We had a great experience at the Cairns Aquarium. We followed the 4 consecutive presentations from the start to the finish. Each presentation very professionally delivered with a few hints of humour and sarcasm, all very well done. We then headed back to the start to experience all the other exhibits. Highly recommended.
We would highly recommend visiting this Aquarium. Exact value for money. The route is really well planned so you do not miss a thing and there is plenty of space for everyone. Very informative signage all the way through. We saw some amazing creatures close up and especially loved the shark tunnel! Great for all ages.
Thank you Heather for this great five star review! We are very pleased to hear you had a wonderful time exploring the cairns Aquarium! We hope we can welcome you back again soon!
I read a few negative reviews here but I don’t see why. We spent about 1.5 hours in there. The kids like pressing the buttons. It’s easy to find 10% off the tickets. Wished they put the A/C a little colder. Good for a rainy day and plenty of parking outside (you can find it free)
Thank you for your review! We are very pleased to hear you enjoyed your visit!
Cairns Aquarium was a great way to spend the morning, especially if weather is rainy like it was for my Wife and I. The range of fauna was extensive, covering multiple different biomes. We really enjoyed the education talks which took place during the day, added to the experience! My only suggestion would be if these could be more staggered, so it is possible to view the aquarium and attend more/ all of them. Have read reviews saying this experience only takes forty minutes and we couldn’t disagree more. If interested in the exhibits and happy to listen to the talks this will easily fill in a morning or more!
Thank you for leaving us a five star review! We are very pleased to hear that you and your wife enjoyed your visit with us! 🐠
Excellent experience, Turtle hospital was well worth the visit. Lots of information and plenty to look at.
Thank you for leaving us a five star review and thank you for supporting our non for profit sea turtle hospital! 🐢
The aquarium is very good and great that it is focuses on animals which live in Far North Queensland only, so the experience is unique and provides lots of information on the creatures across the state. We did enjoy one good talk from a staff member. We did at first try to attend on a wet day during school holidays and the lineup was huge, out the door, so we decided not to go in and come back another day when it was much quieter. My issue is more with the cost, it cost $221 for 5 of us to attend which is expensive for a couple of hours, also my daughter was super eager to see a sea turtle however you cannot see a sea turtle as part of the regular aquarium experience and something which can only be seen by paying extra to attend the turtle rehab area which was out of our price range following the entry cost.
Thank you for leaving us a review we are very pleased to hear that you enjoyed your visit with us! The Cairns Turtle Rehabilitation centre is a non for profit organisation which relies completely on donations from ticket sales to operate! The Cairns Aquarium is also privately owned and operated which means that we are supported by admission sales! We have over 80 staff in both front and back of house positions that take care of all departments including the husbandry of over 16 000 animals! We appreciate each and everyone of our guests who chose to visit us and aid in our mission of conservation through education! 🐢
Buying the ticket via Tripadvisor is a breeze and I also used Tripadvisor cash so it was a great value to it. The amazing tunnel under the big aquarium takes you to a world of wonder. It feels like you are in the water and watching all the creatures were swimming by without getting in the water. Watching penguins swimming doesn’t get you bored. No dolphin show or seal shows so it takes a few hours there, enjoy lunch at the restaurant inside and go another activity elsewhere. Good activity on rainy day.
Thank you for your five star review
Cairns Aquarium was okay. It only took us an hour to get through the whole place, which felt pretty quick for what we were expecting considering the price. We had pre-booked tickets, but still had to line up for about 30 minutes to get in, which was frustrating. There were four counters open, but only one staff member handling pre-booked tickets, so it kind of defeated the purpose of booking ahead. Inside, it was nice enough, Lizards were a highlight, but we were expecting more tropical fish and something a bit more unique given it’s on the Great Barrier Reef doorstep, but it honestly felt pretty similar to most other aquariums.
Thank you for leaving a review, pre purchased tickets are not a guarantee to be processed after they are just an alternative way to purchase tickets to the aquarium. On harsh weather days we experience an influx of guests and we appreciate when everyone is patient with our staff. The Cairns Aquarium in the most unique aquarium within Australia and only displays native species. All of the 16 000 animals that we have within our facility are found within this region of northern Australia some being endemic and only found within secluded regions! We are home to the largest freshwater aquarium in Australia and the tallest deep reef tank within the southern hemisphere! We appreciate you visiting
We thoroughly enjoyed our visit. Although it did seem a little pricey, it was definitely worth it. The one way system meant we didn’t miss anything.

Beautiful. Very knowledgeable staff. Fantastic educational talks. Definitely an amazing Aquarium. Too expensive though.
