Itinerary
Our first stop is the verdant one and one of the representative villages of Crete, Potamies. We will be guided to a traditional farm where we will see the milking of animals and local activities such as cheese making. There we will taste traditional products such as fresh cheese, olive oil & rakomelo!
Next stop is the Aposelemis dam, the largest water supply project in Crete. The village of Sfendili is submerged in the waters of the dam with its impressive old houses fading on the surface of the water. Also a natural wetland with a variety of birds.
Then we will start our ascent using dirt roads, we will pass through the gorge Of “Ebassas”. The view of the imposing mountains and the wild beauty of nature will reward you. At the short stop, the guide will collect various local herbs (oregano, thyme, sage) as the Cretans used to do.
After that, we'll make a stop at the longest windmill line in Crete, located at the entrance of Lasithi Plateau. Here, we'll have a panoramic photo opportunity and learn about the history of windmills in Crete!
Our next stop is on the Lassithi plateau where you will have free time for coffee or optionally to visit the impressive cave of Zeus (ticket to the cave not included).of Zeus! The birthplace of the God Zeus!
Immediately after we will enjoy delicious authentic food, baked in the wood oven in one of the best traditional taverns. Including Food with wine and water. Please let us know if you have any food allergies or special dietary needs
We will have our lunch in the most traditional Tavern of the area enjoying food from the wood oven & local wine!
The last stop will be in the traditional village of Krasi, reaching the village square, one will see the three huge planees and Vryses dominate. Among them stands the largest and perennial plane tree aged over than 2000 years.
Our journey culminates with a spectacular panoramic view stretching from Sissi to Analipsi. Don't miss the opportunity to capture stunning photos that encapsulate the scenic beauty of this unforgettable experience.

1. Our guide, Michelangelo (Mikel) had a great sense of humor and knowledge of Cretan history. The guides are integral to the entertainment of the tour, as they narrate and demonstrate each stop on the way. 10/10 for our guide. 2. The stops include views of beautiful mountain, lake, and ocean vistas for photos. Because there were only 8 people in the Land Rover, we had time to take a lot of photos. Our guide also took photos for us. Most of the vistas were isolated. We don’t have to compete with other tourists for the best spot. 3. First stop was to a traditional farm house to sample homemade raki, goat cheese, bread and olive oil. We got to grind wheat in a grindstone and milk a female goat. 4. The best stop of all was to see Zeus’ Cave. The entrance fee of €15 is not included in the tour price. The line to pay at the window took about 5 minutes. One had to hike 15 minutes uphill to the to the entrance. Once inside, there are well-constructed steps (200 down, 200 back up) and railing for the large cave. The visit takes about 10 minutes. Outside of the hills are also nice cafes and souvenir shops selling local crafts. 5. Lunch at a taverna in the mountains was simple but very tasty. I elected for a baked 1/4 chicken with lemony potatoes, Greek salad, green beans, bread with olive oil, and local red and white wine. The off-road experience in an old Land Rover jeep was a lot of fun, but the car did not have air-conditioning. We were picked up at our hotel at 8 AM, and picked up two other groups before starting the journey. We were home by 4 PM. One other annoyance was that as I tried to book this tour, I was unable to use my Viator credits. Viator also did not respond to my email or text inquiries.
Wow! Together with our guide Sebastian, we were able to experience an unforgettable day on Crete. The drive through the mountains, up to 900 meters to the first stop, the goat farm, was quite a ride. The Rover gave its all and brought us safely over hill and dale to our destination. Unforgettable were the delicacies we were allowed to taste. And on we went—the day was far too short and it passed much too quickly. Sebastian made the day unique, and so we were also able to get to know many little details. We were even able to marvel at the beautiful pests on Crete, the cicadas. Thank you, Sebastian; without you, it would have been only half as nice!!!
Had a lovely day yesterday Enjoyed the area and sights, and stories about the area by our guide / driver Anke. The off-road driving was great too. Goat milked, pot baked and went to the cave of Zeus, quite a climb up the boulders😓, but on the way back we found out there was an easier path🤣. Visited olive oil factory and ate delicious in a restaurant. This is definitely recommended

Excellent experience with Safari Experts Crete! We took the excursion to the Lassithi plateau with a visit to the cave of Zeus, and everything went perfectly from start to finish. The organization was very good, and our guide Nicolas was truly outstanding: friendly, professional, interesting, and very pleasant throughout the day. We had an excellent time, with beautiful landscapes, great discoveries, and a very good atmosphere. I recommend it 100% for discovering Crete differently!
