Itinerary

The Belvedere in Vienna is one of the leading museums worldwide. Its famous art collection includes works ranging from the Middle Ages to the present day. The unique, overall complex, with its two palaces, the Upper and Lower Belvedere, and their extensive gardens, is one of the most stunning Baroque architectural ensembles in the world. In the 18th century, the Austrian general Prince Eugene of Savoy commissioned the renowned Baroque architect Johann Lukas von Hildebrandt to build a summer residence. After the death of Prince Eugene, Empress Maria Theresa acquired the entire complex and transformed the Upper Belvedere into an exhibition venue for the imperial collections – making it one of the first public museums in the world. The Lower Belvedere, formerly the residence of Prince Eugene, is nowadays home to illustrious exhibitions. Entry ticket only (no guided tour included). Visitors may proceed to the museums entrance directly and enjoy their visit individually.

Bad

I bought tickets through TripAdvisor and got a confirmation but when I tried to pull up the actual tickets, I got a message to check my email as the tickets had been sent separately. I was unable to find any separate email and had to buy tickets again at the museum.

Grand and Beautiful

We visited the Belvedere Museum in the afternoon, and it was a beautiful experience. The museum itself is a masterpiece, with its elegant architecture and fascinating art. After exploring the galleries, we wandered through the peaceful gardens, which are free to access and quite popular. It was a perfect way to end our visit, enjoying the serene atmosphere and beautiful views of the museum and its surroundings.

Well worth a visit. Beautiful.

Our favorite place we went to in Vienna, as a family. The artworks were wonderful, and our children were so amazed to see works that they had seen only in books. The grounds were beautiful, but it was winter. I would have loved to see the outside in the spring or summer. It was well worth our time and money.

Lower Belvedere Palace, Orangery and art collection

Just back from a 4 day Christmas Market city break in Vienna, during which we visited the Lower Belvedere Palace, including the Orangery, the stables, gardens and Messerschmitt and Brown art exhibitions. We spent about 2 hours there viewing the various art exhibitions and is certainly worth a visit. There was an exhibition of various famous impressionists art on display, (Renoir, Degas etc), as well as other contemporary and middle age exhibits. The Baroque interiors are fine examples, especially the Hall of the Grotesque, the Marble Gallery and the Golden room. Well worth a visit if that is your type of thing.

Mindblowing exhibits

Amazing exhibits! I learned so much about Klimt's painting technique and Slovenian painters. Absolutely loved it, and recommend people to visit the Upper Belvedere and this place with the combination ticket.

Belvedere.

My entire visit to the Belvedere included going to the upper Belvedere, the lower Belvedere and the gardens. The upper Beveldere is fantastic. Beautiful construction and spectacular works. The lower one has a beautiful room and the collection has beautiful paintings. But if the time is limited I don't think it's an indispensable visit. The gardens cannot be commented. It was being replanted; there was no beauty caused by the coming of the year. But I believe that in spring/summer it should be beautiful.

expendable

Personally I didn't find it interesting. It seems like one of those places that would not be essential on a short visit to Vienna.

Operator response

Thank you for your feedback! The temporary exhibitions at Lower Belvedere give us the opportunity to offer a wide range of art and something for every taste. However, we regret that our exhibitions have not been able to convince you.

Kissing row

The first difficulty I had was trying to figure out where to go to find the museum entrance. I went to ask at the ticket office and they had sent me somewhere else, finally I arrive in the right place and I find a long line of people waiting to enter, all booked long before. Once you enter the odyssey began, people on the right people on the left, line for lockers. inside the museum there is no Guide where it says go first to this room and then to that but you are completely free to go wherever you want, so there are totally empty rooms and overflowing rooms with people coming from the right and left. in some places it also creates so much confusion I remember the exhaustion after turning the first floor of the museum. I felt really very tired and overwhelmed so I decided to sit and wait. I also sat on a bench inside the garden, which is really wonderful and that reassured me, I ended the visit.

Belvedere, Vienna

Huge !!! The place offer beautiful landscape. Built in 1700 century the place offer amazing view. There are fountains , gardens , architecture or should i say complete package. They also have a app which help keep kids busy with a adventure animal searching game. Once it was a zoo and now they have hidden digital animals, Cafe is good but a little overpriced i would say. This is a must have in the itinerary

Must-see

We took a tour of the Belvedere. This palace contains magnificent Collections including of course Klimt and many others. The exteriors are also very pretty. Easy access (on foot) from Karlsplatz.
