The BELILENA Caves were home to the BELIGONDA man. Occupied by Prehistoric homosapiens 35,000 years ago, these caves carry a lot of history. The walk to the caves is very pleasant and fun. Winding through Tea estates and runner plantations one can spot a wide variety of birds and spiders and flowers. Lots of mini waterfalls en-route. The caves itself are hidden behind a wide waterfall -- almost feels like a surreal set from the PHANTOM comics!!!!! The taxi will drop you off at the edge of the Katilgala Jungle. You have the option of taking a 'Tuk-Tuk' . The Tuk-Tuk will take you to the border of the estate, beyond which you have to trek on foot. We opted to WALK throughout and politely refused the Tuk-Tuk that had been arranged . We enjoyed the long walk. When we ran out of water, we simply filled our bottles from the clear jungle stream flowing along the path!!!! My suggestion -- Its perfect for those who love to explore the greenery.
