Itinerary

180 min

After a safe and scenic drive from Paris to northern Belgium, you’ll arrive in the medieval centre of Bruges, a UNESCO World Heritage Site famous for its canals, cobbled streets and beautifully preserved Flemish façades. Follow your guide on a walking tour through the old town before enjoying free time to explore on your own, have lunch and discover the city at your own pace.

Admission included30 min

Enjoy a canal cruise, offering the best views of Bruges’ medieval façades and most iconic photo spots (every day from April to October). In winter, the cruise is replaced by a visit to the Gothic Hall of the Town Hall, and the city transforms into a magical setting with Christmas lights, markets and festive decorations.

30 min

Visit Market Square, the lively heart of Bruges, lined with colourful guild houses, cafés and bustling terraces. It’s one of the best places to feel the city’s everyday rhythm, from passing locals and visitors to horse-drawn carriages and open-air cafés.

Admission not included5 min

Then turn your eyes to the Belfry, the tower that dominates the square and once served as Bruges’ main watchtower and symbol of power. Your guide will point out its key features and share stories about its role in medieval life, as well as show you where to find some of the most famous fry stands (frietkoten) if you’d like to try authentic Belgian fries.

Admission not included20 min

A peaceful complex of whitewashed houses and a quiet green courtyard founded in 1245. Once home to Beguines – independent laywomen who lived a devout but unmarried life – it is now inhabited by Benedictine nuns and a few Bruges women. Your guide will explain the history of the beguinage and why it is part of UNESCO’s protected heritage. It’s an oasis of calm just a short walk from the canals and one of the most atmospheric places in Bruges.

10 min

Stop at Rozenhoedkaai, one of the most photographed viewpoints in Bruges, where canals, façades, trees and bridges form a perfect postcard scene. From here you can really understand why Bruges is called the “Venice of the North.”

10 min

Then continue towards the Lake of Love (Minnewater), a romantic lake with swans and historic buildings that once formed the old harbour of medieval Bruges. Both spots are ideal moments for photos and for simply soaking up the city’s atmosphere before or after your free time.

Relaxing in Bruges

Our guided trip to Bruges was outstanding. Our guide was knowledgeable, engaging, and made the long drive enjoyable with easy and pleasant conversation. He also shared interesting information about the city’s historic landmarks, which added valuable context to the visit. As we had just come from Paris, we chose to spend our time in Bruges simply strolling, relaxing, and enjoying great food and local beverages. He provided excellent recommendations for dining, chocolate shops, local beer, and waffles. We followed all of his suggestions, and each one exceeded our expectations—his recommendations were truly spot on. We would gladly book another guided tour with him in the future.

Bait and switch

Very misleading. 9 of us including the driver were in a small cramped minivan. It was a very long way to travel in a small vehicle. We were lead to believe it would be a coach. Very uncomfortable and only one usb to charge 9 phones. We were not offered champagne or Belgium chocolate. Bruges is a gem of a town though.

Operator response

Dear Suzanne, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We are sorry to hear that the transportation did not meet your expectations and that you found the journey uncomfortable. Our excursion is operated in a minivan, as indicated in the tour description, and we regret if this was not sufficiently clear when making your booking. We understand that the length of the journey can make comfort particularly important and are sorry that the vehicle did not provide the experience you were expecting. We are also sorry if the amenities mentioned did not match your expectations. Your comments have been noted and will help us review the clarity of the information provided to our guests. We are nevertheless pleased to hear that you enjoyed discovering Bruges and found it to be such a beautiful destination. It truly is one of the most charming cities in Belgium. Should you wish to discuss your experience further, please feel free to contact us at info@francetourisme.fr We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you again on another excursion, such as our Loire Valley Castles tour or our Champagne region day trip, and provide you with a more satisfying experience. Kind regards, Alice de France Tourisme

A great day in Bruges!

Our guide Remy was wonderful and gave us great insight on where to go for a delicious lunch. The boat ride was so fun and make sure you have your cameras ready for some beautiful pictures of the city. Yes it is a long day of driving, but definitely a great experience!

Go to Bruges…on your own.

Bruges itself was absolutely lovely and well worth visiting. The canal tour was a highlight, and the city is charming, walkable, and full of character. Unfortunately, I would not recommend visiting through Viator. The drive was stressful due to the guide’s erratic driving, and the “guided tour” consisted mostly of very basic commentary with no historical or cultural information. The guide also arrived late, and there were several moments where she seemed unprepared. If I were to do it again, I would take the train and hire a local guide in Bruges. The train is faster and more relaxing, and exploring with a knowledgeable local guide would have made for a much better experience while allowing more flexibility to enjoy the city at my own pace.

Operator response

Dear Kristin, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We are pleased to hear that you enjoyed discovering Bruges and that you appreciated the city's charm, walkable streets, and beautiful canal tour. Bruges is indeed a remarkable destination, and we are glad that these aspects of the day left you with positive memories. However, we are sorry to learn that certain elements of the excursion did not meet your expectations. We take comments regarding the quality of the guiding experience, punctuality, and driving comfort very seriously. Very disappointing.

Was to be English speaking. First hour on bus - continuous Spanish. Late arriving at location so walk to boat was faster than some (I) could handle. I thought boat driver jokes were inappropriate. Included champagne and chocolate were never provided. One of tour leaders recognized the swift walking issue and slowed down the walk back to the bus.

Operator response

Dear Pamela, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We are sorry to learn that your experience did not fully meet your expectations. We understand your disappointment regarding the language used during part of the journey, the pace of the walk to the boat, and the absence of the champagne and chocolates that were expected as part of the experience. We also regret that some comments made during the boat ride did not align with your expectations. Please be assured that we take such feedback seriously and continuously work with our partners and teams to maintain the quality of service our guests expect. At the same time, we are pleased to hear that one of our tour leaders recognized the difficulty caused by the walking pace and adapted accordingly on the return journey. We will be sure to share your kind remarks with our team. Your comments are valuable and help us improve our services. Should you wish to discuss your experience further, please do not hesitate to contact us at info@francetourisme.fr We hope to have the opportunity to welcome you again on a future excursion, perhaps to Mont Saint-Michel or the Loire Valley Castles, for a more enjoyable experience. Kind regards, Alice de France Tourisme

Guide never showed up

This place is a total ripoff!!! We waited for over an hour and the guide never showed up, and we were told that the tour had been cancelled. We requested a refund but are still waiting. This is unacceptable and people should avoid this company at all costs!!!

Operator response

Dear Matthew, Thank you for sharing your feedback. We are truly sorry for the disappointment caused by the cancellation of your tour and we completely understand your frustration. Unfortunately, on this occasion, the guide assigned to your tour became suddenly ill and was unable to conduct the visit as planned. Despite our efforts, we were not able to find a replacement guide in time, which led to the cancellation of the experience. We sincerely regret the inconvenience this situation caused during your stay in Paris. Regarding your refund request, our team is processing it as quickly as possible. If you still have not received confirmation, please do not hesitate to contact us directly at info@francetourisme.fr so we can personally follow up on your file. We hope we may have the opportunity to welcome you again in better circumstances for another experience, such as a Seine cruise by night or an excursion to Versailles, both highly appreciated by our guests. Kind regards, Alice de France Tourisme
