Cooking Class: Make a Local Delicacy in a Japanese House

Description
'Dango noodle soup' is made by kneading wheat or rice flour with water, letting it rest for a while, then stretching and shaping the dough by hand before adding it to the broth. It's a hearty, wholesome dish made with local, seasonal vegetables such as 'taro' potato and burdock, and is seasoned with either miso or soy sauce. This is the only cooking class available in Beppu hosted within a century-old Japanese house - a truly 'local' experience!

Mari and Una were tremendous. So good to spend the time chatting with them. Many laughs shared. Very good.
This cooking class in Beppu was one of the most memorable parts of our trip to Japan. Everyone was so kind, and our translator was incredibly sweet and helpful throughout. The food we made was delicious, and the whole process was fun and easy to follow. In the building, there’s a lovely shop upstairs that features local art from different artists, a great touch that made the experience even more special. If you are visiting Beppu, this place is full of great memories and truly kind-hearted people.
Thank you so much for your beautiful message! We’re so happy to hear that the cooking class became one of your favorite memories in Japan. Our team and translator will be thrilled to know you enjoyed both the food and the warm atmosphere. We’re also glad you took time to explore the local art upstairs. Hope to welcome you back to Beppu someday! 😊
We had a great time making a local soup, dangojiru. It was really tasty. Our hosts, Mari-san and Aya-san, were super nice and fun to talk to. I highly recommend this cooking workshop of you’re in the Beppu area!

Dango Soup cooking class, absolutely WONDERFUL. The guy at Space Beppu sent a cab for us when we couldn't find one getting off the cruise ship. We went to a historic house, made the wonderful noodles and the soup, ate it. Then he called us another cab sent us to the Monkey Park, the cab waited and returned us to the Ship. What a fabulous day!
Thank you so much for your fantastic review! We’re delighted to hear you had a wonderful dayn from the Dango Soup cooking class to the visits and smooth cab arrangements. It’s great that our team could help make your experience seamless and memorable. We hope to welcome you back for more fabulous adventures!
Warm hospitality of Masa and his female assistant made the experience authentic and memorable. Masa-san was flexible in visiting another market when he knew we’ve been to the original market he wanted to bring us. Along the way he pointed out street landmarks and shared what it was in the past versus present. The pace and explanation of cooking were comfortable and clear.
Thank you for your wonderful feedback! We’re glad our hospitality made your experience authentic and memorable. We’re happy the pace and explanations felt comfortable and clear. We hope to welcome you back for more enjoyable experiences soon!
This was one of the BEST culinary experiences we’ve had and we do culinary experiences all over the world. The location in the 100+year old house was really nice and the little local crafts area was fabulous! The lady who led the class was great but the coordinator was absolutely amazing! We had trouble getting a taxi so he sent us one, afterwards he arranged a trip to the monkey park for us. We would keep in touch with him!
Thank you so much for your fantastic review! We’re thrilled to hear that this was one of your best culinary experiences worldwide. We’re glad our team, especially the coordinator, could make your day smoother and more memorable. Looking forward to welcoming you back and staying in touch!
After cooking the ramen we ate it at the table together, it was very fun and delicious! We also made Tamagoyaki which was very fun rolling and came out very good. When I came back to Italy I brought a squared pan with me to keep making Tamagoyaki by my own. I always think about the cooking class experience every time I make them.
Thank you so much for sharing your lovely experience! We’re thrilled you had fun cooking and enjoyed the tamagoyaki so much that you brought a special pan all the way back to Italy! It’s wonderful to hear our cooking class stays in your heart every time you make it. Hope to welcome you again for more delicious memories!
