One of the most iconic features of Kiyomizu-dera is its wooden stage, which juts out over the hillside, offering panoramic views of the cherry and maple trees below, as well as the city of Kyoto. The stage is supported by hundreds of wooden pillars, constructed without the use of nails—a testament to traditional Japanese craftsmanship. The temple complex also includes the Jishu Shrine, dedicated to the deity of love and matchmaking. Visitors can try to walk between two stones with their eyes closed—if successful, it is said they will find true love. Kiyomizu-dera is a UNESCO World Heritage site and is especially popular during the cherry blossom and autumn foliage seasons. The temple's architecture, natural surroundings, and cultural significance make it a must-visit destination in Japan.
Explore Kyoto’s timeless beauty by strolling through Ninenzaka and Sannenzaka, two historic lanes leading to the iconic Yasaka Pagoda. These stone-paved streets, lined with traditional wooden shops and teahouses, offer a glimpse into Japan's Edo period. Capture the stunning view of the five-story Yasaka Pagoda towering above, especially enchanting during cherry blossom season or at sunset. Whether shopping for Kyoto crafts, enjoying local delicacies, or simply soaking in the serene atmosphere, a visit to Ninenzaka, Sannenzaka, and Yasaka Pagoda is a journey into the heart of Kyoto's rich cultural heritage.
Kinkaku-ji, or the Golden Pavilion, is one of Kyoto's most iconic landmarks. This Zen Buddhist temple is famous for its stunning, gold-leaf-covered exterior, which reflects beautifully in the surrounding pond. Originally built as a retirement villa for shogun Ashikaga Yoshimitsu in the 14th century, it was later converted into a temple. The serene gardens surrounding Kinkaku-ji are meticulously designed, with pathways leading to tranquil spots offering perfect views of the temple and its reflection. Kinkaku-ji is a UNESCO World Heritage site and a must-visit for anyone exploring the cultural treasures of Kyoto.
Discover the enchanting Arashiyama Bamboo Grove, a serene escape in Kyoto where towering bamboo stalks create a mystical, otherworldly atmosphere. Just a short walk away, cross the iconic Togetsukyo Bridge, which spans the Katsura River and offers breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains, especially vibrant in spring and autumn. Whether you’re strolling through the bamboo forest, renting a traditional rickshaw, or enjoying the riverside scenery, Arashiyama is a must-visit destination that blends natural beauty with cultural heritage. Perfect for photographers, nature lovers, and anyone seeking a tranquil retreat in Kyoto's lush landscapes.
Step into a world of color and tradition at the Kimono Forest in Arashiyama, Kyoto. This stunning outdoor art installation features over 600 cylindrical pillars wrapped in vibrant kimono fabrics, beautifully illuminated after dark. Located near the Randen Arashiyama Station, the Kimono Forest offers a unique blend of modern art and traditional Japanese culture. Each pillar showcases intricate patterns inspired by Kyoto’s rich textile heritage, creating a mesmerizing walkway that feels like stepping through a living kimono. Whether day or night, the Kimono Forest provides a picturesque and enchanting experience, perfect for capturing unforgettable memories in Kyoto.
A landmark in Arashiyama, Kyoto offers a captivating blend of natural beauty and cultural heritage. Spanning the Katsura River, this iconic wooden bridge is surrounded by lush bamboo groves, vibrant cherry blossoms in spring, and fiery autumn foliage, making it a picturesque destination year-round. As you stroll across the bridge, the serene waters below reflect the surrounding.
Explore the spiritual wonder of Fushimi Inari Shrine, Kyoto’s most iconic Shinto shrine, renowned for its thousands of vibrant red torii gates that wind through the sacred Mount Inari. This mystical pathway leads visitors through serene forests, offering stunning views and a deep connection to Japan’s ancient traditions. Dedicated to Inari, the deity of rice and prosperity, the shrine is dotted with fox statues, believed to be Inari’s messengers. Our tour in Kyoto was an unforgettable experience, thanks to our wonderful guide Christine. She was knowledgeable, engaging, and passionate about sharing the history and culture of Kyoto. She tailored the tour to our interests, answered all of our questions, and made every stop feel special. Her warm personality and attention to detail made the day enjoyable from start to finish. I would highly recommend her to anyone visiting Kyoto and looking for an authentic, memorable experience.
Our private Kyoto tour with Yujiro (Ben) was one of the absolute highlights of our trip to Japan. His knowledge of Kyoto, Japanese history, culture, and traditions is incredible, and he brought every site to life with stories and insights we never would have discovered on our own. Communication was great. Before the tour, Yujiro reached out to learn about our interests and the places we wanted to visit. He thoughtfully customized the itinerary, accommodated our requests, and suggested additional locations that turned out to be some of our favorite stops of the day. Not only is he an exceptional guide, but he is also a fantastic person. He was so engaging and we had such great conversations. We genuinely enjoyed spending the day with him. His recommendation for lunch was amazing. It was the best sushi we have ever eaten. Yujiro went above and beyond throughout the entire day. He even extended the tour to accommodate our dinner reservations so he could bri g us back to our hotel. It was a small additional fee, but completely worth it for a stress-free evening. On the drive back, he stopped at a local car meet-up location because our son is a huge car enthusiast and wanted to see if there were any cool cars around. That level of thoughtfulness and personal attention made the experience even more special. As an added bonus, Yujiro is an amazing photographer and knows all the best spots for beautiful photos throughout Kyoto. We came away with incredible memories and pictures that we will treasure for years. If you're visiting Kyoto and want a truly personalized, informative, and unforgettable experience, book a tour with Yujiro. We would absolutely tour with him again on a future trip to Japan and cannot recommend him highly enough.
