Itinerary

60 min

.Five kilometers from Sagres is the most southwestern point of Europe: Cabo de São Vicente, the last piece of home where Portuguese sailors once looked when they set out for the unknown. Imagine yourself in a remote, wild and windswept landscape, with cliffs that make it a must-see for any ship traveling to the Mediterranean. This is Cabo de São Vicente. The jagged cliffs rise up to 60 meters For the citizens of Rome, Cabo de São Vicente was the "End of the World", a supernatural vortex where the setting sun was dramatically submerged by the immense and unknown ocean. The myth persisted throughout the Middle Ages until one man decided to put an end to all this crazy nonsense and, with that, put an end to the Dark Ages: Infante D. Henrique, the Navigator, father of the Golden Age of Discoveries in Portugal.

.The Fortress of Sagres, also referred to as Castelo de Sagres or Forte de Sagres, is a military monument, located near the village of Sagres, in the municipality of Vila do Bispo, in the Algarve region, in Portugal. The fortress was built in the 15th century, during the period of Infante D. Henrique, Portuguese navigator, having been badly damaged by the earthquake of 1755 and rebuilt at the end of that century, in a very modified form. Inside, the Church of Nossa Senhora da Graça stands out, also built during the Henry period. The fortress is of great historical importance due to its connection to Infante D. Henrique and the Portuguese Discoveries, and in 2018 it was the most visited monument in the Algarve, and probably in the entire southern region.

.The Ponta de Piedade is a landform near the city of Lagos, in the Algarve region of Portugal. It consists of a cape surrounded by several cliff-type rock formations, with up to 20 m in height, being one of the most interesting tourist attractions in the region. It is one of the main tourist attractions, both in the municipality of Lagos and at a regional level, with a valuable set of historical, natural, scenic and geological heritage. Next to the beach stands the Santa Catarina Fortress, built in the 17th century to defend the bar of the Arade river. The beach owes its name to the rocks that lie between the sand and the sea. It is one of the most famous in the Algarve, if not in the whole country. Every year, during the summer, the beach fills with tourists from all over the world and, despite its great extension, it is rare that it is not crowded with people. In recent years, it has hosted the Mundialito de Futebol de Praia, which is played in a stadium built for the purpose and which has a capacity for 3000 people. Next to the beach, there are several restaurants and bars that attract a large number of tourists, both during the day and at night.

João and by magnificent support facilities. Located about 5 km from the city of Lagoa, the village of Carvoeiro offers a set of small beaches cut by the rocky cliffs, with clear waters and fine sands, forming idyllic summer resorts that have become suitable for residential tourism that has emerged in recent years. times. In fact, since time immemorial, Carvoeiro has been the target of various civilizational attentions. In this magnificent stretch of the Algarve coast, where Nature has worked wonders, the sea was the last dwelling place for Romans, victims of naval battles and storms, whose traces found (a Roman block and an anchor) prove its presence.

.Benagil beach The beach appears at the bottom of a deep valley, next to the small fishing port of Benagil; the fishing village that the beach is named after has a lofty position at the top of the cliff. Access to the beach leads to the area reserved for fishing vessels, which also take care of visits to sea caves and wild beaches in the region. Past the colorful boats, the beach stretches eastward to the imposing ochre-toned cliff, carved from carbonated rocks very rich in marine fossils, also called shellfish, which testify to a bygone era when the sea level was more inside. These rocks are now very sculpted and shaped by the combined action of rainwater (which promotes the dissolution of limestone rock) and the mechanical force of the sea. In Benagil, rocky patterns typical of karst landscapes are visible, such as caves or grottos in cut, on the cliff face.

