Description

PLEASE BRING PASSPORTS. The natural areas of La Gomera are the very essence of the island. Discover endless trails, breathtaking viewpoints and charming hamlets in a privileged natural environment. La Gomera is full of charming places: picturesque hamlets among ravines in the middle of nature, villages with traditional and rural architecture and historic buildings of great importance due to their Columbian past. A fantastic Canarian menu is included in the price and you will be lucky enough to listen to the live silbo canario. The silbo gomero is a whistled language practised by some inhabitants of the Canary Islands to communicate across ravines. The silbo transforms the vocalised sounds of any natural human language into tonal whistles recognisable at a distance.

Itinerary

PASSPORTS IMPORTANT !!! We depart from your hotel at approximately 07:00 AM to the port of Los Cristianos. There the ferry of the company "Fred Olsen" will be waiting for us to take us to San Sebastián de La Gomera, the capital of the island.

15 min

Once in La Gomera, we will take the southern route and make a brief stop next to the Roque de Agando, a curious rock formation typical of the island. Its origin is the magma of the volcanoes that shaped the island and which, over time, has been eroded to what we can see today. It is a unique witness to what happened on La Gomera millions of years ago and offers spectacular views, especially from the base of the Roque.

Admission included60 min

We will continue to the heart of the Garajonay National Park, which contains one of the most important laurel forests in the Canary Islands and, therefore, in the world. It was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1986. We will take a leisurely stroll through the forests of the National Park, witnessing the contrast between the lush evergreen forest and the surrounding arid landscapes of the island. An authentic relic of the past that preserves part of the flora that inhabited the Mediterranean lands during the Cenozoic Era (formerly known as the Tertiary Era) and that disappeared from continental Europe due to climatic changes that hardly affected the islands due to their remote geographical location. A unique experience where you will feel a powerful connection with the majesty and tranquillity of wild nature.

60 min

We will continue our route through Agulo, a beautiful northern municipality open to the Atlantic Ocean, with the peak of El Teide always present in its landscape. This is the smallest municipality on the island of La Gomera, nestled at the foot of a great basalt wall and forming a beautiful green "balcony" overlooking the sea. This village is considered to be "El bombón de La Gomera" (The sweet of La Gomera) thanks to its undeniable attractiveness and its well-kept appearance. Agulo is full of pleasant cobbled streets and beautiful tiled houses with vegetable gardens around them.

60 min

We will return to the island's capital, San Sebastian, a city full of culture and tradition. Its old town has more than five hundred years of history. The traces of Christopher Columbus' discovery of the "New World" and the conquest of the island by the kingdom of Castile make San Sebastian a unique and special place in the Canary Islands and in the history of civilisation.

10 min

In San Sebastian, as traces of its history, the Torre del Conde, a fortress of medieval origin and the oldest preserved construction on the islands, stands out.

10 min

The church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción, where we can delight in the result of the mixture of Gothic and Canarian styles, a true museum of sacred art; the hermitage of San Sebastián, built around 1530 or the so-called Casa de la Aguada, with its well, from which legend has it that Christopher Columbus took the water with which the new continent was baptised. San Sebastián de La Gomera keeps the island's patron saint, the Virgin of Guadalupe, in her hermitage in Puntallana. Every five years she goes out in procession to all the municipalities of La Gomera, attracting thousands of faithful and curious people to her festivities. San Sebastián is an exceptional place with very good examples of its past. It is dotted with beautiful buildings of traditional Canarian architecture, with architectural examples that reveal the great religious, social, political and military activity that has been the main feature of this settlement for more than five centuries.

Amazing day in La Gomera with Yaiza

Review for Yaiza Yaiza was an amazing guide! She showed us the beauty of La Gomera with so much passion and knowledge. She explained the history, culture, and nature in a very interesting and enjoyable way. She was friendly, professional, and made sure everyone had a great experience. Thanks to her, our visit to La Gomera was unforgettable. I highly recommend her to anyone visiting the island!

Terrible experience, I do not recommend it to anyone.

PICKUP AT 6:10 AM. I think the pickup area was not the best and was very far from our accommodation, with poorly lit streets that were very busy, so we had to keep the mobile phone flashlight on, not to mention the slopes and unevenness until we reached the pickup site. I think another more accessible pickup location should have been considered, as other pickup points were at the doors of the hotels. ARRIVAL AT LOS CRISTIANOS 8:25 AM, approximately. There the guide boards and starts with the explanations and what we should do upon arriving at the Maritime Terminal, such as ticket distribution and how and when to board the ferry. 9:45 AM departure from the port already on the ferry heading to La Gomera. ARRIVAL AT THE PORT OF SAN SEBASTIÁN at approximately 10:40 AM and boarding the bus. The public address system was not heard well, and on top of that, the guide did not speak Spanish correctly as she was a foreigner. She told us that at 12:30 PM we had lunch at the agreed restaurant, and that we would be making technical stops (I think those stops were to buy time and arrive at the restaurant by 12:30 PM). The staff and service at the restaurant were correct, but the food was very scarce. ARRIVAL IN SAN SEBASTIÁN (Maritime Terminal) at 4:00 PM, from there we walked to the town (approximately 15 min.), I think that walk was unnecessary since the day was sunny and hot, and instead of dropping us off at the port, they should have left us as close to the town as possible for our visit to avoid that walk. That is to say, they drop us off at the port at 4:00 PM, we walk to the town and visit it, then return to the Maritime Terminal, ALL WALKING ON A HOT DAY.

The Capital and National Park

It was a very long day but you will have time to rest during the ferry ride and bus transportation. It warms up during the day so best to dress in layers

Very chilly but great.

In the experience 'blurb', it would be really informative to add advice about clothing requirements. We packed sunscreen, but instead, we needed long trousers, socks, trainers, and a really warm jumper and waterproof jacket. However, that withstanding, Enrique was a pleasure to have as guide, Informative and relatable. The trip was a good one, I just wish we had been better prepared! As a side note, the crossing from Los Christianos was very bumpy, so if travel sickness is a reality in your life, then prepare yourself before boarding.

La Gomera full day excursion

This really is a full day excursion! We got picked up from the North (bang on time) and taken down to the South to collect some other attendees before heading to Los Christianos port. Ferry across to La Gomera took about an hour where we then had a coach waiting to take us to various stops. We had a choice of fish, meat or vegetarian for lunch at a restaurant. Everything was well organised but overall, I found the lunch disappointing. Slavenia was a good guide and kept us informed throughout the day. Everything ran very smoothly. Shame we had some Sahara sand mist on the day which meant everything was very misty but you could still appreciate the views. We had a stop in the national park as well for a 30 minute walk about. the longest stop (40 mins) was at the capital San Sebastián before getting the ferry back to Tenerife which is not a pretty town but it was nice to have a walk before the journey back. Overall, I would recommend this trip but just be prepared for a long day!
