It is an ancient town with more than 2000 years of history, in fact, it was first founded by the King Tusi as the capital of Youyang County in the year of 202 BC, during the West Han Dynasty. In 1997 the town changed its name in Furong (it means Hibiscus in Chinese phonetic alphabet) after that a Chinese movie titled “Hibiscus town” (it won the Golden Award in 1987 as best Chinese movie) was recorded here in 1986, and that’s made the town nationwide famous in a short time. It tells the story about the life and travails of a young woman who lives through the turmoil of the Cultural Revolution.
After the Furong old town, we will need 1.5hrs driving to the Phoenix Ancient Town and we can have a later lunch or dinner here and visit the old town and streets or do the Tuojiang river cruise and enjoy the night view here then we need to back to Zhangjiajie before 20:30pm or we can drop off you at Fenghuang and Furong old town.

The place is very nice!! The guide (Lavender) accompanies you through everything, buys tickets, etc. He always proposes whether we want to go to the bathroom or go for coffee/tea somewhere. He asked us that we wanted to have lunch and we asked him for some local food restaurant and he took us to a very good one. The tour itself is a bit expensive, but it is worth going there.
I had an amazing time. Furong during the day and Fenghuang at night. The views were spectacular and my guide Chris was the best! I highly recommend.
Dear traveler, Thanks for your time and review. Best regards Andy
