Damnoen Saduak Floating Market in Ratchaburi is one of the most popular floating markets in Thailand. The canal was built on royal initiative as King Rama IV of Thailand wanted to link the Mae Klong River with Chinese river ways to support transportation and trade. It took over 2 years to dig, and was eventually finished under the reign of his successor King Rama V. The canal is 32 kilometers long and has more than 200 branches.Damnoen Saduak Floating Market’s popularity grew to new heights in 1971 – 1973 when the river was full of farmers on their boats selling their wares. And that is the way trade is performed in this area until todays.

Gang our tour guide was wonderful, friendly, kind and went above and beyond to be helpful. I did not have Thai currency so she asked the driver if he could help and he actually got cash for me. It was unexpected and very much appreciated. I also felt safe and cared for because I got lost and she was so patient about the delay it caused.

Definitely worth seeing if you are in Bangkok. Tanya our Guide was great, friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. Visit to the train market was impressive- also very friendly stall holders who were not pushy with some bargains to be had. Loved seeing how quickly stall holders moved everything for the train passing through. Floating market was nice to see, but incredibly overpriced if you want to buy anything. Great coconut ice cream though! I would have preferred more time at the train market, and less at the floating market.

Unfortunately, it was raining, but it was nice to be cool. It was fun to be able to go to a place where I couldn't go alone. The rowboat was also tasteful and had an interesting experience.
