Ilha Grande is the largest island in the state of Rio de Janeiro and the sixth largest maritime island in Brazil. The coasts of the island are cut by numerous peninsulas and inlets, forming several beaches. Among so many options, the most popular beaches/islands are Lagoa Azul, Lagoa Verde, Praia Cataguazes, Praia de Freguesia de Santana and Praia de Japariz, where we will stop for lunch.

The Cais de Santa Luzia is a complex located in the center of Angra dos Reis, considered the most traditional starting point for visitors to the islands and schooner tours.
Simple and quiet beach, it is surrounded by large rocks and preserved native forest. It's small and cozy, great for those looking for a good place to rest. With a good strip of golden sand, it has calm and transparent waters. As it is a small beach, tourists who pass by boat hardly notice the place. It is a great option to relax and take a delicious bath in the sea.
Parish of Santana is a peninsula located in Ilha Grande, coast of Rio de Janeiro, composed of 4 beaches: Freguesia, Baleia, Grumixama and Freguesia do Sul and it was there that the settlement of Ilha Grande itself began. The beach was quite inhabited in the past, but little nowadays (it is estimated that there are only 50 residents in the place, today a tourist spot), but we find remnants of the occupation in the place, such as the Church of Santana, built in 1843, considered the most important monument Ilha Grande, as well as an abandoned cemetery and several mansions, slave quarters and underground water channels. Freguesia de Santana is a private property, that is, its visitation is restricted to the sands of the beach, the area close to the churches and the trails in the region. Source: Ilha Grande
Japariz beach is a mandatory stop for participants on schooner and speedboat trips that last 1 hour. It is inhabited by a small community of fishermen and traders who maintain intense communication with the mainland, both to Angra dos Reis and to Conceição de Jacareí.
Lagoa Verde is a corner of shallow, calm, typically green waters and is one of the highlights of the northwest coast of Ilha Grande, very close to the Enseada de Araçatiba. Lagoa Verde is also a tourist nickname, like Lagoa Azul, the geographical name is Ilha da Longa. With the tide at normal or high level, the islet is separated from Ilha Grande, and when the tide is very low, they are joined by a narrow strip of sand and rocks. It is one of the few places on the planet where greenish corals are found, hence the name. The marine fauna surprises us from out of the water, in a spectacle due to the shallow depth of its transparent and calm waters.
Lagoa Azul is a natural pool with a sandy bottom, some rocks and predominantly blue water, located between two islets in the important historic region of Freguesia de Santana. The site is a geographic aggregate of Ilha dos Macacos, whose northern end is the point on Ilha Grande that is closest to the mainland. The region is beautiful with places worthy of being called paradise. It is very close to other sensational beaches, Grumixama, Baleia, Freguesia Sul and Norte. Lagoa Azul, a tourist nickname inspired by the classic movie from the 80s with actress Brooke Shieldes, is one of the most popular tourist spots on Ilha Grande.

Important Information
- Infants are required to sit on an adult’s lap
- Suitable for all physical fitness levels
- Lifeguards are available to all passengers and are intended for emergency situations only. If the customer wishes to use a life jacket for recreational purposes during the tour, an additional fee will be charged.
- The time indicated at the time of the Reservation is merely indicative. The day before the tour, we will contact via WhatsApp with the boarding details. If the boarding address is not provided, the final meeting point will be : Socialtel Lapa - Rua Visconde de Maranguape, 9.
- Lunch will not be served before the boat ride as some people may feel uncomfortable due to the movement of the boat. It will be served between 14:30 and 15:30. We recommend taking snacks and water to consume on the bus during the journey.
- The tours operate normally even in case of bad weather and are cancelled only in exceptional circumstances, when the Navy of Brazil does not authorize the departure of the boat.
- NOTE: Do not dispose of any items in the toilet (including toilet paper).
- The vessels do not operate when they are overloaded and are inspected by the Navy of Brazil. During the high season, we prioritize larger boats, always within the legal limits.
- Transport Rio - Angra dos Reis – two options: Hotel shuttle (if available for your accommodation): If you choose hotel shuttle, you will be picked up directly at your accommodation, but you will need to participate in the boarding of the other passengers. The transfer will take approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes. From the last meeting point, the journey to Angra dos Reis will take 2 hours and 45 minutes.
- Final meeting point: If you prefer to avoid the hotel transfer, you can go directly to the final meeting point by selecting Socialtel Lapa - Rua Visconde de Maranguape 9 on your Reservation. From there, the journey to Angra dos Reis will take 2 hours and 45 minutes.

It was a rainy day on the water which was unfortunate but obviously not the tour guides’ fault. However the big gaps in communication were. The tour was listed as suitable for speakers of English, Spanish, and Portuguese and online said the guides were trilingual. In reality only one of the boat’s staff, one of the many guides, spoke English. That was fine, however she did not even attempt to translate over 70% of the words spoken over the microphone in English, leaving my and my boyfriend extremely lost most a lot of the trip and feeling left out of the fun. Important info like the bus number to board and which restaurant to enter for lunch were not announced in English, leaving us scrambling to figure out where to go. The final stop for swimming was skipped to due rainy weather and this was also not announced in English, leaving us surprised when we returned to land early. It was very frustrating since our guide spoke great English, but just didn’t translate out of laziness? I wouldn’t recommend this tour if you don’t speak Spanish or Portuguese

It was exactly as advertised. We found the day very long due to the almost 6 hours of bus travel time. The guide was great, lots of energy.

The water was a beautiful color and quite warm. The blue lagoon had a lot of fish swimming right around you. You were able to rent a snorkel and mask. A photographer could take your picture in the water with the fish. Although we chose an English tour we were the only English people. The guide tried to explain somethings for us but usually spoke in Portuguese.

The paradise islands are beautiful, especially Cataguas and Isla dentist, its waters are warm and fascinating colors, do not miss the tour of paradise islands. On dentist island you can see the fish without snorkeling equipment, if you have it much better!
