Itinerary
Facing the cathedral in Piazza del Duomo, the Baptistery of San Giovanni is one of Florence’s most ancient and sacred buildings, dating back to the 11th century. Its distinctive octagonal design, covered in white and green marble, is a stunning example of Florentine Romanesque architecture. Inside, the dome dazzles with gold Byzantine-style mosaics depicting scenes from the Bible and the Last Judgment. The Baptistery is also famous for its three magnificent bronze doors, especially the “Gates of Paradise” by Lorenzo Ghiberti, which Michelangelo himself admired. Rich in history and beauty, this extraordinary space has been the site of baptisms for centuries, including that of Dante Alighieri.
The Opera del Duomo Museum in Florence is a must-visit for anyone wanting to delve deeper into the history and artistry of the city’s iconic cathedral complex. Located just behind the Duomo, the museum showcases an extraordinary collection of original sculptures, reliefs, and architectural elements that once adorned the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, the Baptistery of San Giovanni, and Giotto’s Bell Tower. Highlights include Michelangelo’s moving Pietà Bandini, Donatello’s expressive Magdalene, and the original panels of Ghiberti’s Gates of Paradise. With beautifully curated spaces and stunning reconstructions, the museum offers a fascinating journey through centuries of faith, creativity, and Florentine genius.
Beneath Florence’s Cathedral lies the Crypt of Santa Reparata, an evocative archaeological site revealing the ancient layers of the city’s spiritual history. Visitors can explore the remains of one of Florence’s earliest Christian basilicas, dating back to the 4th–5th century. Among the ruins are intricate mosaics, ancient tombs, and structural foundations that predate the current Duomo. The crypt also houses the final resting place of Filippo Brunelleschi, the brilliant architect of the cathedral’s dome. A visit to the crypt offers a rare and fascinating glimpse into the city’s early Christian roots and the architectural evolution of its most famous landmark.
Santa Maria del Fiore, Florence’s magnificent cathedral, is one of the most iconic landmarks in Italy and a masterpiece of Gothic and Renaissance architecture. Built over centuries, the cathedral dominates the city skyline with its majestic red-tiled dome designed by Filippo Brunelleschi, a true marvel of engineering and vision. The interior is vast and serene, adorned with stunning frescoes, stained glass windows, and intricate marble floors. Highlights include Giorgio Vasari’s massive Last Judgment fresco inside the dome and the beautiful clock above the entrance, still working according to a unique 24-hour system. Visiting the cathedral is a journey through faith, art, and history, a symbol of Florence’s cultural and spiritual heart.
Giotto's Bell Tower is one of the finest examples of Gothic architecture in Italy and an essential part of Florence’s Cathedral complex. Designed by Giotto in the 14th century, the tower rises nearly 85 meters and is adorned with vibrant marble panels and detailed sculptural decorations. Climbing its 414 steps rewards visitors with panoramic views over the rooftops of Florence and the iconic dome of the Duomo. A true gem of Florentine art and engineering. Customers are kindly informed that Giotto’s Bell Tower will remain closed from November 10th to 14th.

A huge thank you to our incredible guide, Yaniel, for such a wonderful experience in Florence today. His knowledge was absolutely impressive and brought so much history to life for us. We visited the Baptistery of St. John and the Opera del Duomo Museum, and having someone so passionate and informed guiding us made all the difference. Beyond his knowledge, Yaniel was genuinely kind, gracious, and an absolute pleasure to spend the day with. We learned so much and left with an even deeper appreciation for Florence and its remarkable history. Thank you for making the day so special!

The biggest issue with this tour was the complete confusion around the meeting point. The location listed in the booking (right front of the cathedral near the orphanage) was incorrect. When we contacted the tour operator, they repeatedly insisted that this was the correct spot. However, another group on the same tour (booked through GetYourGuide) experienced the exact same issue. It was only after they called the operator via WhatsApp that the correct meeting point (left rear of the cathedral) was finally confirmed. Out of just three groups on the tour, two were affected by this, which clearly shows this was not an isolated mistake but a coordination issue on the operator’s end. It caused unnecessary stress and delays at the start of what should have been a smooth experience. As for the tour itself, it was quite underwhelming. Much of the information was delivered through pre-recorded audio, with very little added context or engagement from the guide. It felt impersonal and lacked the depth you would expect from a guided experience of such an important site. Overall, between the disorganization and the lackluster delivery, this tour did not meet expectations. I would not recommend booking this experience in its current form.
Dear Kevin, Thank you for taking the time to share your detailed feedback. We’re truly sorry to hear that your experience did not meet expectations, particularly due to the confusion around the meeting point. Regarding this issue, it seems very likely that you were assisted by our automated chatbot at the time. Unfortunately, on that specific day we encountered a temporary technical bug, which led to incorrect information being provided both via chat and, in some cases, phone responses. This has since been fully resolved, but we understand how frustrating and stressful this must have been at the start of your tour, and we sincerely regret the inconvenience it caused. For this reason, we always recommend that customers request to speak with a live agent or contact us directly via email or WhatsApp, as this ensures the most accurate and up-to-date information at all times. As for the tour itself, we would like to clarify that the experience is designed as a multilingual audio-guided tour enhanced with live expert support. This format is specifically created to allow visitors to enjoy the attraction in their preferred language (with over 20 languages available), thanks to content curated by our art historians, while still benefiting from additional insights and assistance from our live guides in English and Italian. We understand that this style may not suit everyone’s preferences; for guests seeking a more fully personalized and interactive experience, we also offer private tours, which provide a different level of engagement. We’re sorry again that this experience did not align with your expectations, and we truly appreciate your feedback, as it helps us continue improving our services. Kind regards, ACCORD Team

