It's... fine. Granted as far as I can tell, there's just not a whole lot of tourist accessible history in the area to begin with. This is kind of as close as it gets, and it's not a ton. I really thought San Sebastian del Oeste was a cute town, I'm sure with some legitimately interesting history - but I still don't know much of it. This is effectively a "shopping" tour. They take you from business to business, describing the process of their trade and try to get you to buy their products. I get it, and some people are into that, but I find it irritating. I came to experience regional history and culture, but I'm standing in a trinket shop?
Truly an incredible experience! Eric, our guide, was so knowledgeable and engaging the entire day and made both the drive there and back so enjoyable. He explained everything in both English and Spanish, making sure everyone felt included during the tour. Our stops to the bakery, tequila tasting, coffee tasting, lunch, and around San Sebastián were incredible! The tequila distillery is family owned and there is so much pride in what they do that it comes out in their amazing tequila products (the hibiscus was our favourite). Panaderia Carmen’s Bakery was delicious and a great spot to stop and have a quick stretch and snack before continuing on. The spot we stopped for lunch was so delicious, and they were fantastic about our allergies. We would absolutely do this tour again on our next visit to PV. The sales people at the fire opal stop were VERY pushy, so that would be my only critique of this incredible tour. It was great to learn about, but even just looking at their products was overbearing.
Our tour to San Sebastián was excellent. Our driver and guide Erik was great and full of knowledge. We made a few stops along the way to a bakery, tequila tasting, silver shop and coffee shop before we explored the town of San Sebastián. You don’t have to feel obligated to purchase anything but some people do. We had a provided lunch at a cafe and the food was fantastic and the people were so friendly. The town and church were nice to see. After we had 1/2 hour of free time to explore. Some roads in the town are being dug up and redone but that didn’t bother us. We managed to walk around but be aware it’s a very old town and you have to be careful walking around. Old cobblestone streets and some are hilly so someone with mobility issues may find it tough. Some of the roads going to San Sebastián are hilly and lots of curves. The tour is well worth the cost you get a full day trip, enjoy baked goods and the most delicious hot chocolate. My husband and I really enjoyed the tour.
From pickup at our hotel to being dropped off at our hotel, it was a 9 hour day, but well paced, with enough to see and do to make it worthwhile. If you are looking for a shopping free experience you will be disappointed, but the places we stopped where we could spend money were well-spaced and interesting and the included lunch stop was excellent. Bring good walking shoes, the cobblestone streets and passageways in San Sebastian del Oeste are steep and uneven. Driver and guide were very good.
We visited San Sebastian with Daniel who was an amazing guide with a fun personality! He was knowledgeable and gave excellent information on the history of the area and the people. I would highly recommend Daniel and this tour.
We did this tour with Jorge and had a wonderful day. He did a fantastic job of filling the ride with personal stories, history and local information so that even the bus ride was entertaining. I appreciated his knowledge of the plants and animals, as well as the places we stopped. Carlos, our driver, did a great job on those winding roads-- I never felt car sick or unsafe. This was a relaxing day trip and a great chance to see something very different from Puerto Vallarta. We stopped at a family run tequila distillery (where we also tried local fruits right off the trees, in addition to MANY tequila and raicilla samples), at a family run store selling opals from a local mine, a coffee company ran by a woman who had 21 children (seriously!), a lovely restaurant in San Sebastian for lunch, and walked the town. It was a full and satisfying day.
Excellent full day tour in a van. We had 13 guests in the van. Juan Carlos was a superior guide full of knowledge. His English was great, and he had so much information to share with us. Julio was our driver and kept us comfortable and safe the entire day. We visited a coffee plantation, a boutique tequila farm, had a delicious lunch included, and a guided tour around San Sebastian, an old mining town about an hour and a half from Puerto Vallarta. I would highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys learning about culture and history in the area.
Franco and Ishmael were excellent guides. Franco knew many things and made our excursion a unique one. We learned about the manufacture of tequila and coffee, but much more, like the history of Mexici. Thank you so much!
In Jalisco the situation is a bit uncertain at the moment, but can still recommend the tour. It was a beautiful tour through the mountains, quiet and safe. Includes tequila tasting and informative overview of production. San Sebastian itself, a place where time has stopped, wonderful. Visited coffee plantation. Delicious lunch in village inn, very authentic. Recommended.
Our guide, Juan Carlos and the driver, Omar were phenomenal. Juan Carlos was very nice and I had an amazing mood. He did not tell the story of the village of San Sebastian in an interesting way. I didn't have a boring time all day.
