Standing magnificently at the heart of Saigon is the Saigon Opera House, which is also known as the Municipal Theater. The building stands as one of the impressive sight in Saigon – both night and day. Saigon Opera House was built in 1898 by the French architect – Eugene Ferret, following the “flamboyant” style of the French Third Republic. It was set to be two meters higher than the street surface with two door layers, in order to prevent traffic noise. Located on the city’s center axis, connecting the metro station and roundabout in front of Ben Thanh market. From a distance, the Opera House looks like a beautiful gigantic city gate. The architecture boasts stone-carved ornaments and statues at the entrance, crystal chandeliers, and shiny granite floor at the lobby area – all built with materials imported from France. The graceful oval auditorium offers 468 seats, designed to magnify performances in both audio and visual, echo-free, and also soundproof from the outside city buzz.
Explore one of the relics from one of the most significant local historical events in recent memory. Initial construction started in 1948 when the Viet Minh required somewhere to hide from French air attacks, and by 1965, the tunnel complex was estimated to consist of 200 km of tunnels. It included, hospitals, schools, meeting rooms, kitchens, and sleeping quarters. Life was difficult for the inhabitants, and to protect against outside intruders, booby traps were laid throughout the complex. You will learn more about the conditions the people lived in, the hardships they faced, and the amazing ingenuity employed to maintain life in the tunnels. We walk past huge bomb craters - evidence of the heavy bombing campaigns in the region during the Indochina conflict, discover hidden entrances right beneath your feet, wander past tiny little chimneys in the ground that dispersed smoke from the underground kitchens, fighters would have survived on, and have an exploration the complex.

Wonderful full day tour of the Cu Chi tunnels and Mekong Delta. Great value! Lucy was an excellent guide! He picked us up on time at our hotel and tailored the day to our wishes. He stopped for coffee when we asked and we learned a lot of history of Vietnam. He answered our many questions and was easy to talk to the whole day. Luc was personable and made our day memorable!
We had a great day visiting the must do Cu Chi tunnels, and Mekong Delta with Casey. Appreciated the early morning pick up so we beat the crowds. Casey was fantastic and enhancing our experience with all kinds of information and was lovely and funny to spend the day with. Car was clean and the AC worked great. It is a lot of car time but think it’s best to knock out both in one day. Being on a private tour allowed lots of engagement with Casey and flexibility to move at our own pace. The Mekong Delta portion does get a little touristy, but we learned a lot.
Wonderful day! All around great tour. Casey was a great guide, super fun and very informative. We would 100% spend the day with her again. Pickup was on time, very comfortable vehicle. Huge plus! We never had to wait at any part of the day. Multiple locations and I would highly recommend doing this tour. You will learn a lot, enjoy the day, and always be on time.
We had an incredible experience exploring the Chu Chi Tunnels and the Mekong Delta, thanks to our amazing tour guide Luna. Her knowledge of the history, culture, and local traditions was outstanding, and she shared fascinating stories that brought each location to life. At the Chu Chi Tunnels, Luna provided detailed explanations about the historical significance of the site, making the visit both educational and moving. We truly appreciated the way she made history so accessible and engaging. The Mekong Delta portion was equally unforgettable. From the serene boat ride to visiting the local villages, everything was well-organized, and we felt immersed in the beauty and culture of the region. Our guide ensured we were comfortable and even helped us try local delicacies, which added a special touch to the experience. Overall, the tour was seamless, enjoyable, and informative. Our guide’s enthusiasm and professionalism made the trip a highlight of our visit to Vietnam. Highly recommend!

This private tour to the Cu Chi Tunnels and Mekong Delta was amazing. Our guide, Sonia, was knowledgeable and made the history of the tunnels come alive. The Mekong Delta part was beautiful, with a peaceful boat ride and visits to local villages. Highly recommended for a rich and immersive experience in Vietnam. Ps: We were offered extra time and visits to more destinations for free. For example, the tour guide drove us to a newly development part on District 2 to have a closer look of the city from across the river. He spent the free extra 30’ to explain the history of Districts 1 and 2!!
