Itinerary
We head off for Bronte Country, with your Tour Guide telling you about the history and features of the area as you cross Marston Moor, pass through the traditional market town of Wetherby and see the spectacular Arthington Viaduct over the River Wharfe.
Our first stop is at the Bingley Five Rise Locks where you will see the highest Staircase Lock in the UK, a spectacular feat of engineering constructed in 1774 as part of the Leeds and Liverpool Canal. You can explore and photograph the working locks, or just enjoy a leisurely Yorkshire Brew and soak up the local atmosphere in the nearby cafe – the choice is yours!
We leave Bingley for the short journey to our main stop at Haworth, on the edge of the rugged Pennine Moors, where the Bronte family lived from 1820 and the sisters wrote their famous novels, for a two-hour stopover lunchtime. You can visit the Bronte Parsonage Museum and the Bronte Memorial Chapel in the nearby Church where their father preached, or just explore the quaint shops on the cobbled main street and have a leisurely lunch in one of the traditional cafes – the choice is yours!
We leave Haworth and head up Penistone Hill for a photo stop to admire the moorland views towards Top Withens, where the Bronte Sisters walked to gain inspiration before we head north for our afternoon in the Yorkshire Dales National Park.
You will arrive in the picturesque, traditional Dales village of Linton, where we will stop for photographs of Linton Falls before continuing our journey through the National Park.
The main afternoon stop is at Bolton Abbey, where entry is free and you will be able to explore the Priory Church and ruins of the 12th Century Augustinian Priory in its beautiful riverside setting, or maybe take the stepping stones challenge if you are feeling more adventurous!
We leave Bolton Abbey to continue our journey through the Dales back towards York, passing through Harrogate and learning a bit about the history of this famous spa town.

The sceneries of Yorkshire dales are spectacular! We all enjoyed the trip tremendously. Mark, our excellent driver and tour guide, was very dedicated. He made extra efforts to maximize what we could see during the 8-hour tour. Absolutely worthwhile!
Thank you taking the time to write a lovely 5* review. We are thrilled to hear how much you enjoyed your time in the Yorkshire Dales with us and hope you made memories that will last forever. We look forward to welcoming you back soon. Many thanks, Lucy Best of Britain – Yorkshire Day Tours
What a lovely day with Chris, our driver! He was extremely knowledgeable about the area and patient with us when we took a bit of extra time for lunch and photos.
Thank you for the great 5* review of our Private Bronte Country and Yorkshire Dales Day Trip from York. We are thrilled to hear how much you enjoyed your day with Driver Tour Guide Chris. We hope to welcome you back very soon. Many thanks, Lucy Best of Britain – Yorkshire Day Tours
Charlotte Brontë has a special place in my heart. It was so special for me to visit her home. It really was like stepping into her life. On top of that, we visited the classic Yorkshire town of Grassington for a cuppa. Our guide, Chris, knew this area and was extremely informative and accommodating. Great day.
Thank you Krista for the lovely 5* review. We are thrilled to hear that we were able to create a special memory for you in Bronte Country and hope to welcome you back soon. Many thanks, Lucy Best of Britain – Day Tours of Yorkshire
I loved the little farms separated by hedges and typical scenes out of storybooks, sheep...even experienced the Yorkshire traffic jam of sheep. Wonderful host and a great tour for mobility reduced people. They need a portable step for the van though. That first step up makes it very hard for short or people with mobility issues to get into the van. Easy pick up spot in the city and good long tour. At the end of the day I felt like I had seen it all. Such a knowledgeable and experienced guide, sadly I don't remember his name...unless it was Bob himself. Lots of good stops and good long bathroom breaks so we never felt rushed
Thank you so much for your wonderful 5* review! We’re delighted you enjoyed your Yorkshire Dales day trip from York – those dry stone walls, rolling hills and sheep-filled “traffic jams” really do feel like something straight out of a storybook, just as James Herriot described. It’s fantastic to hear you felt well looked after throughout the day, with plenty of stops, a relaxed pace and a knowledgeable guide to bring everything to life. That’s exactly what we aim for on all of our small-group Yorkshire day tours from York. We also really appreciate your helpful feedback regarding the step into the vehicle. Since your visit, we’ve upgraded our minicoach to allow easier access for guests, including those with reduced mobility. Guest comfort is incredibly important to us, so thank you for highlighting this. Thanks again for choosing Best of Britain – Yorkshire Day Tours and for taking the time to share such a thoughtful review. We hope to welcome you back to explore even more of Yorkshire in the future! Best wishes, Lucy Best of Britain – Yorkshire Day Tours
Let me preface this by saying I love Viator and have had many wonderful experiences with them. This time we Toured the parsonage at Haworth and explored the Yorkshire dales. This has been a lifelong dream to visit the home of the Brontes and see the moors. It was a beautiful day. Unfortunately, the regular driver had a medical emergency and we had a substitute driver. He was lovely but didn't know much about the Brontes. Still a great day but I feel I would've learned more with the regular driver so that was a bit of a disappointment for an expensive private tour. I understand emergencies can't be helped but perhaps a backup who is more familiar with the tour or a price cut? Nevertheless, it was wonderful to see Haworth.
Howard was our guide. He was awesome and the best. Funny, kind, informative, and he made the trip wonderful. We loved his sense of humor and he was so knowledgeable of the area. This was an amazing day. Highly recommended!
Now utterly understandable why Yorkshire is called "God's own country". Fabolous tour brilliantly explained. Punctual, excellent & considerate driving. Mark is a top class guide, and the service from the beginning with BOBH great. Thank you BOBH folks for making 2 of my 5 day holiday so very good. (But be warned: you are encouraged to eat ice cream...). Every detail that I could have asked for in a day out was 5*. I suggest you book any of their tours well in advance.
Thank you for the brilliant 5* review. We are delighted to hear how much you enjoyed your two days with us whilst visiting Yorkshire. We really hope to see you again soon! Lucy BOBH – Day Tours of Yorkshire
A wonderful day out to Haworth Parsonage, returning via beautiful Bolton Abbey. Our driver Howard was punctual, charming, knowledgeable and clearly enjoyed showing off this beautiful part of the world. Would book for similar without hesitation.

I was the only person who had booked this day trip because of going at the very end of November ie right at the end of the season. Mark, the guide and driver was excellent: very knowledgeable and concerned about my comfort. I would recommend this trip to anyone wanting to go to Haworth and beyond from York.
Thanks for the great review Bik and really pleased to hear that you enjoyed your tour with us - we hope to see you again sometime!
