The castle is surrounded by a moat of water and is famous for its Renaissance architecture, its park designed by André Le Nôtre and for housing the Condé Museum, one of the most important art collections in France after the Louvre.
The phrase “pick up anywhere in Paris” is not true. They only will pick up at predetermined locations, usually at a hotel. The “closest” hotel they would pick us up was completely across the city and took us 50 minutes by cab to get to. Incredibly inconvenient, especially for the price we had to pay for a driver. The driver was very nice and his car was beautiful but what a hassle to get the tour to Chantilly started.
Our driver was wonderful: very accommodating and full of information about Paris and life in France in general. When we told him the castle cafe was closed, Susan brought us to the town Chantilly where we could pick from several food venues so we were delighted to have authentic desserts with authentic Chantilly creme. And the castle gardens and museums were magnificent! We saw the famous manuscript the Tres Riches Heures, my personal highlight, and my family enjoyed the Living Horse museum and equitation exhibition (warning: it’s in French:). Definitely something for everyone!
The trip was outstanding and the driver was very professional and courteous. Highly recommend this trip
