , then cooked a feast. She tailored the food to our needs and we felt like honoured guests in her lovely home. Very highly recommended.
Wonderful experience. It has been instructive, fun, authentic, and with an unbeatable ending: sharing an excellent meal in which you were able to participate in the preparation. I recommend it whether you like cooking or have no experience.
What an incredible experience! Galle Cooking Class One was honestly one of the absolute highlights of our Sri Lanka trip. The whole experience felt authentic, relaxed and genuinely welcoming from start to finish. We learned so much about Sri Lankan cooking, spices and local culture, while also eating some of the best food we’ve had on the trip. Safe to say we now think we’re professional curry queens 😆 The hosts were kind, patient and lovely, and made the entire day feel personal and authentic rather than touristy. Madu welcomed us into her home, cooking with her family was an incredible experience, for those few hours you have an insight into the Sri Lankan culture surrounding their food. Everything was beautifully organised, hands-on and fun, even for those of us whose usual cooking style is “add wine and hope for the best” If you’re visiting Galle, don’t miss this experience. It’s the perfect mix of food, culture, laughter and genuine connection. We left full, happy and already talking about trying to recreate the dishes at home.
I couldn’t reccomend this cooking course any more. We went shopping for fresh, local produce and then were invited into their house for a cookery course. I actually have left this course feeling like I’ve learnt something which was important for me.
We had a great time! The class took place at Madhu's home with assistance from her family. It was the highlight of the class to have it take place in an authentic Sri Lankan home which was so lovely. The food was amazing and we learned so much.
Amazing experience…we loved every aspect from going to the market with Madhu and choosing the vegetables for our curries and learning so much about the produce. The cooking was so fun and very informative- especially learning more about the spices. Totally recommend this tour for all ages
This experience was one of the best highlights for our trip! Madhu was fantastic and taught us so much from shopping for the produce to introducing us to incredible curries. We had so much fun and enjoyed cooking in a home kitchen together and learning about the spices and traditions.
Was greeted by Mahdu and pick up from my hotel, we then went to the market and she explained the various vegetables, some of which I’d never seen before! I got to choose five vegetables to cook as well as either chicken or fish. We then went to her home and started the cooking class. We cooked so many wonderful dishes. Mahdu explained everything in such detail, from start to finish. The food was honestly the best I’ve had in the time I’ve been in Sri Lanka. Would recommend to anyone, I went solo and it was just fabulous!
The cooking class started off with a pick up at our hotel. First we went to the markets where Madhu explained all about local vegetables and ingredients. We got to pick the vegetables for our dishes ourselves and continued to pick up some fresh fish for a fish curry from another place. After a quick ride to the location of the authentic traditional kitchen, we started our class. We got to see a bunch of traditional preperation methods, learned about basics of Sri Lankan cuisine and were taught how to prepare the food we chose at the markets. The result was a delicious dinner. Would highly recommend this experience to anyone interested in cooking and/or eating Sri Lankan food.
