Full-Day Trip to Meteora from Thessaloniki

Description
There are few landscapes that excite the travelers as much as a visit to the enchanting Meteora. The gigantic rocks with the breathtaking volume and height, as they sharply arise in the edge of a big flatland, interrupt the smooth landscape like they were unreal, form part of an impressive geological phenomenon that you can’t miss the chance to observe closely. Moreover, the human intervention in this eerie scenery is astonishing: Monasteries built in the highest point of the rocks, seem to hover between earth and sky, between human and divine element. In 1989, Meteora was added in the list of the World Heritage of UNESCO.

Itinerary
We reach Meteora at around 12:30p.m; this fascinating complex of huge steep rocks of pennant, arising close to the first elevations of the longest sierra in Greece, Pindos (the “spine” of Greece). We visit two of the six operating Holy Monasteries depending on the schedule of each one. During our visits to the monasteries we make a short stop to admire the stunning panoramic view of the Holy Monasteries from up high and capture the mystique of the landscape. The wild unapproachable area with the sandstones of more than 65 millions years old is majestic and at the same time unearthly and divine as until today their origin cannot be explained. Next, we enjoy our greek traditional lunch break in Kastraki, at Kalampaka area, against the view of the astonishing Meteora. We depart to Thessaloniki at around 15:30p.m and we have a last stop for 20΄ for coffee and rest. We are back at about 19:00p.m, making the same stops where we started from.

Excellent experience! Everything exactly as expected and was clearly explained on the website. There was enough time to visit each monastery, to look around, and to take pictures of the extraordinary landscape. We stopped at a restaurant stop on the way there - and on the way back - with bathrooms, bakery, coffee and souvenirs. Prices and quality was good. Lunch spot was also very good. Prices a bit higher as expected in a touristic pla e, but quality was high and staff was friendly and efficient. Overall an excellent experience if you only have 1 day to visit meteora. The guide was friendly and informative. Always very clear in pickup times and about what to expect. And some extra tips.
We did the Meteora day trip, and à Thessaloniki Food walking tour with Ammon Express. Both tours were well-organised, expertly guided, and great value for money. Cee-Cee was the Meteora guide, she was efficient, friendly, knowledgeable, and on top of every detail. The coach was comfortable, and the itinerary was perfect. The guide for our Food Walking Tour, I think it was Adrianna, was also very good. She was knowledgeable and friendly, and the tour was very enjoyable. We would have no hesitation in recommending these Ammon Express tours if you’re visiting Thessaloniki.
A very well organised and run day trip to Meteora, with a lovely and informative guide (Eleni). We had a great day and highly recommend.
We wanted to go to Meteora for a while. Booked this trip in plenty of time to avoid any disappointment. We were met on time by Eleni and travelled in a comfortable air conditioned coach. Stop off half way for a comfort break and refreshments. Whilst travelling Eleni pointed out things of interest. Arriving at Meteora it was more breathtaking than the pictures could possibly capture. We had plenty of time and opportunity to take photos. We went for lunch in a fantastic panoramic restaurant where the food was slightly more expensive than Thessaloniki but was of a good quality. Stop off half way again on the way back into Thessaloniki for a comfort break. It was a long day but well worth it and I would recommend this trip as a must if you’re coming to Thessaloniki.
This tour was absolutely amazing and had everything you could want – stunning monasteries, breathtaking views, and a really well-planned itinerary. Cici was a fantastic guide, sharing lots of interesting information in a friendly and engaging way. Although the tour lasts over 10 hours, the time flew by because there was always something incredible to see. I'd definitely recommend it!
Incredible views and a comfortable bus! The mountains and rock formations were unlike anything I have ever seen!
A long day, but absolutely worth it to experience the incredible monasteries of Meteora. We visited two monasteries and stopped at a beautiful viewpoint overlooking the others — a highlight of the day. There was one restroom break on the way to Meteora and another on the return, and the monasteries themselves also have facilities, which made the journey comfortable. The time allocated at each monastery felt adequate, and we never felt rushed while exploring. Our guide was informative and approachable, adding helpful context throughout the day without overwhelming the experience. Lunch was arranged at a specific restaurant that isn’t near any alternatives, so there are no other dining options. The food was decent, fairly priced, and served quickly — we were able to finish within about an hour. Overall, it’s a long day, but the sights of Meteora are spectacular and absolutely worth the trip. Highly recommend.
The tour itself was okay overall, but it was ruined at the end. Instead of stopping for lunch in the city, as stated in the tour description, we stopped in the middle of nowhere with only two restaurants to choose from, and the guide was clearly steering people toward one of them. As our break was coming to an end, it started pouring rain. Although the driver was inside the bus, he wouldn’t let us in and told us to wait outside by the road. To make matters worse, the guide herself came back late.
Wonderful experience no one should miss in Thessaloniki . Wish there were more than two monasteries to visit. The lunch was very delicious at the Greek taverna .
Boarded the bus on time. Our tour guide, Elena (?) had a Marissa Tomei look going on. No suspicious minds there. She was knowledgeable, but didn't ramble on non-stop. She was friendly to everyone. The bus took about 3.5 each with with 1 stop for a break. We saw 2 Monesteries which were great to see. No pictures inside (sucks) It's amazing how they built them in the 1400s atop mammoth cliffs. We stopped for lunch at a nearby restaurant. Then headed back to Thessaloniki. Very worthwhile for a day trip
