Dolphin & Sealife Cruise at Crazy Sister Marina

Itinerary

Pass by

Cruise past the famous Murrells Inlet MarshWalk, a lively waterfront boardwalk known as the heart of the Inlet and the “Seafood Capital of South Carolina.” This scenic stretch is lined with popular waterfront restaurants and local favorites like Dead Dog Saloon, Drunken Jack's, Wicked Tuna, Creek Ratz, J Peters, The Claw House, Bovines, and Inlet Shipwreck Bar & Grill. Bustling with charter boats, live music, and waterfront energy, the MarshWalk offers a true glimpse into the coastal lifestyle of Murrells Inlet and the greater Myrtle Beach area. Hang out at the Tuna Shack, Inlet Beer Garden or the Mullet Hut and watch fishing boats come and go with the day’s catch, see pelicans and shorebirds along the marsh, and take in sweeping views of the saltwater estuary that makes this area so unique. It’s one of the best places along the Grand Strand to experience fresh seafood, waterfront dining, and Lowcountry charm — all in one unforgettable setting.

Pass by

As we leave the MarshWalk, you’ll see the Murrells Inlet Veterans Pier, a public fishing pier built on the historic site of a World War II U.S. Army Air Forces Crash Boat Station (circa 1943–1945). The station supported aerial gunnery training from the nearby Myrtle Beach Army Air Field and was used to locate and recover pilots and aircraft involved in training accidents over the coastal waters and marsh. The facility included a long marsh dock, storage buildings, and a radio shack used to coordinate rescue operations. Local boat captains and volunteers often assisted military personnel in coastal patrol and recovery efforts, making it an important support site along the Grand Strand during the war. After WWII, the military abandoned the station and it transitioned into a public fishing pier. Over time, storm damage, including Hurricane Hugo in 1989, destroyed much of the original structure. The site was later rebuilt and incorporated into the MarshWalk area in the early 2000s.

Pass by

Keep an eye along the shoreline and you might spot one of the area’s most unusual landmarks — the so-called “UFO House” in Garden City. Built in 1976, this round, elevated structure looks like something straight out of a sci-fi movie, which is exactly how it earned its nickname. But this home isn’t just for looks — it was actually designed as a hurricane-resistant structure, engineered to withstand extreme coastal storms with its unique shape and elevated design. Surrounded by traditional beach homes, the UFO House quickly became a local curiosity and has since turned into a must-see landmark along the Grand Strand. It’s even survived major hurricanes with little to no damage, proving that its futuristic design was far ahead of its time. Still owned by the original family and used as a vacation home, they usually are only seen around the holidays. And while we might not see the owners too often, locals like to joke that the only regular residents are George, Jane, Judy, and Elroy.

Pass by

As we continue through Murrells Inlet, you’ll pass Oyster Cove, one of the area’s most exclusive waterfront communities. Known for its “million-dollar homes,” this neighborhood features private docks, sweeping marsh views, and direct access to the tidal creeks of the inlet. It offers a glimpse into Lowcountry waterfront living, where boats are as common as cars and every home overlooks the ever-changing salt marsh.

Pass by

As we continue towards the jetties, you’ll pass Huntington Beach State Park, one of South Carolina’s most important protected coastal preserves. This undeveloped stretch of shoreline features wide, natural beaches, dunes, and maritime forests that remain largely untouched by development, offering a rare glimpse of the Grand Strand as it once was. The park is part of a vital coastal ecosystem that supports a wide variety of wildlife, including shorebirds, sea turtles during nesting season, and frequent dolphin activity just offshore. Its estuaries and salt marshes are also part of the larger Murrells Inlet watershed, one of the most biologically rich tidal systems on the East Coast. Huntington Beach State Park is widely recognized for its conservation efforts and natural beauty, making it a standout landmark along the South Carolina coast and a key example of preserved Lowcountry habitat.

Pass by

Sail by Drunken Jack Island, a quiet and undeveloped barrier island surrounded by winding tidal creeks and salt marsh. According to local legend, the island takes its name from a pirate known as Drunken Jack, who was reportedly left behind by his crew after a night of celebration. The story goes that they intended to return for him, but days turned into weeks and weeks into months. When they finally made it back, all that remained was a weathered campsite marked by scattered bones and empty rum bottles — a haunting tale that has become part of Murrells Inlet folklore.

Pass by

If we head south out of the jetties along the coast, we'll pass Atalaya Castle, located within Huntington Beach State Park. Built in the 1930s, this unique structure was the winter residence and artist studio of Archer and Anna Hyatt Huntington, a wealthy industrialist and a world-renowned sculptor. The castle was designed in a distinctive Moorish-style layout, centered around a large open courtyard and built using simple materials like brick and iron to withstand coastal conditions. Anna Hyatt Huntington created many of her famous sculptures here, while Archer Huntington focused on philanthropy and cultural projects. The estate was intentionally designed to be functional rather than ornate, serving as both a creative workspace and a seasonal home along the coast. Just inland and out of sight lies Brookgreen Gardens, founded by the Huntingtons as one of the first public sculpture gardens in the United States. It showcases many of Anna Hyatt Huntington’s works.

