Sri Kailasanathar Swami Devasthanam (temple) is located behind the Colombo fort railway station. There are some other names for this temple such as Captain’s Garden Hindu Temple, Kapikaawatha Shivan temple. Many believes this is the oldest Hindu temple in Colombo. Its history date back to 17th century. Though the buildings here are not that old it is very impressive to see its classic architecture and sculpture. This colorful Buddhist temple which has a history of 120 years is the most visited temple in Colombo. Viharamahadevi Park (formerly Victoria Park) is a public park located in Cinnamon Gardens, Colombo, situated in front of the colonial-era Town Hall in Sri Lanka. It was built by the British colonial rulers and is the oldest and largest park of Colombo. The park was originally named "Victoria Park" after Queen Victoria but was renamed after Queen Viharamahadevi, who was a Sri Lankan queen. Independence Memorial Hall is situated in the Independence Square (formerly Torrington Square) at Colombo 7 in the Cinnamon Gardens, this Hall was built for the commemoration of the independence from British in 1940s. The monument was built at the location where the formal ceremony marking the start of self-rule, with the opening of the first parliament by Prince Henry, Duke of Gloucester occurred at a special podium February 4, 1948. This Hall is designed on the architecture of the Magul Maduwa. (meeting hall of last king of Sri Lanka) located in Kandy.
