After we have met, we will drive to the city of Salzburg or other areas of interest such as the Lake District, Hallstatt, or the Eagle's Nest (from May 15 to 31 October). We can always customize your itinerary on the day. Everything is possible. Salzburg City Option - UNESCO, World Heritage Site since 1996, located on the northwest side of Austria, 424 meters (1391 ft) above sea level and with a population of approximately 150.000 people, Salzburg is today the 4th biggest city in the country. In this tour, you will have the possibility of exploring the old town. Your private guide will point out to you the points of interest to make sure you don’t miss any gems. To explore the city, the time for this stop, will be according to the wishes of the traveler.
Sound of Music Option - Explore Salzburg and Lake District by following the tracks of the world famous musical “The Sound of Music”. A professional guide will take you on this private excursion. Showing you all the movie’s locations that really interest you. This personalized luxury tour is designed to give you the flexibility to pick and choose the venues, including where to go for lunch.
Eagles Nest & Bavarian Alps Option - You tour guide will join you on your journey up to the Eagle’s Nest. You will board specially build Busses to drive up the Eagle’s Nest Road, voted one of the most beautiful mountain roads of Europe. This 20 minute bus ride takes us to the bus parking which is located 124 meters below the Eagle’s Nest. We then walk 124 meters in to a tunnel that gives access to the historical elevator. This will take us in to the house itself where your guide will explain how everything was furnished and used during the Third Reich. After this detailed exclusive information, you will have time to explore more of the location. You can walk up to the top of the mountain for pictures and maybe have a refreshment on the sun terrace. There you will enjoy 360 degrees of breathtaking Eagle eye views over the Bavarian alps. If you chose to visit this attraction a stop will be made to explore according to the wishes of the traveler.
Hallstatt Option - Experience the beauty of the Austrian Lake District, including the UNESCO World Heritage site of Hallstatt, the pearl of the Salzkammergut, on this private luxury tour. Drive along the emerald-green Fuschlsee and stop at its castle; take a picture from a great view point above the town of St Gilgen, where Mozart’s mother was born. Pass by the town of Bad Ischl, the former summer residence of the emperor Franz Josef. You will have 1.5hours to explore Hallstatt, where you can visit all the hidden gems and must-sees, and enjoy 7000 years of history.

This Private Tour is definitely worth the money for its flexibility and ease of customization! Our awesome, funny and friendly guide Carlos picked us up in a newer Mercedes van which was super comfortable. We got to travel on the AutoBahn and he asked us what we wanted to see. We went to the WWII historical Eagles Nest and Carlos knew all the shortcuts to avoid us standing in lines. He also knew his history and came prepared with extra photos on his tablet. Next, we went to the Sound of Music movie locations and gave us a lot of info on his tablet, showing us the exact movie clips at the locations where we were. That was totally cool! We then went to Salzburg and explored the city a bit on our own, with Carlos first driving us around and providing some highlights. When my husband said he wanted to try fresh milk, Carlos went out of his way to take us to a small village and get my husband milk that had been in a cow 2 hours earlier. We had the best time on this tour and highly recommend it for people who want more flexibility than the usual river cruise ship tours provide.
Michael picked us up right of the ship. He took us on scenic route to Salzburg with a stop at the top of the mountain for a great view of Salzburg. Then we got a Sound Of Music themed tour where a lot of the scenes were filmed including the church from the wedding scene on the way back to the ship. It was a most spectacular day!
On May 13, 2026 Carlos gave 4 of us a private tour of all the sound of music movie scenes, filled with information. There were several other attractions that he added along the way. At the end, Viking changed our docking location at the last minute and Carlos quickly adjusted our trip and delivered us to the new location and help other Viking tavelers with another tour group. . Carlos is one of the best tour guides we have ever had. We wish we could rate him more than 5 stars.

Our tour guide Carlos was AMAZING! When we told him we did not want to do the sound of music tour but was on our list, he instantly had a suggestion for our itinerary that even included a few other things we did not know about (including a stop at the Silent Night Church market...so special) and a trip up the mountain to see the Alps. Carlos was super informative and full of GREAT suggestions. He was an exceptional tour guide and total professional. We were on a river cruise and although I made sure to send our location information in advance, he followed up with the cruise company! I cannot recommend this tour enough. If you are looking for something special for a day - DO THIS! Our entire group said it was one of the highlights of our entire trip!

Carlos was an outstanding guide—knowledgeable, personable, and a delight to spend the day with. While on our Viking River Cruise, we took a day trip from Passau to Salzburg, and he showed us hidden gems we never would have found on our own or with a large group. The return drive through the countryside was the perfect finish. Salzburg is a charming town, and this was truly one of our favorite days of the trip. Highly recommend booking with Carlos!

THIS is the way to really experience Salzburg! Carlos took 6 of us from our river cruise ship in Passau to Salzburg. From the Autoban to the beautiful winding roads we were able to see the Alps, the gorgeous lakes and the Sound of Music highlights much better than on a tour bus. Carlos was a wonderful host, great driver and shared so much culture, local customs and a fabulous local restaurant lunch with us. It was the highlight of our 2 week European river cruise.