The sites we saw were wonderful. The car our driver was driving had no air conditioning and the day was hot and miserable. We asked him if it was safe to leave things in the car He said it was but then we discovered that one of the doors did not lock at all. He returned us to our hotel two hours prior to the scheduled end of the day. When we asked about a stop we were looking forward to very much, he said that stop was not on our itinerary. When I showed him the material we received from the company, he said he was told it wasn’t included by his company. When he called his company, they told him to take us there. He made a fuss about how like it would take to go and return. We gave up and just went back to the hotel. He ruined what could have been a much better experience. This is not someone guests should ever have to deal with. I am uncertain that we will use Viator again because of him
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We are sorry that your experience did not meet your expectations. We would, however, like to clarify a few points regarding your tour. Our guide successfully brought you to all destinations included in the itinerary provided for your booking. The additional stop you mentioned, Kimono Forest in Arashiyama, was discussed during the tour, and after being informed of the additional travel time required to return there, you indicated that you were comfortable proceeding without revisiting the location. We understand there was confusion regarding the itinerary information, and our guide contacted our operations team immediately to verify the details and accommodate your request. Once confirmation was received, the option to visit the stop was available; however, the decision was ultimately made not to return there. Regarding the vehicle concerns, we sincerely apologize for any discomfort caused during the day. We take all vehicle maintenance and guest safety matters seriously and will review your comments internally. Our guides work hard to provide professional and enjoyable experiences, and we believe there may have been some misunderstanding during the course of the tour. Nevertheless, we appreciate your feedback, as it helps us continue improving our services.
We only had one day to experience Kyoto and were staying in Osaka, so this tour worked out perfectly for our group of 10. The van picked us up at our hotel and drove us to all the spots in Kyoto. Shaniece was our English-speaking tour guide and she was wonderful — very informative, and she even altered our itinerary to accommodate a visit to Nishiki Market. She was incredibly flexible as we moved between locations since our group had a mix of adults, teens, and older folks, adjusting for those who needed an elevator or couldn't do stairs. She also managed the timing perfectly so we could see everything and still have time to shop along the way. On top of all that, Shaniece took group photos for us and recommended her favorite local eateries. Highly recommend this tour if you only have one day for Kyoto and are staying in Osaka!

We had a lovely day with Yuhey as our guide! Yuhey is very knowledgeable about Kyoto, including shrines, temples and where to get the best espresso and lunch. We had a full day private guided tour of Kyoto, full of historical information about the city and its history. I highly recommend the full day tour of Kyoto, and if you can do the private tour it's really nice to be picked up at your hotel and have the tour tailored somewhat to your interests.
Fantastic day. Kyoto was much larger than I initially realized. The day of our trip it was raining. Rain was supposed to start at 12. Our guide texted us an offer to begin early to beat the rain. He manage to get us to all the things on our list easily. Very informative. Perfect English. Very adaptable. We had 15 different tours in Japan. This was my favorite guide.
Our private guided tour of Kyoto was easily one of the highlights of our trip to Japan. From start to finish, everything was perfectly organized, insightful, and tailored to our interests. Atsushi was an exceptional guide—knowledgeable, friendly, and genuinely passionate about Kyoto’s history, culture, and traditions. His warm personality and deep local expertise made every stop more meaningful. Rather than simply showing us the famous landmarks, he shared fascinating stories, historical context, and local perspectives that brought Kyoto to life in a way we never could have experienced on our own. The tour was perfectly paced, allowing us to enjoy each location without feeling rushed. We explored beautiful temples, serene gardens, historic neighborhoods, and hidden gems that we would never have found independently. Atsushi was incredibly accommodating and happy to answer all of our questions, making the experience feel personal and engaging throughout. If you’re planning a visit to Kyoto, I highly recommend booking a private tour with Atsushi. His professionalism, knowledge, and enthusiasm made this an unforgettable experience and one of the best tours we’ve ever taken anywhere in the world. Thank you, Atsushi, for an incredible day and for creating memories that we’ll cherish for years to come!
Our group of seven ladies throughly enjoyed the tour and accompanying guide. He moved at a comfortable pace and provided us with historical context and information. Highly Recommend. Thank you Yoshi from your Canadian friends
Great adventure with yohei! He was very knowledgeable and took us to many spots to avoid the massive crowds at the shrines and temples. We enjoyed his commentary and local stories and managed to visit all the spots we wanted to see.