I took the tour in Spanish. The guide Yaniel was fantastic. He has a vast knowledge of art and he explained everything perfectly. I enjoyed the tour very much!
Dear Guest, Thank you for your wonderful review! We are delighted to hear that you enjoyed the Spanish tour and that Yaniel was a fantastic guide. Her extensive knowledge of art and her ability to explain everything clearly truly make the experience special. We hope to welcome you again soon! Kind Regards, ACCORD Team
Excellent way to experience the cathedral. The tour was so educational. Our guide, Barbara, was fantastic! She answered so many of our questions and really spent the time to enrich our experience!
Dear Customer, Thank you for your wonderful review! We're delighted to hear that you had an excellent experience at the cathedral and that the tour provided valuable insights. A special thanks to Barbara for her enthusiasm and dedication in making the visit engaging and informative. We appreciate your kind words and hope to welcome you again for another fantastic tour! Best regards, ACCORD Team
Our guide spent nearly an hour talking at us. Then headed to the museum which was closed for the day. I knew that but why didn’t the guide. The timed entry on the tickets were different on each ticket which was very confusing. We finally got into the cathedral but the dome is not included. The fine print doesn’t say there are tickets but the whole group thought they were so that says something about how this was written. An extremely disappointing trip.
Dear Mary, we thank you for the time you dedicate to us. We're sorry that the experience wasn't entirely satisfying, even though I believe that some of it is due to minor issues. For example, the fact that the tickets had different times, with only minutes of difference, is entirely negligible, given that, participating in a guided tour, it is obvious that all participants enter at the same time, as indeed happened. I believe it is a good thing that the guide talked to you for so long; in doing so, she certainly managed to contextualize what is later seen during the visit. Our tours are designed and planned to provide an optimal experience, which can vary depending on the museum due to their very nature. The fact that Brunelleschi's Dome was not included was clearly specified on the product description page and on the voucher you received. I apologize again that the visit did not fully satisfy you, but I hope that the essential aspects, such as the information and narratives provided by our guide within the scope of your reservation, enriched you culturally and left you with fond memories of the wonders you visited! Best regards, ACCORD Team
Very good guide who really knew her information. Tour ran efficiently and was easy to find. However it was rather too long because it was delivered in two languages which doubled the time to 3 hrs.
Dear Sheila, we are delighted to hear that you enjoyed the tour, and we are especially pleased that our guide, a key element of the experience, met your expectations and was appreciated! Occasionally, due to last-minute customer needs, the tour may be conducted in dual languages. When this happens, we always send an email notification in advance, and if it is not preferred, we always find a solution! Nevertheless, we hope that the memories you take home with you are about the valuable information and wonders you experienced during the visit. Best regards, ACCORD Team
Beautiful to visit the Duomo, the museum and Giotto's bell tower. ( 413 steps uphill and as many downhill, with very narrow areas and spiral staircases where you had to slip with people going up and down at the same time .. but it's absolutely worth it!) Too bad for Brunelleschi's Dome, for which seats sell out quickly, and for the Baptistery that follows too strict closing hours to the public.
We’ve used Viator in years past in multiple countries and have been very satisfied. This tour however was horrible! We first booked a private Duomo tour which Viator then said the couldn’t schedule. We signed up for a group tour instead. The guide never introduced herself and didn’t seem to know any information about the Duomo. 4/5ths of the sanctuary was roped off for some reason, so we stood in the back of the Duomo while the guide showed the group of about 20 people pictures of what we would normally have seen if she would have been able to take us further into the space! 15 minutes into the tour people began rolling their eyes, walking away and leaving the tour. They should have canceled the tour when they realized you couldn’t see most of the building!
A bit disappointing that it was not skip the line to the cathedral - it turns out it is impossible to skip this line. Cathedral visit alone was a complete waste of money - you can just line up for free. But the remaining part of the tour was useful - you got an explanation of parts of the baptistry, and a whistlestop tour of the museum. The only bizarre bit was we didnt get into the crypt as part of this tour, we had to line up again just to see it later. So not a complete waste of money, but next time I would just buy a 20euro combo ticket and line up, with an audio guide from the internet or a good guidebook.
