Itinerary
Our first stop immerses you in the spiritual heart of Kyoto. Prepare to be mesmerized by the iconic 'Senbon Torii' - a seemingly endless pathway lined with thousands of vibrant red gates that snake up the sacred Mt. Inari. Walk through this breathtaking tunnel, a symbol of prayers for prosperity, and capture unforgettable photos. Your guide will explain the history and significance of this important shrine dedicated to the Shinto god of rice and business.
Step back into the era of the samurai rulers at Nijo Castle, a magnificent UNESCO World Heritage site. Explore the stunning Ninomaru Palace, the former residence of the Tokugawa Shogun. Admire the opulent architecture, intricate carvings, and beautiful gold-leaf paintings designed to display absolute power. Listen carefully as you walk across the famous 'nightingale floors' – a clever security system that chirps to warn of intruders.
Prepare to be dazzled by one of Kyoto's most iconic sights: Kinkaku-ji, the Golden Pavilion. This stunning Zen Buddhist temple is covered in brilliant gold leaf, creating a breathtaking spectacle. Weather permitting, capture the famous picture-perfect reflection of the pavilion in the mirror pond below. We'll stroll through the beautiful, meticulously maintained surrounding garden as your guide shares the history of this unique architectural gem.

Excellent collection of important sites to visit in Kyoto: Buddist temple, Shinto Shrine and Shogun castle. Gino Litian Luo was a great guide. Many thanks to Gino for his attention to detail.
Thank you! Yes, we craft the tour with that in mind - to maximize your understanding of the Kyoto culture
The experience was fantastic. We learned about the history of shoguns and emperors. It was a great day.
Thank you for your feedback! There's a lot more to learn in Kyoto and around!
After having taken this tour I cant imagine doing Kyoto any other way! Tom got to know our interests for the tour ahead of time and really studied up so that he could customize the tour to what we were looking to do, making sure to get the big ticket items in as well. He took us all around the town, where I felt we were constantly beating the crowds and never on our feet for too long. He even stayed a little bit longer just to make sure that we had time to view the zen buddhist rock garden in Kyoto as well. One thing that I think you will not get anywhere else is a guide who is so good at taking photos! He was constantly making sure that we got the best pictures we could while we were on our tour and has definitely made sure that we have good, lasting memories of this tour in particular. If we come back, we might make Tom take us on a food tour of the city as well! Seriously well done tour and I dont think you can go wrong if you book this!
Natsume was a very prompt and pleasant person to shepherd us to the different locations. This NOT a guided tour though where you will get local and historical insights.
We had an amazing time experiencing Fushimi Inari, Nijo and Kinkaku-ji. It was great seeing Fushimi Inari in all of its glory before it got very crowded. Tom was our guide and he was impeccably wonderful! His expertise of the cultural history of Kyoto, very positive vibes and enthusiastic energy made the tour very enjoyable. Great job, Tom and thank you for taking care of us!
Thank you so much for the "Highly Recommended" review! We are thrilled to hear that you had an amazing time and appreciated seeing Fushimi Inari in all its glory before the crowds arrived—that is exactly why we love the early morning tour! We are also delighted by your kind words for Tom. He will be so happy to hear that his cultural expertise and "positive vibes" made your experience "impeccably wonderful." Thank you for letting us take care of you!
We had an excellent experience on this tour. This tour is I think perfect if you wanna see Kyoto's most famous spots in one efficient day. especially, the tour on fushimi-inari was so exciting. There were approximately one thousand red torii (tbh,it's much more lol) and walked thorough under of them.It def made me tired but I'll never forget that view from the top of there and the price of water bottle on the top (It's 300yen even only for common 500mL water bottle in the vending machine lol)
Thank you for the fantastic "Must-Do Tour" title! Wow, you made it all the way to the top of Fushimi Inari! Congratulations, we know it's a climb! We are so happy you got to see that "unforgettable view." And yes, the 300 yen water (lol)... Thank you for sharing that sense of accomplishment and the "price" that only those who make it to the top get to experience! We are honored that you felt our tour was a perfect and efficient way to see Kyoto. Thank you for this wonderful review.

Kyoto truly feels like the "soul" of Japan. I stayed for five days, but it wasn't nearly enough time! The entire city feels like a living museum; everywhere I walked, there were beautiful temples and preserved old streets. It was incredibly calming, and I felt as though time flowed much slower here compared to Tokyo—it was a real mental reset. My absolute favorite spot was Arashiyama, famous for its bamboo grove. I went early in the morning, and the sight of the light filtering through the towering stalks was absolutely mystical, like being inside a fantasy movie. The beauty is something photos simply cannot capture. Of course, the famous Kinkaku-ji (Golden Pavilion) is a must-see. I visited on a sunny day, and the reflection of the golden structure in the pond was truly breathtaking. It gave me a strong sense of the power of Japanese history and art. Strolling through the old Gion district was another wonderful experience. I stopped for some delicious Matcha green tea and traditional Japanese sweets at one of the small shops along the cobblestone paths. My Japanese is still a work in progress, but the staff were so kind, using gestures and simple English to help me out. I was incredibly touched by the Japanese spirit of Omotenashi (hospitality). I mainly used the public buses for transportation. At times they were quite crowded, but buying the One-day Pass made things incredibly convenient—even when I got a little lost, I could just hop on the next bus. With a map app and the pass, I think any first-time tourist can navigate the city easily. Kyoto is a place I would wholeheartedly recommend to everyone in the world. If you want to feel the authentic, historical heart of Japan, this is where you need to be. Next time, I plan to stay longer, perhaps during the cherry blossom or autumn leaves season!