Poor dolphin cruise better ones out there

We booked with the company and told to arrive early. We got there an hour early. Walked around went and checked in a half hour early. Asked if we wanted to pay an extra 5.00 to cut the line. Husband declined since we were so early. So people who show up at the last minute will get to go before you and several showed up that way, approximately 15. So if u show up early to he first in line it wont matter. Boat is clean. Easy to get on and off the boat. The real problem is if the one side sees dolphins they dont announce it so everyone can see. The captain didn't slow the boat down or even make an attempt to make sure everyone seen the dolphin. On the way to dock as he thanks you for coming he says and we seen a dolphin on the way in. Like no we didnt. One side of the boat may have. We have done several tours when we visit and will stick with the others. This is the 2nd time we have went with crazy sisters to be disappointed. Also you will have several stairs to go up to get your tickets.

Dolphin cruise

I enjoyed being in the marina itself and being on the ocean. We saw many birds and a couple of dolphins.

Fun Boat ride

This excursion was a fun boat ride especially with choppy waters. However the guide seemed more focused on showing the history of the area then helping to see dolphins and other water life. As the guide did not point out any marine life. Luckily the kids next to us saw some dolphins so we did as well. However for the cost of the excursion we expected to see marine life with the help of the crew. But that did not happen. But all in all it was a fun excursion.

Total Scam

Its called a dolphin and sealife cruise and all we saw was a dead fish and that was before we even left the dock. When we asked the staff they said it's just a name and that there are no dolphins to see and when asked about the sealife he said "whatever you see birds....fish...". A scam if I ever seen one.

Fake advertisement

That it’s a fake advertisement saying you can take selfies with the dolphins and that’s not true that’s why I took the ride really wanted to see more dolphins than what I did

Operator response

Hi Tammy. None of our advertisements or listings speak to taking selfies with dolphins. Our tour goes out searching for dolphins and sea life in the wild. It's always magical when they come out to play in their natural habitat. We're sorry you didn't see as many as you were hoping for but some are always better than none as we can never guarantee sightings due to them being wild animals.

Small boat and rough seas

Unfortunately the seas were rough and they switched us to a small fishing boat. It was not pleasent because of the rough seas. Had they stuck to the large pontoon boat, my husband wouldn't have felt sick. There were no dolphins that day, but it is nature so it happens. Staff are very friendly and informative. We would go again, but only on the larger boat. You can bring snacks and drinks, which they sell in the store. There are no snacks and drinks on the fishing boat, there are on the larger boat.

Operator response

Thank you for your review and for recognizing our friendly and informative staff AnnMarie! We're sorry to hear the conditions weren't as comfortable as you had hoped. While everyone's tolerance for motion on the water is different, the safety of our guests and crew is always our top priority, and our captains would never depart if conditions were deemed unsafe. To help ensure guests still get out on the water, especially during times of lower demand, we occasionally upgrade tours to a smaller premium vessel rather than canceling altogether. While the experience may differ from our larger boat, our goal is always to provide the best possible trip for our guests. We appreciate your understanding that wildlife sightings can never be guaranteed, and we're glad to hear you'd consider joining us again in the future. We hope to welcome you back aboard soon!

Overall good experience

Overall good. A little misleading on the hands on sea creatures the kids could see. We picked this company because of that one feature. It was a normal fish tank and they brought around a crab.....also, a little glitch in the email with the address map link. Thankfully, it mentioned wicked tuna or we would have been on the other side of town. Other than that, fun experience

Operator response

Thank you for your feedback, and we're glad to hear your family had a fun experience overall! We appreciate your comments regarding the touch tank. One thing that makes our small-species exhibit unique is that the animals vary from trip to trip based on what our crew collects from the local waters. Rather than keeping marine life captive long-term, we regularly rotate and release the animals, giving guests a chance to see and learn about species that are actively living in our local ecosystem. Because of that, the experience can look a little different each day. Thank you as well for bringing the map link issue to our attention. We're glad the directions referencing Wicked Tuna helped you find us, and we'll reach out to TripAdvisor to ensure everything is working correctly. We appreciate you choosing us and hope to welcome you aboard again soon!

We didn’t see any...

We didn’t see any animals. Everyone was nice, just never seen anything at all. I’ve been on dolphin tours before and they were great

Operator response

Hi Dani. Thanks for joining us and for the kind words about our crew. Although we have a great success rate with seeing dolphins, they are wild animals and move quickly so there are times that they're hiding out there and just can't be found. We always cover as much ground as possible and the crew gives 110% to locate them. We hope your group enjoyed the narration and took advantage of exploring the creatures in our on board interactive touch tank that day too- it's always cool to see some of the local small species up close and personal.
