Stop in Anchiano to see the House where Leobardo was born. The Birthplace of Leonardo da Vinci is located in Anchiano, a hamlet of the municipality of Vinci, about 3 km from the town center. Leonardo was born in this house on April 15, 1452. The building, a typical Tuscan farmhouse, is surrounded by the hilly landscape of Montalbano, characterized by olive groves and vineyards.
Visit the Museum that shows many of the Leonardo's works and studies. The Museo Leonardiano di Vinci is dedicated to Leonardo da Vinci and is located in Vinci, his birthplace. The museum is housed in the medieval Castello dei Conti Guidi and the Palazzina Uzielli, featuring over 60 models of Leonardo's inventions, including war machines, flying devices, and hydraulic and mechanical devices. These models are accompanied by digital animations and interactive applications, providing insights into Leonardo's genius as an inventor and engineer.
Visit a Villa or a Farm House near Vinci with cellars. Light lunch with wine tasting. Vinci is a small town in Tuscany, Italy, famous as the birthplace of the renowned artist and inventor Leonardo da Vinci. Located in the Montalbano hills, it offers picturesque views of olive groves and vineyards. Visitors can explore the Museo Leonardiano, dedicated to Leonardo's inventions and works, as well as the Leonardo's Birthplace in nearby Anchiano. Lovely drive through Tuscany hills and so nice to get out of the city! Vinci museum was interesting and the Dianello winery with lunch was superb!
Everything about our tour was perfect. Our driver, Francesco, was friendly, funny and a delight to be with all day. We loved the museums and Leonardo’s birthplace. The high point of our day was the fabulous lunch we had and the wines we were introduced to at the Daniella Winery. Simone was so knowledgeable and kind to us. Thanks for a wonderful trip!

Luigi was our most gracious guide! He provided my wife, our daughter, her fiancé and I with a most memorable experience, sharing his knowledge Leonardo, Italian history and love of life with us. The tour Leonard's birthplace, museum topped off with an excellent wine tasting and delicious lunch set in a picturesque vineyard, which was hosted by the vineyard's owner/wine maker. This was an unexpected treat. We couldn't have had a more perfect tour. Luigi, our guide, was so friendly and went out of his way to make sure we enjoyed our day. He gave us some Leonardo facts and history on the about 1 hour drive from Florence to Vinci. Vinci was beautiful, and the museums and house were lovely. We then went to a vineyard and really enjoyed the wine tasting (a sparkling rose, two chiantis, a merlot, and a dessert wine) with bread, pecorino cheese, olive oil, etc - a perfect little light lunch! (We are vegetarian, so the meal was adapted for us - I think it normally includes some meats too). The lady at the vineyard was great, she was very happy to show us around the wine cellar that had some lovely picturesque wine barrels. The whole place was beautiful too. On the way back to Florence, Luigi gave us some tips on good restaurants, which was helpful.
Sooo...very surprised focal point of trip (Leonardo) accounted for 1.5 out of 5 hours! We were not guided on the tour, really only provided a driver. Museum grounds quite confusing and we spent a bit if time trying to figure out where to go. Focus is largely on inventions and engineering which was a bit disappointing for art lovers. By Anchiano there is an artworks chronology of reproductions that is very informative, which our driver pointed out, but was not even part of the tour. We had romantic notions of walking through Leonardo's village of his youth but you don't even tour or really access the town. Lunch in a Tuscan farmhouse with cellars and wine tasting is really lunch at a golf club...we passed and will request a partial refund. Unfortunately for this tour company we had an exceptional private tour the previous day which really contrasted this tour's deficiencies. I would not take this trip. Uber to Vinci yourself and have a wander, it will be better. I will say our driver Stefano was very nice and we appreciated him and his idea about the art add-on.

In fact our drivers, like Stefano, who you really enjoyed, are experienced tour leaders, but not tour guides, that's why Stefano couldn't guide you through the museum. Leonardo has such a complex personality that you can't discover in a single trip, you need time so we invite you to come back one day and see what else Florence has to offer regarding this genius. Beautiful drive through Tuscan hills. Recommended if you want to experience Leonardo’s early years. Lunch at Tuscan winery was delightful. Our guide was knowledgeable and flexible.
