The Prison Island, also known as Changuu Island which is located in the western part of Zanzibar Island, just off Stone Town. It takes around 25 minutes by local boat riding from the Stone Town beach. The island’s main attraction is the popular Giant Tortoises, who can live up to 200 years. In this tour, you will get a chance to explore and learn the history of these beautiful creatures and also about Prison Island itself. The spice tour (3-hour) guided walking tour that passes through villages and spice plantations. It starts at Palace and then walks through to Kidichi. Here are the Persian Baths built by Seyyid Said Sultan for his wife Princess Shehrzard, one of the family members of the Shah of Persia.

We were a family of 5 with a 1 year old baby. We used ALI for all our tours, he was beyond amazing, very accommodating and very reasonable with his tours and prices. He is very knowledgeable about the island and the tours. We did Safari blue, Jozani forest, spice farm,prison island, stone town,swimming with the turtles ,(kwenda beach he took us without charging). He even arranged for my daughter horse riding in the beautiful ocean. ALI is the best in ZANZIBAR I would use him again whenever I go to ZANZIBAR.

It was ok. The driver did the itinerary in reverse order, doing the spice farm 1st, then Prison Island, then Stone Town, which is not a good idea. First the spice farm was boring and the guide was terrible. We left early it was so bad. Skip the spice farm. Next was Prison Island which was beautiful and turtles amazing. Then lunch at a local restaurant which was enjoyable. Our guide for the island and Stone Town was good. The tour of Stone Town didn't start until 2pm. It was hot, dusty and a lot of walking in a bustling, loud, chaotic city. It was sensory overload at this time of day after leaving our hotel at 8:30. We would have enjoyed it more if it was in the morning.
