Itinerary

90 min

After pick-up from your location in Malta around 9:ooam, we will start on our journey to the Cirkewwa Ferry Terminal; located in the North of the country, to take the 09:45am ferry. Once we catch the ferry we have around 30 minutes to reach the island of Gozo. The Citadella - Located in the Capital of Gozo, this imposing fortification is built strategically on a hill giving a dynamic view of the whole island and its landscape. The ramparts are a vantage point for the onlookers and photo enthusiasts. Its roots date back to the late medieval times, but the hill has been settled since Neolithic times. One can spend time wondering along the narrow street and the ramparts, or choose to visit the Fort Visitor centre located in the ditch (accessible for all). One can also choose to go down the hill and try the local pastizzi - a local pastry delight filled with peas or cheese. You are advised to have lunch at this time - ample time will be given to see the site and eat.

Located in the town of Xaghra, this majestic structure is known to be the oldest freestanding megalithic structure in the world. Consisting of two temples which date back to between 3600 and 3200 BC, the Ġgantija Temples are included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. The site has the facility to access for all, including its interpretation centre which also deserves a visit. Entrance fee varies from €4 to €8 and sometimes there is possibility to combine it with Ta’ Kola Windmill, located 10 minutes walk away from this site.

Xerri’s grotto is an underground site in Xaghra, Gozo. This cave was discovered in 1923, underneath a house, while the owners were digging for a well. This small cave is known for its unusual yet colourful alabaster stalactites and stalagmites. There are a few attractive calcification formations that range from a height of 25cm to a metre. The entrance is via a 10 metre spiral staircase, and the cave is artificially illuminated. The owners give you a quick tour, highlighting the geological structures that were created over the millennia. The cave is open from Monday to Saturday from 09:00 to 18:00 and the entrance fee is €2.50 for adults.

30 min

Calypso’s Cave overlooks the glorious red sands of Gozo’s finest beach, Ramla l-Ħamra and is alleged to be the cave referred to by Homer in The Odyssey. The story goes that Gozo is Homer’s Island of Ogygia and the cave is the one where the beautiful nymph Calypso keeps Odysseus as a “prisoner of love” for seven years. Links with Homer are intriguing and the views of the picteresque Ramla Bay are breathtaking. On the shore below Calypso’s Cave are the ruins of a fortification built by the Knights of Malta in the mid-18th century to serve as defence against invading forces. The cave and part of the promontory are inaccessible to the public due to geological movement, however the belvedere gives you amazing views of the surrounding landscape.

20 min

The Sanctuary of Ta’ Pinu is an architectural masterpiece built in an isolated site in the island of Gozo, in the valley between the villages of Gharb and Ghammar. It is a shrine to Our Lady of Ta’ Pinu, that welcomes all the visitors who wish to pray or simply admire the splendid sculptures and craftsmanship of designs on the Maltese stone inside the church.

40 min

Geology and the sea have conspired to produce some spectacular coastal scenery at Dwejra on the west coast. Two vast, underground caverns in the limestone have collapsed to create two circular depressions now occupied by Dwejra Bay and the Inland Sea. The Azure Window, a huge natural arch in the sea cliffs that drew throngs of tourists, collapsed into the sea in March 2017 as a result of natural erosion. Huge underwater sections of the arch can be seen on 15-minute boat trips leaving from the Inland Sea, and the surrounding coastal landscapes are still wildly scenic and definitely worth visiting.

50 min

Xlendi Malta Bay Gozo is located at the bottom of a very steep valley starting from the village of Kercem. During the descent down to the Bay one can appreciate the greenery all around and the deeper one descends into the valley, one may also notice the abundance of cane growing in the valley, depending on the time of the year arriving at the car park soon after. Due to its geological formation and the shallow sloping pebbly beach, the Bay used to be a sleepy fishing village where to date some fishermen still keep a few of the remaining boat houses. The promenade, although small, is very pretty, especially in summer when it is lined with tables close to the seashore where one can enjoy a relaxing meal close to the water’s edge. This would be the last stop for the day, at around 04:10pm the group will gather again to head to the Mgarr ferry to catch the 04:30pm ferry to Malta.

Excellent trip to see all of Gozo

This is a great tour to see all of Gozo in one day. While the day is long you stop at many fantastic sights along the way. There are things we saw, that had we travelled alone, we would have missed. The guide was friendly and knowledgeable and suggested a great spot for lunch away from the main tourist area. It is a full day trip but run at your pace so you are not left exhausted by the end. Looking at our itinerary we covered all the places of interest and being on a private tour meant you had greater flexibility.

A very informative and enjoyable day

Our guide was Michael. What a knowledgeable person. Courteous, friendly, patient and going above and beyond. The salt pans was not on the list but I did want to see them and Michael obliged. Lots of additional mini stops with narrations of folklore, legends and history. Highly recommend Michael. Book him!

Great tour of Gozo

Our guide, Michael, was very accommodating, gracious and very patient while my wife took dozens of photographs. He gave a great tour of Gozo and explained the significance of all the sights.

Comprehensive and spectacular

This was so much bang for your buck. I can’t imagine anything more comprehensive. Our driver Michel was knowledgeable and witty and showed us places on Gozo we never would have found in our own. By the end of the day we had run out of adjectives and just stuck to “wow” and “amazing.” What a beautiful island. I would highly recommend to anyone looking for a complete Experience. We finished the day tired and fulfilled and feeling like we had checked all the boxes on Gozo. The privacy and ability to be on our our schedule was an added bonus. Then end of day sunset on the ferry ride home was the icing on the cake

Faith Roadmap to Survive the Traffic

Be patient with the Gozo traffic, it's pretty full. For those who like churches, it's good. Could include the other archaeological site on the island on the route.

Gozo is Beautiful and this tour is amazing!

This is an excellent trip! Michael, or driver/guide was outstanding. He gave us wonderful information and made the history come alive for us! There was lots of traffic in Malta, getting to/from the ferry, and in Gozo, so we had to adjust the schedule somewhat. And we included a lunch stop. We had a great overview of the island and saw the major sights on the island. We loved the cathedrals, the Citadel, the National Shrines. The Archaeological Park, the grotto and the caves were also worth a visit. We would definitely recommend this tour and Michael is great! It’s a long day, so just be prepared for lots of walking and lots of stops.

Best of Gozo

Michael was an excellent tour guide. He knows his way around both islands since he grew up here. He took us to every site we wanted to see on gozo and some hidden gems as well. Great stories, it was a very pleasant laid back day. Highly recommend.
