Full day Dendera and Abydos temple

TLDR: Ra is great. Hire him. He can customize your needs and treats you like family. You won’t regret him. I had Ra as my tour guide two different days and he was one of the best decsions I made in Egypt. Treats you as part of the family. Speaks clear easy to understand English, and German which I only can guess is excellent. The first day we went to Abydos and Dendra. Then saw three tombs in the Valley of the Kings, and gave me a tour of the Luxor museum. An ambitious day and Ra was happy to indulge my high travel stamina. Can’t recommend Abydos highly enough. It’s one of Ra’s favorites too. The quality of the reliefs, surviving color, unique characteristics of 7 holy of the holies, and unique significance in times for its holy nature makes unique. Dendra is amazing too. Ra was busy the next day so arranged for me a friend of his who is also an excellent tour guide. The next day Ra took me to Karnak, Luxor, a perfume factory, the site of the worker tombs, and the valley of the nobles. The nobles and workers are a special treat and the site where he literally grew up in the shadow of giving him such deep knowledge. He also then got me to the airport that evening. If ancient Egypt had offered tours like this, tourism would’ve died with the pharaohs. We booked for 10:00. The guide — who goes by the name “Ra” (unfortunately not a god, just a man with no concept of time) — showed up one hour late without apology. To “make up for it,” he rushed us through the day and suggested we eat lunch inside a moving van. Four people crammed into a dusty vehicle, juggling styrofoam containers while dodging potholes and prayers. The food? Local, yes. Edible, barely. And charged at double the fair price — 60€ for a meal that wouldn’t cost more than 30€ anywhere else in Egypt. Not to mention, it tasted like it had been blessed by neglect. The van itself was a mechanical relic. Small, uncomfortable, and clearly not roadworthy. The driver sped like he was fleeing the afterlife — going 120km/h in 50 zones, overtaking on blind curves, and even driving the wrong way at times. I’ve felt safer on camel rides. Due to the initial delay, we barely had time to visit the temples properly. The guide kept rushing us from one stone to the next like it was a TikTok tour. And just when we thought it couldn’t get worse, the return to the hotel took 2.5 hours instead of the advertised 1h20. In short: unsafe, unprofessional, and totally disappointing. Not even the gods would forgive this tour. Avoid at all costs — unless your idea of an adventure includes danger, overpricing, and historical sites turned into a blur of stress.

For those who want to go a little off the beaten track and experience some truly unique and remarkable sites you won’t see on other tours, this is one to book! Our tour guide Ra has a PhD in Hieroglyphics and gave us a crash course on how to read the rich stories presented in the temples of Dandara and Abydos. Both of these temple complexes are staggering in their complexity, beauty, and size but Ra did a fantastic job in keeping us on track and aware of the significance and history of everything around us. In addition to his deep knowledge of Egyptology, Ra is also an excellent photographer - helping us to capture wonderful photos to remember our day at this sites. With Hassan as your driver and Ra as your guide, this is definitely a tour to book! PS: make sure to spend some time at Abydos at behind the temple to see the Osireion, a site full of megalithic mysteries.

I can only agree with all the positive reviews here. Ra was our guide to Abydos and Dendara which we were able to cover in one day. He has an immense knowledge which he shared with us and as one reviewer said, takes great photos for you. And if you speak German, Ra speaks German too! Thank you from Fran & Blanka!

Good trip to temples of Dendera and Abydos. The temples were amazing. Guide Ragab was very helpful, informative and speaks very good English. We liked him as he recommended good places to get food and also value cartouches. Highly recommended!

I had the privilege of taking a tour with this amazing guide in Egypt. His profound knowledge of the history and culture of the country made the entire experience exceptionally captivating. My friend and I met Ragab, or Ra (great nickname for an ancient Egyptian tour guide) and the driver at 06:30 as we were advised to leave early due to the length of this all day trip. He made multiple stops along the way to offer drinks and food as the drive to Dendera is about 1.5 hours. Their crossover SUV is nice, clean and allows for very cold air conditioning which is nice on a hot Egyptian day. He lead us through the entire temple of Dendera, which included the multiple stories, the roof and the crypt beclow which was absolutely amazing. Not only is he extremely knowledgeable regarding the sites and where specific depictions are located, but he also reads ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs. We have been studying ancient Egypt for roughly 20 years, so we're able to know the gods/godesses well enough to verify his knowledge which far surpassed our own. He was even able to help us decipher where to look for each god's name within the hieroglyphs near each god. Abydos is a must see temple as well, and is much farther north from Dendera. Again, Ra was able to show us the entirety of the temple, and translate many of the symbols on the walls. The level of detail in the limestone walls from this temple is worth the drive alone. The Osireion is a must view as well, even if we can only view it from the top of the site due to restricted access. Ra and his driver are kind, polite and extremely patient. I say this due to wanting to see every wall, in every room, in every temple. They are very professional and there is no other tour I would rather use in the Luxor area. In fact, we ended up booking two other tour days with Ra Tours. Highly recommended.

I went with Raj to dendara temple and had such a great time..he is a really good communicator. He knows the history and location really well and many detailed points about the art and details..he showed me what different hieroglyphics meant ext. Would recommend

We took this tour before we started the Nile Cruise from Luxor to Aswan and it was the best decision. The quality of the temples, the hieroglyphics, the history was fantastic, better than anything else we saw later on, with the exception of Nefetari’s tomb at Valley of the Queens. Fabulous!