.The Praia da Marinha is one of the most beautiful and emblematic beaches in Portugal, considered, still, as one of the 10 most beautiful beaches in Europe and one of the 100 most beautiful beaches in the world by the Michelin Guide, having even been distinguished with the award "Praia Dourada" by the Ministry of the Environment, in 1998, due to its unique natural values. In addition to this honorable distinction, it also became the promotional image of the 'Guia de Portugal' distributed throughout the world. This beach located on the site of Caramujeira, in the middle of the coastal area of the municipality of Lagoa, in the Algarve, has become well known not only for its beautiful cliffs, but also for the high quality of the water that allows you to glimpse the seabed with a unique visibility. Praia da Marinha has been widely used by international advertising agencies and television stations for recording advertisements.

Great daytrip choice

We started our day with Luis picking us up at our apartment rental in Portimao. We first went to Ponta da Piedad. Then we also visited the "end of the world" on the Vicentine coastline followed by a stop at the Sagres fortress. The views on this furthest western point in Europe are amazing-beautiful waves crashing against the beautiful cliffs, wow. Then Luis took us to an amazing beach in Salema, a village I had never heard of before. My husband and I looked at each other, agreeing that this was exactly our kind of beach retreat, small, uncrowded and lovely. After, driving what I call back roads, which is one of my favorite things to do, Luis took us east through some lush valleys to Burgau, another lovely, small beach town where we made a brief stop. Then on to Carvoeira where we took a short break to enjoy the view of the beach, live music and a glass of vino verde. Also in Carvoeira, we went down to the Algar Seco rocks for some great photos. Next we drove through Lagoa and Estombre, I think. On our way back to our apartment, we passed by the Lagos fortress since we had seen it the day before. And perhaps the best part of the day was lunch in Lagos at Restaurante A Forja, recommended by Luis. All in all a great day - the scenery, the food, chatting with Luis, not only gaining knowledge about this daytrip but also about other topics. It's always wonderful when you can meet a local and interact, which we did during our 8 hour trip. Obrigada Luis

Great Algarve Tour with Luis.

Luis was our guide for the entire day. He picked us up right on time at our hotel. He customized the day by what we had done previously so we wouldn’t duplicate the same things. He also arranged the schedule to avoid the crowds. He knew the spots to go for the best views. His narrative was perfect. He provided enough information without talking nonstop. I would highly recommend this tour. Request Luis to get the best guide.

Best of the Rest

Luis is a great guide who worked to ensure we made the best use of our time. He was knowledgeable about all of the locations we wanted to see and flexible, starting two hours early and adjusting the order to make sure we visited the locations with phenomenal views before the rain started. He knew about the history, culture, and fun facts that he readily shared based on our interest. He was able to work in stops to eat local and to see a few places on our bucket list before departure. Make sure to get to Sarges, End of the World, and caves in Largos.

Tour guide was not very...

Tour guide was not very good . We did see the sites however he gave us no history . Did not speck at all in the van.

Operator response

I'm so sorry you didn't enjoy our trip. I didn't realize you weren't enjoying it. You were always smiling, you told me you enjoyed lunch at the restaurant where I work, and you also enjoyed our boat trip. I never really understood that. But I'm sure I did my best, and I can also tell you that so far you've been the only ones who haven't enjoyed it. Once again, my sincerest apologies if I disappointed you.

Great customer service

Albufiera drivers luis and diago are very easy to work with. We have booked them for our day tour in the city of Algarve and they have driven and accompanied us to several places ( lagos, portimao, ponta di piedade etc). They are very professional and the vans used are clean. Our day trip was very pleasant that we have decided to hire them again to take us to seville spain. If you are looking for someone trustworthy and skilled with great customer service look no further. Luis is great. We have a big group of 14 people ( adults and kids) our experience was smooth and we had a great time. Thank you Luis and diago for making our trip to Algarve memorable

A Great Day

We had a great day exploring some beautiful places in Algarve. Our favourite spots were Sagres, Lagos and the boat tour in Ponta da Piedade :). Luis is an excellent tour guide and driver. He is very knowledgeable and fun. My 11 year old said this tour was her favourite and that’s impressive as we did several tours during our 12 days stay in Portugal. Thank you Luis for your hospitality and for an unforgettable time. We can’t wait to visit Portugal again.
