Deluxe Bordeaux Shore Excursion from Le Verdon Cruise Ship Port

Description
Designed for cruise passengers, this tour takes you from Le Verdon port to 'Little Paris'—the stunning city of Bordeaux. Known for its rich history, elegant architecture, and world-renowned vineyards, it is the heart of France’s most famous wine region. Bordeaux’s beautifully preserved old town is closed to vehicle traffic, so upon arrival, your guide will lead you on a walking tour of the city’s main sights. View the famous Cathédrale Saint-André, walk through Place de la Bourse, the city’s iconic square, and see the Water Mirror, one of Bordeaux’s most photographed spots. Stop at the Grand Théâtre, a neoclassical theater that has been a cultural hub for over 200 years. After the guided portion, you’ll have some free time to visit shops, relax at a café, or try local food. You can also join an optional wine tasting at a nearby bar for €30 per person. At the designated time, rejoin the bus for the return trip to Le Verdon, ensuring you arrive back at your cruise ship on schedule.

Itinerary
As soon as your cruise ship docks at Le Verdon port, our hosts will be waiting at the pier to assist you in boarding a comfortable, air-conditioned bus for the transfer to Bordeaux. The journey takes approximately 2 hours, following a scenic route through the French countryside. This transfer is scheduled to align with your cruise timetable, ensuring a smooth and stress-free experience. Upon arrival in Bordeaux, your local guide will meet you and begin the guided portion of your tour. As the historic center is not accessible to buses, the visit will take place entirely on foot, with in-depth commentary on the city's history, architecture, and culture.
After arriving in Bordeaux, your local guide will take you on a guided walking tour of the city's main sights. A trained professional, the guide has deep knowledge of Bordeaux’s history, architecture, and culture. Your first stop is Cathedrale Saint-André, a site central to Bordeaux’s history. This cathedral hosted royal weddings, including that of Eleanor of Aquitaine and the future King Louis VII. The guide will explain its construction phases, architectural changes, and role in the city's development. Next to the cathedral stands Pey Berland Tower, built separately to protect the main structure. Those who wish can climb it during free time for panoramic city views.
From the cathedral, you will continue on foot to Place de la Bourse, a key landmark that reflects Bordeaux’s transformation into a major trading center in the 18th century. Your guide will explain how this square was built as part of an urban renewal project that opened the city to the river, modernized trade, and introduced classical French architecture to Bordeaux. The symmetrical facades were designed to showcase the city’s wealth and power during its period of economic growth. In front of the square, the Water Mirror enhances the reflection of the buildings, creating an alternating effect between still water and mist. The guide will describe how this modern addition, installed in 2006, has become one of the most visited spots in Bordeaux, attracting visitors and photographers from around the world.
Next, the tour stops at the Grand Théâtre de Bordeaux, one of the most important cultural landmarks in the city. The guide will discuss its importance as a center for opera, theater, and ballet. The theater’s design was influenced by ancient Roman temples, with a row of Corinthian columns across the facade and sculptures representing the nine muses. It has hosted performances for over two centuries and remains a working venue today. At this point, you will have 1-1.5 hours of free time to explore the city at your own pace. You can walk through nearby shopping streets, visit cafés, or try local specialties such as canelés or fresh oysters. If you are interested in Bordeaux’s wine culture, an optional wine tasting is available at a well-known wine bar just a few minutes from where the tour ends. The tasting costs €30 per person, payable on-site, and includes a selection of Bordeaux wines with explanations from a local expert. No advance booking is required—just decide on the day.
After free time, the group will meet at a designated location for the return journey. The drive back to the port takes approximately two hours, passing through the countryside and vineyards that surround Bordeaux. This provides a chance to relax and take in the landscape before reboarding your cruise ship after a day of sightseeing.

