Most amazing experience in Japan!

As soon as you arrive at the station to meet up with Taka, you will feel genuinely welcomed for your visit. The cultural Japanese experience begins as you make your short walk to Taka & Keiko's home. There, you are greeted with Keiko and you begin doing origami and enjoy conversation over drinks. Shortly after, you begin with your Japanese cooking experience. Their nigiri, udon from scratch, and tempura are the best we have had, ever! After the full meal, you will enjoy some matcha and calligraphy. We have visited them year after year, and feel reunited as a family. Taka & Keiko, we can't wait until our next visit. Thank you for being such a warm family- you are dearly missed already!

Hello Jennifer-san, Your family is so wonderful, with two elementary school-aged children who are very active and engaged. This is your second visit, following last year, and your relatives have also visited our home multiple times. My wife, Keiko and I feel like you are truly our family. We look forward to continuing to watch your children grow. Arigato, Taka & Keiko

Japanese cooking - so much more than food!

One of the most authentic experiences of my trip to Japan. Our amazing host Taka met our small group of five at the train station, thank you! We began with a walk through the local neighbourhood, stopping at a shrine which added a wonderful cultural context to the day. Then, when we arrived at Taka's home, we were welcomed by his lovely wife Keiko who taught us how to fold a crane, lucky for us she is a patient woman. Then after a refreshing drink we moved onto the cooking experience itself. The food was incredible. We rolled sushi with the freshest seafood, cooked premium wagyu beef, made tempura, and even made our own udon noodles, which involved some entertaining disco-style footwork to knead the dough! Every dish was delicious, and the hands-on nature of the experience was so fun. As a solo traveller, I instantly felt part of my new Japanese family. The atmosphere was relaxed and personal, and plenty of opportunity to ask questions and learn a little more about Japanese culture. I'll be back and thank you to you both :)

Don’t miss your chance to be part of the family

Amazing experience and I highly recommend it. The owners graciously open up their home to provide an authentic experience. We made udon and sushi from scratch. The food was delicious and learning origami and calligraphy was a nice touch. I will definitely visit again when we return to Japan.

Must Do Tokyo Experience

My daughter, our friends, and I had an amazing time with Taka and his wife. From the moment Taka picked us up right on time, we knew we were in good hands. He even brought umbrellas in case it rained, which was such a thoughtful touch. This experience is so much more than a cooking class or a meal. You’re welcomed into their home and treated like family. Taka and his wife are incredibly kind, warm, and welcoming, and they made the entire experience feel so personal. The food was absolutely delicious, and we learned so much about Japanese culture along the way. It ended up being one of the highlights of our trip to Tokyo. I would do this again in a heartbeat. It’s worth every penny and is an absolute must if you’re visiting Tokyo. Thank you, Taka and your wife, for such a wonderful and unforgettable experience!

Our favorite experience in Japan

We travelled from Chicago in the US and booked Homecoming Taka for our first day- and this was by far the best activity of our trip! Five of us in total, all slightly jet-lagged, and Taka and Keiko made us feel immediately at home. From the moment Taka greets you at the train, you are part of the family. This is an authentic experience, where you learn so much about the Japanese culture in the warm home of a local family. It felt so much more special than a big group tour. For context, we have three kids age 10 and 8 year old twins, and they also said this was their favorite part of the trip. They also maintain it was the best sushi of the trip as well! Cannot recommend this more highly. Taka and Keiko, thank you again for opening your home to us! Unforgettable experience.

Very nice experience!

We all thoroughly enjoyed spending time with Taka and Keiko. I particularly enjoyed making sushi and eating it. But we also did many other things. Best time in Japan.

Amazing Japanese home-based experience!

Our family visited Taka and Keiko's wonderful home today. Taka met us at the station. We walked a few minutes to his and Keiko's house in a delightful suburb of Tokyo. Thoroughly recommend this all-round Japanese experience: cooking (and eating!), art, history, culture. We tried so many activities and discovered so much about Japan. Our hosts were also very interested in our countries. A wonderful and unique home experience. Lovely couple. Thank you Taka and Keiko for welcoming us into your home and making us feel so special. We hope to return to Japan soon, and visit Taka and Keiko again.

Hello Jon-san, You were a very adventurous guest, traveling all over Japan by car with your wonderful family. You even went to Kagoshima, a place not widely known even among Japanese people, as it's the setting for a James Bond movie. Keiko and I hope we can meet again at my home with your family in the near future. Arigato, Taka & Keiko

Highlight of our trip!

We had such a great time with Taka and Keiko. They were so welcoming, we instantly felt comfortable with them and had a great time learning, cooking, and eating! I booked this because of all the great reviews and am happy to add one more to the list. If you're considering booking, just do it! You will have the best time and leave feeling like you have two new friends in Japan. Side note: Don't be like me. I am a barefoot (no socks) enthusiast, which is more or less acceptable where I live but after going to Taka and Keiko's I read that you should always wear socks in people's homes, temples, etc. Taka and Keiko were too kind to say anything but I feel like I should spread the word just in case anyone else is living the no socks life. Maybe this is old news to the rest of the world but I had no idea. I will definitely wear or bring a pair of socks next time! And yes, there will definitely be a next time :)

Operator response

Hello, Thank you for visiting our home the other day. You learned a lot about Japanese culture during your trip to Japan. You made a good observation about socks. However, there's no need to worry. The climate in Japan is much hotter now than it used to be. It's not uncommon to not wear socks except in formal settings. Next time we meet, we'd love to talk to you more about Japanese culture. Amazing day for the whole family.

We had an amazing experience either Taka and Keiko. All of the aspects of the day were fantastic. They entertained, educated and fed our family (kids aged 7 and 3) for the entire day. Would highly recommend and cannot wait to visit again!
