I wouldn't do it again.

The property is not equipped to accommodate tourists in winter. It was really cold and the curtains were not well insulated, as was the restaurant area. In the evening after dinner there was no entertainment whatsoever (other than standing around the fire with two other guys), but none of the staff were present. Breakfast was really sparse. The outward journey involved a 2-hour camel ride to a not very scenic spot in the desert. The only positive note was the quad bike ride back to Douz (paid for separately), it was nice to drive through the dunes. The Sahara is always spectacular!

Great for a trip with friends

We loved this excursion. We started out on the camels. Its about a 2 hour ride into the Sahara. The camp is beautiful and everyone is so friendly. Watching the traditional bread being made was great and the fire kept us warm. We were then served a delicious meal! After that there was a fire where we sat and talked with the other campers. You will sleep in a tent. We slept comfortably but it was cold so make sure you bring warm clothes!! Overall a fantastic experience. Highly recommend.

Don't forget your binoculars,as I did,to look at the night sky.

I visited solely to see the sunset from a dune and have dinner.I am slightly disabled and unfit to ride any animal or stay in a tent.In view of the highly negative review in May. I thought I would make a comment or two. Given the extremely inhospitable physical conditions here, the campsite seems to do a good job. There is plenty of running water ( they have a huge water tower and ,presumably,a well) and the washing places and WCs are clean- well above the average for Tunusia. The staff are hospitable and there is a proper dining room with electric light and tables. The food ( camel stew) was comparable to the lamb I was given in a Tunisian five star hotel, and the plates were considerably warmer! There was an interesting hot embers bread baking demo with a good product. I found the evening to be an interesting experience.

NOT WORTH THE MONEY

The camp was beyond horrible: dirty mattresses, suffocating heat, no hygiene at all. At night we saw insects crawling everywhere, and one of our friends literally found a scorpion near his bed. The bathrooms were broken, no running water. This is not a “desert experience”, it’s a health hazard.

Warm hospitality, comfy stay, and magical desert vibes.

I spent a night at a camp in the Douz desert and had such a lovely experience. The people were incredibly kind and welcoming, the bed was surprisingly comfy, and the whole atmosphere was peaceful and beautiful. Highly recommend it for anyone looking to disconnect and enjoy the magic of the desert.

Fun overnight camping in the Sahara

Very good experience overall. Camel ride was fun albeit a bit long. Our cameleers Amir and his colleague took good care of us throughout our ride. Tent and accomodations were clean. Beautiful sunset and sunrise over the desert. Dinner was flavorful, especially the brik was excellent! Breakfast was ordinary and quick, probably because it's designed to enable guests to leave early in the morning. Staff was friendly and courteous throughout. And Munir helped us at the agency site/ starting point.