Beautiful Bordeaux is well worth seeing but the over 2 hour bus trip each way meant that over 4 hours of a 7 hour trip was spent travelling through not specially interesting countryside Out guide Vic was excellent with enthusiasm and good English I’m in New York City
Dear Alan, Thank you for your feedback. The travel time from Le Verdon port to Bordeaux is unfortunately part of the route, and this is outlined in both the itinerary and the pre-tour communications. That said, we’re very glad to hear you enjoyed Bordeaux itself and that Vic provided an excellent guiding experience. We appreciate your comments and will continue working on making travel durations even clearer for future guests. Best regards, Natalia Vexperio
Very well organised tour, the tour guide Caroline was excellent, full commentary right from the start of the journey until we arrived. At the destination we were given earpieces which made the tour a great experience, we had free time to get lunch and wander about, returned to the ship in plenty of time before sailing.
Victor was amazing! Clearly explained the history of the place and the surprise at the end was a nice touch! The city is breathtaking.

Victor was a wonderful guide! Very knowledgeable and kind. Would definitely recommend this fairly easy walking tour to those wanting a combination of "alone" time and guided assistance in Bordeaux!
Hello! Thank you so much for sharing your feedback. It’s lovely to hear you had such a great experience in Bordeaux and that Victor made a strong impression with his knowledge and kind approach. He really enjoys finding that balance between guiding guests and still giving them space to explore on their own, so I’m sure he’ll be very happy to read this. We’re glad the pace of the tour worked well for you, and that a little free time gave you the chance to enjoy Bordeaux at your own rhythm—whether that’s picking up some souvenirs or trying some of the amazing local wine and cheese. Wishing you many more enjoyable travels ahead! Warm regards, Natalia Vexperio
Emma did a fantastic walking tour of Bordeaux. Except she said nothing to us on the two hour drive from port to Bordeaux. I’m used to tour guides giving a commentary during the drive. I’d like to have learned about each town we drove through and one item that made the town unique. I’ve had this on other tours - so I felt that this tour missed a huge opportunity. Especially for the price. By the way, you don’t go into any venue so if you want to see Cathedral and Bell Tower, you’ll want to consider a different tour. I didn’t realize this upfront and free time wasn’t sufficient to run back to tour these places.
Hello and thank you for your feedback. We are glad to hear that you enjoyed the walking tour in Bordeaux with Emma. Regarding the transfer from Le Verdon to Bordeaux, our guides do provide commentary as part of their standard procedure and training. During this part of the journey, the focus is on broader context about the region, the Médoc wine area, and France in general, rather than detailed descriptions of each small town along the route. The towns passed during the transfer are largely small, modern settlements that were heavily impacted during the Second World War and rebuilt afterwards. As such, they offer limited historical or cultural points of interest, and the commentary reflects this reality. Once in Bordeaux, the detailed city-specific guiding is intentionally provided during the walking tour itself. Regarding site visits, the tour is designed as an external guided experience of Bordeaux, with free time included. Entry into specific monuments such as the Cathedral or Bell Tower is not part of the itinerary and is described accordingly. We appreciate you sharing your expectations, and your comments are noted.
We docked and met as planned. Had a long drive through awesome small communities. When at Bordeaux we walked for 1 1/2hr on streets and sidewalks learning old histories. Our guide was profession, fun and helpful. If you don't want to walk on the uneven sidewalks for this long walk there are shops to go to and meet up.
Hello! Thank you for sharing your experience! Those little communities on the way to Bordeaux really add something special to the journey, don’t they? I’m glad you enjoyed the walk through the city and that Victor made it both fun and informative. You’re absolutely right—the old streets can be a bit uneven, which is part of their charm, and that’s why we always remind our guests to wear comfortable shoes before the tour. It’s great that there’s also flexibility to take a break and enjoy the nearby shops along the way. Warm regards, Natalia Vexperio
Great trip to Bordeaux from the Sky Princess, Victor was an excellent tour guide very knowledgeable. The wine tasting at the end was the perfect way to end the tour.
Victor was a great guide! He is very knowledgeable & his English is great. This was a shore excursion from Le Verdon. Victor walked us around the beautiful city of Bordeaux for 90 minutes then we had 90 minutes to wander around on our own. I highly recommend this tour.
It’s a great way to see the city on your own time. We were in a cruise with limited time so this was our best option. It’s quite a drive but worth seeing. Bordeaux is a gorgeous city!! The bus was very comfortable and even had a restroom in it.
Kaz was extremely knowledgeable and very thorough! Fantastic tour of Bordeaux and wine tasting! Kaz is a level 3 wine taster.
