Itinerary
Via delle Volte is definitely one of the most characteristic streets in the city! The beating heart of the medieval city, this straight street developed along the route of the old embankment of the Po’, the longest river in Italy, which was diverted in 1152.
Before arriving at the main square of the city we make a small detour to see the Jewish ghetto. The presence of a Jewish community in Ferrara has been documented continuously since the 13th century, long before the creation of the ghetto. Let's talk about it!
Here we are in the most important square in the City! Already in medieval times it was the centerpiece of Ferrara even though at the time it was known as Piazza del Mercato delle Erbe, the place where precisely the market took place.
The most important church of the city! Over the centuries, the cathedral underwent numerous restorations and alterations, especially in the Renaissance and Baroque periods, which enriched its eclectic appearance. Let's talk about it!
Currently the seat of the Municipality of Ferrara, the square occupies the area that was once the courtyard of the Ducal Palace. One of the most distinctive elements of the complex is “Lo Scalone” and we are going to talk about it!
One of the beauties of the city of Ferrara is the famous and splendid Castello Estense, the emblem of which the people of Ferrara are proud. We are going to know the story of this amazing place! Ticket cost: 12€
This is the courtyard of the Municipal Theater of Ferrara. It can be accessed on foot for free, and I recommend you look up to enjoy a very special view!
Another very characteristic street! Look up and admire the beauty of the buildings around you! mong the various noteworthy palaces, the one that stands out the most is definitely the Palazzo dei Diamanti. Let's discover a "cool" story behind it!

Tour of the historic city center of Ferrara
We did the audio walking tour of Ferrara. It was excellent . It covered areas around the center of Ferrara, had interesting stories and background. We liked that it’s flexible. You can start at any point and rejoin as you wish.
Insufficient information. There is such a point 2 if you don't want to go back to the station to start from scratch. But such a point is an entire street, at least 300m, it doesn't tell where point 2 is actually. Confused.
Hi, I'm sorry to read this review, especially because you messaged us on WhatsApp asking for directions, and in less than 2 minutes we replied, explaining that the beauty of that street was... walking through it 😉! Since it's a walking tour, it's a characteristic street, and it leads directly to the next attraction, I thought it was clear how to navigate 😌. I hope this answer can help other travelers! We preferred a free tour; we used it less than we thought, but it was without problems.
Quite useful. Of course, an in-person visit would have been better, but it helped me get to know the city.
Very useful support. Very simple and essential. Great for exploring a city Also complete with maps
A good brief tour of the city with interesting additional stories. Well put together. Nice to have the option of reading as well as listening. Need good wifi to make it work.
Nice and convenient solution to visit the city receiving the necessary information to appreciate the main attractions.
The guide was really easy to follow, full of useful information and I could dip in and out of the route as I please. Really good!
All right , thanks to the whatsup assistance that explained how to activate the navigation and how to send activation links to other members of the group
