Simon was a great host! He gave us a great history lesson on Bratislava and then took us for a fantastic food tour through Old Town. Food was first rate and plentiful, we couldn’t finish everything. Hint: only order the small beer so you have room for food!
What a wonderful introduction to the beautiful city of Bratislava, helping us understand the geography as well as the culinary delights. The variety of food was both plentiful, varied and of excellent quality, so much so that we returned to the restaurants to sample more of their options. We particularly loved the farewell goodie bag and proudly have the cute fridge magnets displayed. A 5* experience with wonderful memories.
Excellent, knowledgeable guide. Great variety of food in interesting locations. A lot of fun. A definite yes!
Simon was absolutely fantastic. Learned a lot about Slovakia and enjoyed the food. Really great experience.
We cannot fault Simon our tour guide who met us outside parliament at the globe fountain; he was fun, informative and great to be around - the food tour was interesting, featuring what locals eat more than specific specialty restaurants. The reason for low star score is the value. Over $600 USD for 4 people is overpriced for what you get - I could live with $90 or $100 but it’s just not good value at $150 each. This is not the tour guides fault, he was great. I understand it is about the time spent with the tour guide which adds value, but the food (plenty to eat) just doesn’t add up at $600 for 4. We visited a pancake cafe, a supermarket, then an old monastery for local soup, then on to duck, Slovak pastas and always a drink; beer, wine, juice, water and finished up with coffee (they should skip this last stop and do ice cream instead). Too hot outside for drinking coffee!! I suggest they change the start time from 1pm to 12 too. I’m glad we did this and our friends are too - but they shouldn’t be charging $600 for it. Well done Simon, lovely young man, very informative- he did great.
Thank you very much for your detailed and honest feedback. We are truly delighted to hear that you enjoyed the tour and especially Simon’s company, knowledge and guiding style. We will definitely pass your lovely words on to him. We completely understand your comments regarding the price, and honestly, we would absolutely love to be able to offer the tour at a lower rate. Unfortunately, bookings made through Viator include a commission of approximately 25–35%, and the price also covers a private professional guide for several hours, planning and organisation, food and drinks at multiple stops and the gift bag with local goodies that guests receive at the end. For this reason, the full amount paid does not represent the value of the food alone. We are sorry that the price did not feel like the right value for you, but we are very happy to hear that there was plenty to eat and that you and your friends enjoyed the experience overall. Thank you also for your helpful suggestions. You visited us on one of the hottest days of the year, so we completely understand that a coffee stop may not have felt ideal in the heat. At the same time, finishing a good meal with a cup of coffee — hot or cold — is very much part of our local culture, which is why we include it in the experience. That said, your idea about offering ice cream during hot weather is a lovely one, and we will certainly take it into consideration. Thank you again for joining us and for your kind words about Simon. They cancelled the night before because they did not have enough people. That left me no time to make alternate arrangements. Would give it zero stars if I could. Ended up walking around Bratislava.
Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry that we were unable to welcome you on the tour. As stated in our booking conditions, the minimum number of participants for this tour is two people. Since you were the only guest booked, we first contacted you three days before the tour to let you know that the minimum had not yet been reached and to see whether joining another tour date would be possible. Unfortunately, that alternative date did not work for you. We then contacted you again at 8:07 a.m. two days before the tour and explained that if no second participant joined, we would have to cancel the tour. When no additional bookings came in, we cancelled the tour at 6:00 p.m. on the day before the tour and immediately processed a full refund. We completely understand your disappointment. However, the cancellation was not unexpected, as we communicated the situation several times in advance and did our best to find an alternative solution before cancelling. We appreciate your understanding and wish you all the best in your future travels.
We had an enjoyable afternoon with our guide and the other family on our tour. Unfortunately the value just wasn’t there. At the restaurant we went for our “main courses” my husband and I did not taste the duck. It was gone when the plate got to us. There was no offer to order more. For dessert we went to a coffee shop that served pastry they purchase from a vendor. It was not baked on their premises. The next day we went to a bakery that offered similar menu of drinks and we had the same pastry that we saw them rolling, filling and baking. Seemed much more authentic. Our guide Jakub was young and nice. Perhaps a bit more training on portions would help.
Thank you for your feedback and for joining our tour. We are pleased to hear that you enjoyed your afternoon with Jakub and the other family on the tour. We are sorry that the food portions at one of our stops did not meet your expectations. After reviewing the tour, we agree that more food should have been ordered at that particular stop. We take pride in offering generous portions that reflect traditional Slovak hospitality, and this is not the standard experience we aim to provide. We consider this an exceptional oversight and have since discussed it internally to help ensure that future groups receive the appropriate quantity of food. Regarding the pastry stop, our intention was not to demonstrate the baking process itself, but rather to introduce one of Bratislava's most traditional pastries. The Bratislava roll is a product with protected geographical status recognized by the European Union, and we are proud to include it on our tour. While the venue does not bake the pastries on-site, it serves authentic Bratislava rolls together with specialty coffee, which is why we chose it as part of the Bratislava Foodie Tour experience. Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We appreciate all comments and continuously use them to improve our tours.
Not so much different food and not enough to make us satisfied
Thank you for your feedback. We have also carefully reviewed the comments regarding this tour shared by your travelling companion, and we appreciate both of you taking the time to provide detailed feedback. We are sorry to hear that the tour did not fully meet your expectations. After reviewing your comments, we agree that the amount of food served at one of our stops should have been greater. We take pride in offering generous portions that reflect Slovak hospitality, and we consider this an exceptional oversight rather than the standard experience we aim to provide. Our goal is to introduce guests to a variety of traditional Slovak flavours, local specialties, and the stories behind them. While we understand that every traveller has different expectations regarding both variety and portion sizes, we appreciate your feedback and will use it to further improve the experience for future guests. Thank you for joining us and for taking the time to share your thoughts.
Great experience. It was so nice to visit local eateries, learn about the food and much of the history of Bratislava. Best was the tour guide!
We really enjoyed the Foodie Tour, Teresa was a fantastic guide who made it fun and informative, and the food itself was excellent.
