I took the cooking class with Karla. I was the only person, so my experience may not be exactly as yours will be. Karla did most of the cooking, it was like I was a guest in her home and she was just cooking in her kitchen as we chatted. I helped a little bit. I am sure if I had shown more interest in doing the food preparation and cooking that would’ve happened. What I really enjoyed is that there is nothing special about the class. What I mean, is you are not is a special kitchen in a school. You are in Karla’s home in her kitchen using her regular pots and pans that made it feel like visiting an old friend in Brasil than something formal. The biggest downside is she lives quite a ways outside of the city - about 30-40 minute uber ride from Pelourinho, but it was worth it. If you want something that feels natural and authentic and not rehearsed or commercial then this is for you.
It was a great experience, felt like I was being taught how to cook by family! Highly recommend.
Really great experience. The host is very flexible and knowledgeable. Highly recommend. Your going to eat a lot of food so come hungry.
Karla thank you for taking the time to show me how to cook traditional dishes. The tour of the Vermelho Market had a lot of great items. It was nice to be able to purchase the items I was to learn to prepare.
Market tour and cooking class with Karla was absolutely amazing. I went on my own I felt comfortable and taken care of the whole time. I would definitely recommend this experience to everyone including solo travelers!
We had such an incredible experience with Karla! She gave us a wonderful tour through the local market, sharing so much knowledge about local food, culture and daily life in Brazil. Her charm and enthusiasm made the entire experience feel personal and authentic. The highlight was being welcomed into her home, where she taught us how to prepare an absolutely amazing Brazilian meal. Everything was delicious, and the cooking lesson was both fun and hands-on. She created such a warm atmosphere that it felt like spending time with a friend rather than being on a tour. If you’re looking for a genuine cultural experience filled with great food, hospitality, and unforgettable memories, I cannot recommend Karla’s class enough!
A very relaxing afternoon with wonderful food, many cooking tips, and unobtrusive, interesting conversations.
A great day spent with Carla who picked us up from our hotel, took us round a local market, then made us feel so welcome in her home, teaching us all about local cuisine and culture. She was so friendly and couldn’t do enough for us. It felt like we’d spent the day chatting, drinking and eating with a friend. Such a fun day. We highly recommend the activity!
Karla was very accommodating and nice and I had an amazing experice
We had a great time shopping in the market, and learning about traditional Bahian food!
